the meeting. He was the Lodge's first elected Worshipful Master. Upon formation of the 56th Masonic District in 1932, Bro. Yeager was appointed District Deputy Grand Master, serving until 1942 when he was appointed to the Committee on Masonic Homes. On Dec. 27, 1943 Bro. Yeager was installed as R. W. Junior Grand Warden. He served as Grand Master of Masons in Pennsylvania in 1950 and 1951. Bro. Yeager has served Grand Lodge in many capacities, including Chairman of the Committee on Masonic Culture and the Children's Service Commi ttee. While Chairman of the Committee on Masonic Culture, "The Pennsylvania Freemason" was started, the pamphlets for Instruction of Candidates were completed and an organized Education program was initiated. In 1951, while Grand Master he presented a resolution at the Conference of Grand Masters that established the Committee on Information and Recognition. T hrough his interest in Masonic Education, he was active in the organization of the Northeast Conference on Masonic Education and Libraries. He continues to serve on the Editorial Advisory Committee of the Masonic Service Association. It would not be possible to list all the organizations of which he is a member and honors that Bro. Yeager has received in other Masonic Bodies. However, he is presently serving as Deputy for Pennsylvania for the Supreme Council of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.

Grand Secretary Retires After Long Service

Bro. W. Orville Kimmel, Grand Master, congratulates the first graduates of the Volunteers in Nursing and Health Programs at the Masonic Homes. The girls are all members of the Rainbow for Girls. Additional volunteers are needed at the Masonic Homes.

Rainbow Girls First to Graduate Six young ladies all Rainbow Girls - were the first graduates of the Volunteers in Nursing and Health Programs at the Masonic Homes at Elizabethtown . They are : Miss Terry Stabley, R. D. 2, Red Lion; Miss Debra Smith, RD. 2, Red Lion; Miss Cheryle Bahn, 301 Pinehurst Road, York; Miss Vickie Schultz , 303 Fishborn Street, Harrisburg; Miss Sherri Miller, 505 W inand Drive H arrisburg; and Miss Janet Teacher, 3801 Hillcrest Road, Harrisburg. The Annual Grand Communication of Grand Lodge - to install a new R. W. Grand Master of Masons in Pennsylvania - will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 27 in Masonic Temple, One North Broad Street, Philadelphia. The session is open to all Master Masons. You do not have to be a Lodge Officer or a Past Master to attend . Luncheon will be served to all those attending at 1:30 p.m. in the Temple.

32 Years of Dedication

Bro. Yeager Retires Due to Health Bro. W illiam E. Yeager, R. W. Past Grand Master, has retired from the Committee on Masonic Homes after 32 years of dedicated service. In submitting his resignation to the Grand Master effective Sept. 15, Bro. Yeager wrote : "Due to the condition of my health . after 32 years of service, I must retire. "My Masonic service has been most rewarding and the value of the friendships resulting from the service and associations in Masonry is inestimable. "As stated in a Masonic Degree. ' Life without friends is useless' and based on that premise my life has been richly endowed. "Masonry has done far more for me than I could ever do for it. It is my hope

that I may have made some p0sitive contribution as a token payment on my debt to the Fraternity, which I acknowledge but which I realize I can never repay. "It is my hope and prayer all of you may continue to get much joy and satisfaction out of your service to our Brethren in the sunset of their lives." Bro. Yeager was made a Mason in Hazle Lodge No. 327, Hazleton. in 1918. Having moved to Warren, Bro . Yeager was the guiding infl uence in the forming of Joseph Warren Lodge No. 726 in 1923. On October 6, 1973 Lodge No. 726 celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Bro. Yeager left his hospital bed to attend (Continued o n Page 8)

Bro. Ashby B. Paul, who has served Grand Lodge as R. W. Grand Secretary, from 1958, resigned on Sept. 5 because of health. In his resignation letter to the Grand Master, Bro. Paul said: "As you know, I was 77 on my last birthday, and my health is beginning to deteriorate, especially my eyes which are giving ine some trouble." Bro. Paul, born and educated in Philadelpha, moved to Harrisburg where he was employed as a professional engineer by the Bell Telephone Co. He was employed by Bell for 37 years, having served as Engineer of Buildings for many years. He was made a Mason in Perseverance Lodge No . 21 in Harrisburg on January 17, 1927 . He served the Lodge as Worshipful Master in 1940 and as a Trustee for many years. He served as a director of the Harrisburg Masonic Temple Association and chairman of the Executive Committee. Bro. Paul served as District Deputy Grand Master for five years. At the September Quarterly, the Grand Master announced that in accordance with a change in the Ahiman Rezon, he has created Bro. Paul a Past District Deputy Grand Master. He is a veteran of World War T. W hen war was declared, he volunteered and was sent to the first Officers Training Camp at Fort Niagara. Shortly thereafter , he went overseas with the 23rd Engineers. Following the Armistice he remained to help rebuild the French roads. Bro. Paul is a member of many other Masonic Bodies, including the Scottish Rite in the Valley of Harrisburg where he served as Commander-in-Chief from 1949 to 1952. He was coroneted an honorary 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in 1946 .
