What Freemasons Do

In order for the public to be made more aware of Freemasonry, its charities, its history and to dispel the nega tive concept and ig norance of the Craft, the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania has produced a slide and video program . T he prog ram is in tended to be used in no nMasonic groups such as chu rch groups, firemen's service clubs, women's clubs, and soon w ill be available to the Pennsylvania Lodges. The program is about ten minutes in leng th and is available on video cassette, 35 mm one projector carousel and 35 mm two projector carousels. Also, a large portable display (see photo) is ava ilable for use in malls, fairs and o ther public places ent.itled "Who Are The Freemasons?," together with photogr a ph s and titles dep ictin g P ennsylvania Masonic charities. The portable display unit is easily packed into several conta iners tha t may be shipped throughout the state. Arrangements for the use and showing of bo th the slide program and the portable display may be made by contacti ng the Office of the Grand Mas ter.

Sco ttdale, Pennsylvania electrocuted himself w hile using a power drill on his daughter's patio. Bro. Maholtz cried out and fell unconscious. Bro. Pollock ran over and attempted to dislodge the power tool fro m Bro. Maho ltz's fist with a board. The dri ll would no t move, so he ran into the apartment to unp lug it. After calling 911 , Bro. Pollock return ed to Bro. Maholtz who was bl ue, had no pulse and had stopped breathing. He ad ministered CPR and succeeded in restoring Bro. Maholtz's pulse and breathing. Emergency help arrived and Look Bro. Ma holtz to the hospital where he recovered fully. Bro. Pollock states tha t he su·ong ly feels that employers sho uld teach CPR to th eir employees. Further, he feels that CPR can be used in the workplace as well as at home LO save the life of a co-worker, fa mil y m ember or friend. In this instance, the life of a Brother o f the Mystic T ie has been saved.

On January 2, 1889, non-Masonic ceremonies were held to commemorate the completion of the interior decoration of Egyptian H all of the Masonic Temple in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From the dedication of the Temple in 1873, the building remained undecorated until 1887 when the An Association was charged with the embellishment of the various halls with paintings and sta tuary. Egyptian Hall was the first room designated for decoration . The funds for this project were first sought from the members of the Association, as well as other interested parties. H owever, the entire cost of the decorative work in Egyptian Hall was $4200, and was underwritten by Bro. William]. Kelly, Grand Master from 1897 until l898, and member of Washington Lodge No. 59. Bro. Kelly meant for this work to stand as a memorial to his friend, COill i llllPd 011 page JJ
