At the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities, we do our work as a response to God’s call to love one another and to put our faith into action. Over the past year, it was your kind acts and offerings that allowed us to carry out our mission and serve our community. Together, in 2019, our collective action positively transformed lives in the greater Pottstown area by providing Food Security, Housing Stability, and Supportive Services and Education to our neighbors in need.

We are excited to present several new initiatives in the 2019 Annual Report of Gratitude. Over the past year, it has been with your unwavering support and through collaboration with area organizations, we have been able to serve our community and strengthen what we already do to address the needs of our neighbors in ways not previously possible.
We firmly believe our community is strongest when the most vulnerable among us are treated with dignity in all circumstances. When we ensure individuals are fed, securely sheltered, and have access to educational resources; our community flourishes. Your partnership — encouraging positive change in the lives of others — is what we value most and for what we are most grateful. It is with a deep sense of gratitude we present this report as a public acknowledgment of your kindness, and in appreciation for your continued support for the work we do.

Developing partnerships to offer critical services and supports to increase food security and other indicators of household stability to help end hunger for good; Connecting low-income families and seniors to food pantries via computer; Providing community-based programing designed to help community members develop a better understanding of poverty; Delivering programming designed to provide individuals the education and foundational skills needed to serve as volunteer leaders with a nonprofit community; Coming together to support local under-resourced women, the largest demographic in Montgomery County, PA, living in poverty. Mission
Through interfaith cooperation, the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities provides tangible services, support, and spiritual guidance to address the basic needs of persons within and beyond the greater Pottstown area, coordinating our programs and referrals to help clients improve their overall stability.
Service
We serve individuals and families living in the greater Pottstown area primarily; we also serve residents across Montgomery County for housing stability services. 35 percent of clients are children under the age of 18, 59 percent are adults, and 6 percent are adults age 65 and older.
Focus
FOOD SECURITY — assuring access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets dietary needs and food preferences for an active, healthy life. HOUSING STABILITY — The Pottstown Cluster provides case management and support in finding safe, affordable, housing for individuals and families facing homelessness or possible eviction. SUPPORTIVE SERVICES and EDUCATION — provides referrals, education, and support to help individuals and families improve their overall stability.

14, 091 community plates were served though Community Meals and 592,007 pounds of food was dispersed locally though our public community food pantry and partner agencies in Montgomery County.
IMPACT

In 2019, the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities positively impacted the lives of 25,623 people and provided services to 1,542 unduplicated households.
Through our Eviction Prevention and Intervention Coalition (EPIC) pilot project designed to stabilize vulnerable families and individuals in Montgomery County who are facing eviction, we provided services to 237 households. 143 people completed our Bridges Out of Poverty workshop and 127 people graduated form our Understanding Poverty to Plan and Persevere (UP3) program; 100 percent of most recent graduates surveyed report experiencing a greater knowledge on how to improve their stability.

2019 UPDATES The Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities has formed a unique partnership with Philabundance and Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware County to offer critical services and supports to decrease the number of people facing hunger in the Delaware Valley. The three organizations collaborated through a series of pilot programs that paired food plus other critical life services to improve food security, household, and financial stability for its clients.
Programming offered a suite of services, including education, financial literacy, health services, housing and/or job assistance. The goal is to end the cycle of no-win decisions: Do I buy food or medicine? Heat or eat? Pay for lunch or a bus pass? The first pilot program began in February 2019, primarily providing food, financial literacy coaching and case management, to help approach other issues, including housing challenges.
Our financially empowered Almost Home graduates celebrated the completion of a successful financial empowerment course and are now on a path to creating a brighter financial future for themselves and their families.

2019 UPDATES To improve food pantry service, the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities has joined MontCo Anti-Hunger Network (MAHN), Manna on Main Street, and The Open Link to participate in a pilot food program that connects low-income people to food pantries via computer, a twist on online grocery ordering designed to serve low-income consumers. In all, around 130 Montgomery County households are using the service. The project was funded by The HealthSpark Foundation.
SmartChoice Online Food Pantry Low-income seniors living in Montgomery County are now being offered a SmartChoice Food Pantry online-ordering option. The pilot program is called “Extending the Food Security Safety Net�. Seniors face many challenges, physically as well as emotionally, and the hope is this option will make life a little easier for them, especially in the winter months. Approximately 30 of our clients utilize the program, 10 of whom work and cannot visit the Pantry during normal business hours to use the SmartChoice kiosk. Extending the option to low-income seniors was the natural progression of the program as it is a more flexible option accommodating people with different needs.

In August 2019, the first two groups of community members successfully completed our new UP3 Community Cohort Workshop. Participants spent six weeks developing a better understanding of poverty, bridging gaps, and building social connections. The UP3 Community Cohort Workshop is a free community-based workshop that was introduced in 2019 and designed to help individuals develop a better understanding of poverty, bridge gaps between people of different socioeconomic environments, and build relationships with one another in the community.
Volunteer Leadership Program (CVLP)Â The pilot Community Volunteer Leadership Program (CVLP), which kicked-off in July 2019, was designed to provide individuals the education and foundational skills needed to serve as volunteer leaders with a nonprofit community, such as serving on a board. This was a program of Leadership Tri-County, in collaboration with the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities, and funded by The HealthSpark Foundation. Leadership Tri-County, an organization that works to prepare community members for leadership positions in the tricounty area, selected the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities as a nonprofit participant and lead partner in this collaboration.

2019 UPDATES · On May 9, 2019, over 65 women gathered from all parts of the greater Pottstown area for an evening of fine wine, fellowship, and fundraising at the inaugural 'Wine'-Not: Women Helping Women event at the Stone Barn Cellars Winery. During the event, guests enjoyed wine tastings, a delectable dinner donated by local organizations and event committee members, and prizes such as must-have luxury women’s themed gift baskets. Event attendees came together to not only celebrate the women in their lives, but to also raise funds to support local under-resourced women. The need is great in Montgomery County, PA, as the largest demographic living in poverty is female 18-24, followed by female 25-34, and then female 35-44. In April 2019, the Pottstown Cluster served 257 families with women as “head of household.” Because of the women who joined us in our mission and supported the event, we were able to surpass our fundraising goal to provide local under-resourced women with food security, housing stability, and supportive services and education.

2019 UPDATES The Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities community came together on September 26, 2019, at The SunnyBrook Ballroom for the eighth year in a row — this year to “Celebrate Service with Heart” — for fellowship and fundraising, and to recognize its Caring Community Awardees. The event theme, “Celebrate Service with Heart,” was a call to action that brought together stakeholders from the greater Pottstown area and will directly impact 450 local families per month in need of Food Security, Housing Stability, and Supportive Services and Education. The 2019 Caring Community Awards honored four individuals who have made significant contributions towards improving Food Security, Housing Stability, and Supportive Services and Education within and beyond the greater Pottstown area. The 2019 Cluster Community Awards were presented to Valerie Arkoosh, MD, MPH, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners and Ken Lawrence, Jr., Vice Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. Additionally, the Helping Hands with Heart Awards were presented to PCRC Community Meals volunteer, Barbara Cooper and past PCRC Board Member; Community Meals; volunteer; and past fall fundraising event Chair, Dr. Myra Forrest. The awards were presented by the Pottstown Cluster's Executive Director Barbara Wilhelmy and Board President Mary Ann Glocker.
