Bro. Carl W. Stenberg, Jr. of Pi ttsburgh, a retired vice president of Mellon Bank, has been installed as the 98th Right Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania and Masonic Jurisd iction Thereunto Belonging. Bro. .Stenberg was elected to Freemasomy's highest office at the Quarterly Communication of the Grand Lodge held in Philadelphia on December 4. He was installed as the top leader of the more than 200 thousand Masons in the state at the Annual Grand Communication held in Pittsburgh on December 27. The ancient cere mony used to mark the b eginning of the Grand Master's term, when the full authority and responsibility for the conduct of the fraternity is placed in his care, was conducted at noon on the 27th in Gothic Hall at the Masonic Temple in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. The new Grand Master succeeds Bro. William A. Carpe nte r o f Upla nd, who
served as Grand Master during 1984 and 1985. Also installed were Bro. AJ.thur). Kurtz of Harrisburg as the R W. Deputy Grand Master; Bro. W. Scott Sto ner of Lancaster as R.W. Senior Grand Warden, and Bro. Edward H. Fowler, Jr. of Belle Vernon, near Pittsburgh, as R. W. J unior Grand Warden. Bro. Arthur R. Diamo nd of Jenkintown was reelected the R. W. Grand Treasurer and Bro. Thomas W. Jackson of Audubon was reelected as R.W. Grand Secretaty. A Past Master of Whitehall Lodge No. 794, Pleasant Hills, Allegheny Co ul).ty, and a forme r District De puty Grand Maste r for the 57th Masonic District, Bro. Stenberg was elected to the Grand Lodge line as R.W. Junior Grand Warden in December of 1980. He served as the R. W. Senior Grand Warden in 1982 and 1983 and as R. W. Deputy Grand Maste r in 1984 and 1985. Continued to p age 15.

The Grand Lodge will establish an endowment or trust fund, the income to be used to underwrite the costs of specific programs di rected toward research and the education of qualified pe rsons in the field of substance abuse prevention.
