Every great innovation has the ability to improve. The Honda Prelude first arrived in 1978—our answer to a calling that all great cars should also move the driver emotionally. As a front-wheel-drive coupe with sporty, upscale dynamics, it redefined what a sports car could be for everyday roads. The vehicle favored feel over flash, but more importantly, perfectly embodied the joy of driving, a core Honda philosophy encompassing the connection between driver and car.

Joy is more than just an emotion—it’s an engineering target. One that Honda engineers kept top of mind when designing the all-new 2026 Prelude. By innovating a two-motor hybrid system paired with flowing, aerodynamic proportions and a wide stance with a low center of gravity, the vehicle has been fine-tuned for not just efficiency, but also performance—so much so that the driving experience has been likened to a glider soaring through the sky: graceful, fluid, and, above all, exhilarating.

Of all its new technologies, none better captures the spirit of the Prelude than Honda S+ Shift, which enhances how the vehicle drives by augmenting three of its drive modes. With a simple button push, S+ Shift maximizes the synchronization between driver input and vehicle response for a truly intuitive driving experience felt through the senses. This is more than mechanical excellence; it’s the next step in mechanical connection, where engineering meets instinct.

Building upon our legacy of innovation, everything built into the new Prelude was done so with intention: the smooth silhouette, the stable suspension, the special height-to-width ratio. Each feature we designed was done to elicit a feeling—a feeling we refer to as the “joy of driving,” the philosophy that feeds our most ambitious and innovative desires. Because at the end of the day, we only create what we believe drivers deserve. And that’s exactly what the Prelude was built for: an experience that stirs the soul.

The comeback tour for Marcus Ericsson starts with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

“It’s a bounce-back year for me,” said Ericsson, 35. “I’ve really been working hard in the off-season to come back strong this year and show what I can do for myself, for everyone.”

Ericsson, the 2022 Indianapolis 500 champion, owns the struggles since taking over the No. 28 Andretti Global Honda two years ago. An offseason of self-reflection and intense training, though, have him poised to return to the fight at the front of the grid in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, beginning with the season-opening round on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn temporary street circuit. Uniquely, it is also the site of his last victory, which came in 2023 while driving for Chip Ganassi Racing.

“I’ve always been good at that track,” said Ericsson, who finished sixth in last year’s race in St. Petersburg. “I won there a couple years ago, had a couple of top seven finishes there the last few years as well, so it seems to be a track that suits me.

“Street courses in general are something that I really like that challenge when there’s no margin for error and the walls are close and that type of racing is something I really enjoy, and that’s definitely the case in St. Pete.

“I don’t know, it’s just something about St. Pete. The atmosphere there is always great with so many fans and the start of the season. There’s something that’s in the air being there, and I really enjoy that.”

When the green flag waves on the 2026 season, the Swede will have familiar company in teammate Kyle Kirkwood. However, there is also a new one in Will

Power, who made the switch after 17 years with Team Penske to take over the Honda-powered No. 26 entry from Formula 2-bound Colton Herta.

In addition to leaning on Power, a two-time series champion and 2018 Indy 500 winner, Ericsson will also be able to rely on the wisdom of Ron Ruzewski, the former IndyCar Managing Director of Team Penske that now serves as Team Principal for Andretti Global.

“Super excited about that,” said Ericsson, who has finished a career-best sixth in the championship three times (2021-23).

“Excited to work with Will and Ron. They have already contributed a lot to this team. Will is a legend of the sport, so to be able to work close with him is going to be a lot of fun.

“With Kyle, we have an extremely strong driver lineup there. Eager to get going.”

While all of the personnel changes undoubtedly bolster Andretti Global, there has still been plenty for Ericsson to finetune within himself.

“You need to try different things,” Ericsson said. “I wish I could have tested an Indy car every week for the off-season and work on different things, but you can’t do that. That’s not the reality. You need to think outside the box.”

“One of the things I wanted to do this off-season was to challenge myself, go outside my comfort zone”

Ericsson did, however, compete in multiple endurance races over the off-season. He teamed with brother, Hampus, for a 12-hour contest at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia at the end of 2025. Then, he started this year by driving in the Grand Touring Daytona class for Wayne Taylor Racing in IMSA’s 24-hour endurance classic at Daytona International Speedway.

“One of the things I wanted to do this off-season was to challenge myself, go outside my comfort zone,” Ericsson said. “That’s why I did a couple races in GT3 because I’ve never driven GT cars in my life. That’s been really interesting, and I think it’s been a great thing to learn things about myself and as a racing driver how I adapt to different situations.

“I’ve been training really well and focused a lot on the mental side. I talked about that before, how much I work on

that. We have some new things there on the mental strength and mental coaching that I’ve been working on a bit of a different technique.

“Looking forward to seeing how that’s going to play out. Yeah, a bunch of things.”

A deep dive into mental training is nothing new for Ericsson. In fact, he’s been among the few to constantly stress the importance of it since coming to INDYCAR in 2019 following five years in Formula One.

“Yeah, I’ve talked about that a lot throughout the years, the mental side of things,” he said. “It’s still underestimated the importance of mental training and mental strength, and it’s something I’ve worked with throughout my career.”

A new approach to mental training was needed, too, as Ericsson was also blunt in his assessment of last year’s struggles that saw him collect just one top five and two top 10s en route to a career-worst 20th in the overall standings.

“When you have a tough season like I had last year, it’s really even more important to focus on those things and really build yourself up and have a strong mental approach to things,” he said. “That’s where I can learn a lot from last year, how I sort of got into a bit of a negative spiral after the month of May and I couldn’t really break out of that and that affected my results and my performances throughout the last part of the year.

“I’ve been analyzing that, learning from that, and have tools now to use how to not get there. It’s an interesting thing, and there’s still a lot you can learn from the mental side. Everyone is different there, as well. I’m lucky I have a very good coach in Sweden, Stig (Wiklund), that I work with, and we’ve had some really cool stuff that we’ve done that I think is going to really pay off this year.”

And Ericsson will be tested early, with St. Petersburg being the first of four races in March.

“Busy start to the year,” he said. “I love that. I think it’s going to be great but tough, as well.”

FIRESTONE: LEADING THE WAY ON THE STREETS OF THE SUNSHINE CITY

As the 2026 INDYCAR season roars to life on the streets of St. Petersburg, FL, Firestone once again takes center stage as entitlement sponsor of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Now in its 22nd running, the season-opening event in Florida’s “Sunshine City” continues a partnership that began in 2014 and extends through 2028, reflecting Firestone’s long-standing commitment to performance, innovation, and the future of open-wheel racing.

Throughout this racing season, Firestone Racing continues to celebrate the brand’s 125-year legacy, which began with the founding of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio, on August 3, 1900.

FIRESTONE RACING LEGACY

Following the debut of its all-rubber non-skid tire in 1908, Firestone quickly established itself on the track. In August 1909, Barney Oldfield won a 300-mile race at the newly opened Indianapolis Motor

The brand’s racing heritage was further solidified in 1911 with a victory in the inaugural Indianapolis 500®, with Ray Harroun piloting the Firestone-equipped Marmon Wasp. Firestone’s success at the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” continued in 2025 with its 76th Indianapolis 500® win, captured by Alex Palou in the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing car.

Today, Firestone proudly serves as the exclusive tire supplier for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and has done so for more than a quarter century.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES & INDY NXT BY FIRESTONE

The Firestone Race Tire Engineering (RTE) team, along with nearly 60 expert tire builders, will design, develop, and deliver approximately 37,000 Firehawk race tires for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and its INDY NXT by Firestone development series for the 2026 season.

More than 32,000 race tires will be provided to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, spanning 60 different specifications to meet the diverse demands of oval, road, and street course configurations across the schedule.

Firestone’s involvement in INDYCAR’s premier driver development series dates back to the early 1990s with the brand rejoining the series in 2023 as presenting sponsor and exclusive tire supplier of INDY NXT by Firestone after an almost decade long hiatus. In 2026, more than 5,000 tires across 18 specifications will support the next generation of drivers, providing critical development experience on a competitive platform closely aligned with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

DRIVING INNOVATION WITH ENLITEN™

Beginning at this year’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Firestone Firehawk race tires will feature an ENLITEN™ symbol on the sidewall, signifying the integration of Bridgestone global ENLITEN Technology.

ENLITEN is a next-generation technology designed to deliver customized and uncompromised tire performance while promoting a focus on enhanced sustainability for tires in Bridgestone and its Firestone brand portfolio. This includes consumer products, such as the new Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 V2, as well as commercial, agricultural and race tires. Motorsport continues to serve as a critical proving ground for advanced materials and technologies that can influence future tire development beyond the racetrack.

Veterans Florida’s mission is to provide career, SkillBridge, and entrepreneurship services to help veterans and separating servicemembers find meaningful employment and transition to civilian life.

We recognize veterans possess a unique skill set and will achieve their personal and professional goals when taking advantage of our tools and resources at no cost.

CAREERS SKILLBRIDGE

Firestone Firehawk primary and alternate street and road course race tires will incorporate key components of Bridgestone’s ENLITEN Technology, including renewable soybean oil to replace petroleum-based oils traditionally used in tire compounds, as well as recycled bead wire and recycled carbon black. Together, these materials underscore an approach focused on lower CO₂ emissions, improved resource efficiency and increased material circularity, while delivering the extreme performance demanded by North America’s premier open-wheel racing series. Efforts are also ongoing to advance end-of-life recycling initiatives for race tires used throughout the season.

DRIVING INNOVATION FROM CIRCUIT TO STREET

Firestone Firehawk race tires will feature an ENLITEN symbol on the sidewall and are produced at the Bridgestone Advanced Tire Production Center (ATPC) in Akron, Ohio. Opened in 2022, the ATPC marked the start of a new chapter for Firestone’s rich history in the community where it was founded 125 years ago.

The Firestone RTE team collaborates closely with fellow tire engineers and innovation colleagues at the nearby Bridgestone Americas Technology Center, where insights gained on track help enhance product development across the Bridgestone and Firestone tire portfolio for the road.

FIRESTONE FAN EXPERIENCE

Fans attending the 22nd edition of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg are invited to visit the Firestone Fan Experience, an interactive fan zone offering hands-on activities designed to engage fans of all ages. Located in Albert Whitted Park just south of Horse Soldier bridge near Turn 11, the Firestone Fan Experience features racing simulators, a Firestone showcar, Firestone branded giveaways, and a chance to win a set of Firestone tires.

PICK A WINNER IN USF2000

A NEW SEASON OF USF2000 PRESENTED BY CONTINENTAL TIRE KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND ON THE UNFORGIVING STREETS OF ST. PETERSBURG.

As has become traditional, two 20-lap races will make up the event, with the second leg of the Foundation Building Materials/Andersen Interior Contracting Grand Prix representing a milestone 250th race since the series was reinstated in 2010 following a three-year hiatus.

USF2000 is the middle step on the USF Pro Championships ladder. It stands between USF Juniors, which was introduced in 2022 as the entry point to the professional ranks of auto racing, and USF Pro 2000, the final stepping stone to INDY NXT and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. USF Pro Championships is unique in the world of auto racing in providing scholarships for its championship-winning drivers to graduate onto the next level.

With the top four contenders from 2025, including series champion Jack Jeffers, all graduating to USF Pro 2000 this season and several other leading contenders also moving on to new pastures, the door has

been left wide open for someone to step up and claim a top prize of $409,816 to grease the path toward USF Pro 2000 in 2027.

Nevertheless, defending champion team Exclusive Autosport boasts an extremely strong roster which includes Evan Cooley, from Mokena, Ill., who placed fifth in 2025 and was fastest in the USF Fall Combine post-season test at Indianapolis, and Canadian Anthony Martella, who finished seventh last year after scoring a dominant victory at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park with JHDD.

Sebastian Garzon and Eddie Beswick also will be back after placing among the top 10 in 2025. Colombian Garzon, 16, who impressed last year in St. Petersburg with a fourth-place finish in Race Two, returns with DEForce Racing and claimed early bragging rights by posting the fastest time among those who attended the recent Spring Training preseason test at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Garzon, incidentally, is coached by 2023 USF2000

champion Simon Sikes. Beswick, meanwhile, a former Formula Ford champion in his native Australia, has joined Pabst Racing which seeks to bounce back from a relatively disappointing season after winning the championship in both 2023 and 2024.

Other likely contenders will include the top three USF Juniors protagonists from last year, Leonardo Escorpioni, Liam Loiacono and Joao Vergara.

Escorpioni, a Florida-based Brazilian, was a clear championship winner with six wins to his name. He graduates to the next level in partnership once again with Zanella Racing, which will make its bow at this level. Australian Loiacono makes the step with Jay Howard’s team, which proudly boasts a fresh alignment with NTT INDYCAR SERIES team Ed Carpenter Racing, while Vergara, another Florida-based Brazilian, graduates with VRD Racing, which won the USF2000 Teams Championship in 2025.

A strong entry of 23 cars also includes the top three FRP F1600 Championship Series contenders from last year: brothers Gabriel and Ayrton Cahan, from Santa Fe, N.M., who make their debut with Exclusive Autosport, and Wesley Gundler with the new ENVE Motorsports team.

Sebastian Garzon enters the new season with high expectations.
Leonardo Escorpioni was a deserving USF Juniors champion in 2025.
Liam Loiacono is part of a four-car lineup for JHDD powered by ECR.
