New Board Chairman Appointed at Patton; Lodge Representatives Urged to Get Involved Bro. Frank W. Bobb, librarian of the

Historical Society of Pennsylvania, was appointed Librarian and Curator for the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, effective December 27, by Bro. John K. Young, when R. W. Grand Master. Bro. Bobb is Past Master of George W. Kendrick, Jr. Lodge, No. 690, Philadelphia. He also served for two years as a member of the Grand Lodge Committee on Masonic Culture. He succeeds Bro. William A. Carpenter who was appointed Bro. Frank Bobb Secretary to the Grand Lodge Committee on Masonic Culture by Bro. John L. McCain, R. W . Junior Grand Warden and Chairman of the Committee. Bro. Bobb has had varied experience in the library, archival and records management fields. He joined the staff of the Historical Society in 1927 as l.ibrary assist a nt. In World War II, h e served as an officer with t he United States Army on detail to the Office of Strategic Services. After the Korean W ar, he served as senior r ecords a n alyst in the Department of R ecord s, City of Philadelphia . He returned to the Historical Society in 1961. He has written p a p ers on records management, library syste m s and control, microphotographic techniques and devices, and other allied subjects. Bro. Bobb is married and serves as Vestryman and T r easurer of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Fra ncisville, Philad elphia.

ro. Hiram P. Ball Is Installed as A Final Reminder .. Grand Master of Ma sons in Pa. March 15 Closing Date for Current 'Guest Fund' Appeal

Bro. Hiram P. Ball, a Pittsburgh industrialist, was installed as R. W. Grand Master of Masons in Pennsyl~ania on December 27, 1969. The ancient installation ceremony was held at the Annual Grand Communication of the Grand Lodge of Free a nd Accepted Masons of Pennsy lvania in Syria Mosque, 4423 Bigelow Boulevard, Pittsburgh. This marked the first time in the history of Freem asonry that the installation ceremony was h eld in Pittsburgh. It is norma lly held in Masonic T e mple, Philad elphia, the h eadquarters of Grand Lodge. As Grand Master of M asons in Pennsylvania, Bro. Ball will head approximately 250,000 Masons in 610 M asonic Lodges throughout Pennsylvania. H e succeeded Bro. John K . Young, a Philadelphia attorney. Bro. Ball is a Past Master of H armony Lodge, No. 429, F. & A. M., Zelienople, . a former Member of Corint hian Lodge, No. 573, Millvale, and was Warrant Mast er of Col. H enry Bouquet Lodge, No. 787, P ittsburgh. He served as District Deputy Gra nd M aster of the 48th Masonic District from 1961 until elevated to Junior Gra nd War den of the Grand Lodge on D ecember 27, 1963. He h as been a me mber of the Grand Lodge Committee on Fina nce since 1958 a nd served a s vice chairman for eight years. He also served six years as a Trustee of the Thomas R a nken Patton Masonic Institution for Boys. In York Rite M asonry, Bro. Ball is a member of Zerubbabel Royal Arch Cha p ter, No. 162 ; Mt. Moriah Council, No. 2; Pittsburgh Commandry, No. 1; and Knights of the R ed Cross of Const antine, all of Pittsburgh. In Scottish Rite M asonry, Bro. Ball is a member of the Scottish Rite

March 15 is the closing date for the 1969 Guest Fund collection for the Masonic Homes at Elizabethtown. E very possible effort is being made to reach $500,000 - a fund equal to an average of $2.00 per Member. The Grand Master reported that the Brethren h ave been very generous in their con tributions to the 1969 collection. He said that many h ave increased contributions over prev ious years. It will take additional contributions of approximately $30,000 before March 15 if the goal is to be reached. Contributions to the current Guest Fund should b e m ade p ayable to the Guest Fund; mailed to the Executive Director, Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown, Pa. 17022, and a re tax exempt.

Bro. Hiram P. Ball Right Worshipful Grand Master Bodies in the V alley of Pittsburgh and Valley of New Castle. For his years of M asonic work he was coroneted a n Honorary Thirtythird Degree Scottish Rite M ason in 1964. In the Ancient Arabic Or d er Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Bro. Ball ser ved as Illustrious Potentate of Syria Temple, Pittsburgh, in 1957. He also is a member of Cou rt No. 2, Royal Order of J esters. His other M asonic organizations in-

elude Isla m Grotto, Pittsburgh, and Forest No. 138, T all Cedars of Lebanon, Pittsburgh. Bro. Ball graduated from Fra nklin a nd M a rsh all College, L a ncaster, Pa., atte nded H arvard Gradua t e School of Business Administration, and received a n Honorary Degree of Doctor of L aws from Thiel College. In 1952 he was elect ed a trustee of Fra nklin and M a rshall College and continues to serve. In business, Bro. Ball is president and chairman of the boa rd of Ball Chemical Company; secretary a nd director of The Cleanola Company; secreta ry a nd director of Pittsburgh Insula ting Company; preside nt and director of B.B.I., Inc.; and a partner of Ball Associates. Bro. and Mrs. Ball, the former F lorence H. Campbell of Indianapolis, Ind., have three child r en : Bro. Hira m P., Jr., V ictor ia I. a nd Susan C.
