June marks both National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month, a time to celebrate the many voices, experiences, and identities that make our communities strong. It is an opportunity to reflect on where we come from, honour those who came before us, and recognize the people who continue to shape the future through leadership, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
Across Turtle Island, Indigenous entrepreneurs carry forward a long tradition of innovation, trade, artistry, and community building Every business launched and every idea shared contributes to a legacy that stretches back generations Entrepreneurship is not only about creating economic opportunity, it is also about preserving culture, supporting families, and creating pathways for future generations to thrive

Jennifer and Drew Tenasco, twin sisters from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg and 2024 Pow Wow Pitch Semi-Finalists, join us on the June episode of the Pow Wow Pitch Podcast to share how a simple idea grew into Tendesi Air Fresheners, a business now carried by retailers across multiple provinces.
Drawing on their backgrounds in art, retail, and the powwow trail, Jennifer and Drew reflect on the early stages of building their company and the lessons they've learned along the way. What began as a creative product idea evolved through careful planning, community connections, and a willingness to learn through experience They also discuss how their combined strengths helped shape the business, allowing each sister to contribute in ways that complemented the other's skills and vision
Throughout the conversation, they discuss the importance of thinking long-term, seeking honest feedback, and establishing clear roles as both siblings and business partners. They share how planning ahead helped them navigate growth opportunities while maintaining a sustainable pace that aligned with their goals and values. A member of Rainy River First Nation and Founder of FoodZen, Destiny has spent the past year expanding her business beyond food production into a multi-stream enterprise focused on education, community connection, and food sovereignty Through the opening of a production and teaching kitchen, FoodZen creates opportunities for people to gather through meals, workshops, and hands-on learning experiences
Reflecting on her Pow Wow Pitch experience, Destiny shares that the program provided more than exposure It introduced her to a community that continues to encourage her to think bigger, ask deeper questions, and pursue new opportunities. Today, she remains committed to growing FoodZen while helping create pathways for Indigenous entrepreneurs working within food systems

In May, Pow Wow Pitch continued to strengthen its network of partners, welcoming organizations that are creating new opportunities for Indigenous entrepreneurs through community connections, mentorship, funding, and business support. These partnerships reflect a shared commitment to expanding access to entrepreneurship and supporting Indigenous business growth across Turtle Island.
MINI TIPI renewed its partnership with Pow Wow Pitch, continuing its support of Indigenous entrepreneurs and helping amplify Indigenous-owned businesses through storytelling and community engagement.
Pow Wow Pitch also welcomed the Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) and Women in Business New Brunswick as partners for the upcoming Sitansisk Pow Wow Pitch, helping create opportunities for Indigenous entrepreneurs to connect, learn, and pitch their ideas in New Brunswick.
Pow Wow Pitch and Aritzia also announced the continuation of their partnership in 2026, expanding support for Indigenous women and two-spirit entrepreneurs through funding, mentorship, and visibility opportunities across industries.
