Heinz Wendt, the imm ediate Past Master of Humbolt Lodge, No . 359, Philadelphia, immigrated from Berlin , Germany, with his famil y in 1955 and sett led in Philadelphia. He was made a Mason in Me lita Lodge, No. 295 , Philadelphia, in 1965 and served as Wors hi pful Master in 1971. Always anxious to be a Mem ber of a German speaking Lodge, he transferred to Humboldt Lodge in 1974 where h e continued his dedication to the Craft by working his way through the chairs again. The few German speaking Lodges in Pennsylvania are permitted to confer the Symbolic Degrees in German and Bro. Wendt does excellent work. The Grand Lodge Committee on Youth Services is pleased to announce that the maximum amo unt of Higher Education Loans for qualified students h as been increased from $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 per year. In accordance with the requirements and procedure for making application as spelled out in the November 1978 edition of "The Pennsylvania Freemason," applicants mus t be sponsored by a Pennsylvania Symbolic Lodge , mus t ha ve com pleted the first year of an accredited coll ege or uni versi ty w ith satisfactory grades and be registered for the second , th ird or fo urth year. Students in the first year of graduate work and the first year of study in law or medicine are also eligible .
Arrangements are well under way for the 20oth Anni versary celebration of Bristol Lodge, No. 25, held at Bristol, Bucks County, north of Philadelphia. Th e date is Saturday afternoon and evening, March 29, 1980. Th e R. W. Grand Master , accompa nied by many of his Grand Lod ge Officers, w ill make an Informal Vis itation to Bristol Lodge to help celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Lodge No. 9, held at Tacony, Philadelp hia, is in the process of planning for its 200th An n iversary to be hel d late r this year. The Grand Lodge Officers were pleased to attend the 200th Anniversary celebrations of Perseverance Lodge, No. 21, Harrisburg, and Lodge No. 22, Sunbury, h eld the latter part of 1979.

Add Another Centenarian A recent addition to our ever increasing list of centenarians is Bro. Charles M. Keagle, a Member of Corinthian Lodge , No. 573 , Millvale, Alleghen y County. Bro. Keagle celebrated h is 100th birthday on October 23, 1979. He was m ade a Maso n on May 16, 1919 and was associated with the old Pennsylvania Railroad for man y years.

Bro. Joseph E. Trate Installed Grand Master Bro. Joseph E. Trate, a retired executi ve engineer of The Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania, has been installed as the Right Worshipful Grand Maste r of Masons in Pennsylvania. He has succeeded Bro. Walter P. Wells of Coudersport in being elevated to the highest office in Freemasonry in Pennsylvania. He now is the leader and overseer of approximately 222 ,000 Masons in the 586 Symbolic Lodges throughout the State. The ancie nt Masonic ceremony w h ich marked Bro . Trate's installation took place at the Annual Grand Communication of the Grand Lodge F. & A. M. of Pennsylvania held in the spacious and beautiful Corinthian Hall, Masonic Temple , Philadelphia, on December 27, 1979. Bro. Trate served as Worshipful Master of Lodge No. 3, held in Philadelphia, in 1960. He served as District Deputy Grand Master for Masonic District "C" from late 1962 through 1972. He was elected and installed to serve as R. W. Junior Grand Warden in 1974 and 1975; R. W. Senior Grand Warden in 1976 and 1977 , and served as R. W. De puty Grand Master in 1978 and 1979. Bro. Trate has served on the Grand, Lodge Comm ittee on Masonic Homes and the Grand Lod ge Committee on Finance since 1973. He has also served as an Adm inistrator of the Grand Lodge Pension Plans. He has been Chai rman of the Grand Lodge Committee on Youth Services since 1973 and is currently serving as Chairman of the Grand Lodge 1981 Committee for commem orating 250 years of Freemasonry in Pen nsylvania. In York Rite Masonry, Bro. T rate is a Member of Fort Washington Royal Arch Chapter, No . 220; Cryptic Council, No. 51, Royal and Select Masters; Mary Commandery, No. 36, Knigh ts Templar, and Girard Mark Lodge, No . 214. In Scottish Rite Masonry, Bro. Trate is a Member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Philadelphia and served as Sovereign Prince of the DeJoinville Council, Princes of Jerusalem in 1969 and 1970. He has also served as Master of Ceremonies of the Benja min Franklin Consistory. He was coroneted a Thirty-third Degree Mason by the Su preme Council, Ancient Accepted Scottish Ri te for the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of the United States. Bro. Trate is also a member of LuLu Shrine Temple , A.A.O.N.M.S ., the Masonic Veterans of Pennsylvania , the High Twelve Club, International, and Benjamin Franklin Chapter, No. 16, National Sojourners , all in the Philadelphia area. Bro. Joseph E. Trate Right Worshipful Grand Master in Dresher, Montgom ery County, a Philad elphia sub urban community. He attended the p ublic schools of Williams port and continued his education at the Univers ity of Pennsylvan ia and Drexel Uni vers ity, Philadelp hia, where h e graduated w ith a d egree in Electrical Engineering. A member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oreland, Pa., Bro. Trate has served as a member of the Church Counci l and the Finance Committee. He was Treasurer of the Church and has served as a Sunday School teacher over the years. He served in the United States Air Force fo r three years during World War II. Bro. Trate and his wife, the former Isabel M. McCabe of Windber, Pa., have fo ur daughters, Mrs . Louis Zandy, Sandra, Deborah and Karen Trate, and two grandchildren, Kimmie and Steve Zandy.
