Gatorland’s Gators, Ghosts & Goblins Returns with Cryptids, Costumes and Halloween Fun ORLANDO, Fla. — Gatorland is preparing to scare up another season of familyfriendly fun as its popular Gators, Ghosts & Goblins Halloween celebration returns for its eighth year this October. The daytime event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 10-11, 17-18 and 24-25, bringing three weekends of costumes, candy, live entertainment and unusual creatures to the “Alligator Capital of the World.” The Halloween festivities are included with regular park admission, giving families an opportunity to enjoy the seasonal activities while also exploring Gatorland’s wildlife attractions and shows. KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Silver Spurs Club Big Boss Henry Thacker is ready to take the reins as Boots, Bulls and Barrels charges into the Silver Spurs Arena on Saturday, Oct. 3, for a high-energy night celebrating Osceola County’s rodeo traditions. The one-night event begins at 7:30 p.m. and will feature cowboys and cowgirls competing for cash prizes in bull riding, ranch bronc riding and barrel racing. For Thacker, a seventh-generation Osceola County native, the event will be among the first major Silver Spurs productions held under his leadership as the club’s 2026–2027 Big Boss. “It is an incredible honor to serve as Big Boss of the Silver Spurs Club,” Thacker said. “This organization has meant so much to my family and to Osceola County for generations.” Thacker’s election continues a remarkable family legacy. He is the first Silver Spurs member whose mother and father, Clarence and Jo Thacker, both previously served as Big Boss. Toho Water Authority Encourages Residents to Prepare Water Supplies for Hurricane Season
KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Osceola History has welcomed Nick Mathes as its new OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Toho Water Authority is encouraging residents to prepare their households for potential water and wastewater service disruptions as hurricane season continues. Households should store enough drinking water for every person and pet for at least three days. Toho recommends setting aside one gallon of potable water per person per day in clean containers with secure lids. The water can be used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and washing dishes. Residents should also store non-potable water for bathing, cleaning and flushing toilets. Bathtubs, coolers, large containers and new or thoroughly cleaned trash cans can be filled with tap water before a storm arrives. Freezing some containers or food-storage bags filled with water can also help keep food cold if electricity is lost while providing an additional water supply as the ice melts. To reduce flooding and pressure on wastewater collection systems, residents are encouraged to turn off irrigation systems, limit water use and complete laundry, dishwashing and other cleaning before the storm. Stored water should not be discarded until flooding has receded and electrical service has been restored.

UCF Opens Season With Historic 73-6 Win; Former Kowboy Taevion Swint Scores First Touchdown as a Knight ORLANDO, Fla. — UCF celebrated the start of its 20th season at the Bounce House with a record-setting 73-6 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Thursday night, highlighted locally by former Osceola Kowboy Taevion Swint’s first touchdown as a Knight. The 67-point victory was the largest in UCF football history, surpassing the Knights’ 64-point win over Grand Valley State in 1987. UCF also matched its program record for points in a game, equaling the 73 scored against Austin Peay in 2017. The Knights controlled the game on the ground, rushing for 360 yards and producing seven touchdowns from six different players. Nine UCF players also recorded at least one reception during the victory. Junior running back Duke Watson needed only one carry to make his presence felt. On UCF’s second offensive play, Watson broke free for a 64-yard touchdown and the first score of the Knights’ season. The defense quickly added to the lead. Just 20 seconds later, Jayden Williams intercepted a Bethune-Cookman pass and returned it 47 yards for a touchdown, giving UCF a 14-0 advantage a little more than four minutes into the game.

Harmony’s Kane Dow Delivers Pick-Six in Longhorns’ Tough Road Battle Against Victory Christian Junior cornerback provides the play of the night for Harmony against Victory Christian Academy LAKELAND, Fla. — The final score may not have gone Harmony’s way Friday night, but junior Kane Dow gave the Longhorns and their fans a moment they won’t soon forget. With Harmony trailing the Victory Christian Academy Storm 27-0 with about eight minutes remaining in the game, Dow delivered the play of the night for the visiting Longhorns, reading the play, intercepting the pass and taking it all the way to the end zone for an electrifying pick-six. The defensive touchdown put Harmony on the scoreboard, cutting the deficit to 27-7, which would stand as the final score. It wasn’t enough to turn the tide for the Longhorns, but it was a powerful moment in a tough road game — and an especially memorable one for Dow’s family, who were in the stands in Lakeland to watch him take it to the house. The big play also added to what has already been a productive start to Dow’s junior season. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound cornerback, who wears No. 2 for Harmony, has been contributing in several areas for the Longhorns. Through the early part of the season, Dow has recorded an interception returned for a touchdown, one reception for 30 yards and two punt returns totaling 25 yards.

Osceola County Fire Rescue Renumbers Three Stations as Part of Department-Wide Battalion Alignment
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Osceola County Fire Rescue is renumbering three existing fire stations as part of a department-wide realignment of its geographic battalion districts aimed at improving operational efficiency as the county continues to grow.
The changes affect stations in the Narcoossee, Pleasant Hill Road and Celebration areas, but fire rescue officials emphasized that the new numbers are administrative only. There will be no change to the stations’ service areas or emergency response coverage. The station number changes are: • Station 51 is now Station 61 — 5030 Yukon St., St. Cloud, serving the Narcoossee area. • Station 64 is now Station 84 — 3385 Pleasant Hill Road, Kissimmee. • Station 72 is now Station 47 — 595 Celebration Place, Kissimmee, serving the Celebration area. According to Osceola County Fire Rescue, the renumbering is part of a larger effort to align station numbers with the geographic “battalions” in which the stations are located. The department said the alignment follows the addition of new fire stations throughout Osceola County over the past several years and is intended to help increase operational efficiencies across the growing fire rescue system.

Osceola County’s Reigning Miss Rodeo Florida RaeLynne Kempfer Sets Her Sights on Miss Rodeo America Crown
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Sixth-generation Osceola County rancher and reigning Miss Rodeo Florida RaeLynne Kempfer is saddling up for the next chapter of her rodeo journey after officially submitting her application to compete in the Miss Rodeo America Pageant in Las Vegas. Kempfer announced the milestone with gratitude for the people, friendships and experiences that have shaped her journey. “This year has truly been the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with memories, friendships, and experiences that I will carry with me forever,” Kempfer said. “I am so excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to see what Vegas has in store.” Deeply connected to Florida’s ranching community, Kempfer grew up showing livestock through 4-H, working alongside her family on its cattle operation and volunteering with the Osceola County Cattle Women’s Association. Her experience in the show ring and pasture helped develop her passion for agriculture, the beef industry and the preservation of Florida’s ranching heritage. Kempfer earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Central Florida and plans to continue her education as her journey unfolds. Her roots in the local rodeo community are equally strong. After being crowned Miss Silver Spurs in 2022, Kempfer continued serving the organization by joining the Miss Silver Spurs Pageant Committee. In that role, she mentors contestants and gives back to the program that played an important part in shaping her path.

KUA is reminding new residential customers that requests to establish electric service are processed through the utility’s online Customer Portal, allowing customers to begin the process without having to visit KUA in person. Before starting an application, customers should have the necessary documentation ready, including valid identification and a lease or proof of ownership, along with any other required documents. As part of the application process, KUA also conducts a credit review. Depending on the results of that review, a deposit may be required before electric service can be established. New Poinciana Clerk’s Office Location Now Open to Serve Community POINCIANA, Fla. — Residents in the Poinciana area now have a more convenient way to access Clerk of Court services following the opening of a new branch of the Office of Kelvin Soto, Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller. The new Poinciana office, located at 4547 Pleasant Hill Road, officially began conducting traffic services on Aug. 10, with additional services expected to be offered at the location in the future. The expansion brings Clerk services closer to residents in Poinciana and surrounding communities, reducing the need for many customers to travel to downtown Kissimmee to conduct business with the Clerk’s Office. Gateway Panthers Hold the Line, Edge Lake Minneola 1312 in Season-Opening Thriller By: J. Daniel Pearson Positively Osceola Nydrell Thigpen rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown and the Gateway defense turned away a late two-point conversion as the Panthers got off to 1-0 start with a 13-12 win over Lake Minneola. “It was pretty much the type of game I expected,” Panthers coach Marlin Roberts said. “Lake Minneola brought in a new coach last year and he has already started to turn that program around. I knew it would be a struggle.” That struggle started early, when quarterback Gianni Barzotti ‘s deep pass down the right sideline on the second play of the game was tipped by a Gateway defender into the hands of Eric Moore for a 55-yard touchdown and a 6-0 Minneola lead. One series later, the Hawks blocked a punt and had a first down at the Gateway 32. A 12yard run by Jamar Collis gave Minneola a first and goal on the Panthers 8, but a sack by Tavian Martinez pushed the ball back to the 12 and three plays later the Hawks turned the ball over on downs to keep it a one-score game. A long Panthers’ drive, paced by Thigpen’s 44 yards rushing and a 30-yard pass from Aristotle Span Jr. to Johnny Reyes II, gave Gateway the ball on Hawk 6. Two plays later the Panthers handed the ball back to the Hawks on a fumble during a muffed handoff.

Friday Night Lights: 10 Must-See Osceola County High School Football Games of 2026 For the Osceola Kowboys, Friday night’s 27-9 Kickoff Classic loss to Daytona Beach Mainland was less about the final score and more about an early wake-up call as they prepare for the start of the 2026 regular season. It didn’t take very long for Osceola coach Eric Pinellas to discuss the positives of Friday night’s Kickoff Classic with Daytona Beach Mainland. “The good? The game didn’t count on our record and our punter was really good,” Pinellas deadpanned after the Kowboys 27-9 loss. “What we saw tonight was an old-fashioned butt whipping. We didn’t play very well on offense or defense. Now we are a young team and we were short on some personnel tonight, but I told our players after the game that cannot be an excuse and that no one on our schedule was going to feel sorry for us.” It was a comedy of errors in the first half for both teams. After Javontay Barnett broke off a 30-yard run on the first play of the game, Osceola’s offense sputtered and they were forced to punt. On Mainland’s first possession, two center snaps went over quarterback Patrick Miller’s head – the second rolling through the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 Osceola lead. But Osceola would return the favor on their next possession, fumbling the ball away at midfield.

The annual contest is open to Osceola County students attending public, charter and private schools, as well as homeschooled students. This year’s contest will select 12 winning students, with each winner receiving $150 and having their artwork featured in KUA’s 2027 Calendar of Electrical Safety. For more than three decades, KUA’s Calendar Art Contest has encouraged local elementary school students to use their artistic talents to promote electrical safety and help educate families throughout the community. Students are encouraged to use their imagination to illustrate ways people can stay safe around electricity, electrical equipment and other potential hazards. Positively Osceola’s ‘Osceola Air Player of the Week’: Nydrell Thigpen Turns Around Panthers Fortunes!! Gateway High School junior running back Nydrell Thigpen has been named Positively Osceola’s Osceola Air Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2026 high school football season after powering the Panthers to a 13-12 season-opening win over Lake Minneola. Gateway coach Marlin Roberts says he doesn’t understand why more college football recruiters are not knocking on junior running back Nydrell Thigpen’s door. If he keeps producing on his current level, that could change in the coming months. Thigpen was a major factor in Gateway’s 13-12 season opening win over a muchimproved Lake Minneola club on Friday night – earning Positively Osceola’s Osceola Air Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2026 season. Thigpen ran past, around and through the Hawk defense, gaining 158 yards on 24 carries –averaging 6.3 yards per attempt. Many of those yards came after first contact and they did not include a 40-yard carry on his first attempt of the night that was called back by an offensive hold. He was particularly effective on Osceola’s two touchdown drives. He scored the team’s first touchdown on an eight-yard power run up the middle and on Gateway’s decisive touchdown run of the second half, he gained 41 yards on four carries.

St. Cloud QB Lattier Leads the Charge: Bulldogs Ready to Build on Championship Season Coming off an 8-3 season, a district championship and a trip to the FHSAA Regional Playoffs, the St. Cloud Bulldogs enter 2026 looking to build on that momentum — with standout junior quarterback Jeremiah Lattier back under center to lead the way. Lattier, who transferred from Lake Minneola after his freshman year, won the starting job and helped lead St. Cloud to its first district championship since 2016. Last year, the 6-3, 220-lb. quarterback completed almost 60% of his passes – throwing for 2800 yards and 25 touchdowns; while accounting for five more on the ground. “Whenever you can return a starter at quarterback, it’s a huge plus,” head coach Mike Short said. “Jeremiah stepped in as a sophomore and had a big year and has had a great offseason. We expect another big year as he builds his resume for colleges.” Although he lost several weapons to graduation, including two-way star Bryce Williams (804 receiving yards, 9 TDs), Lattier will have several playmakers returning. They include wide receiver Stacy Taylor (50 receptions, 656 yards, 9 TDs) and running back Mike Cuyler (273 yards rushing, 2 TDs). The equivalent of a sixth man in basketball, Cuyler has patiently waited his turn to shine in the Bulldogs offense. “Those two guys have the potential for outstanding years,” Short said. “Stacy started in the defensive backfield for two years before we moved him to offense last season. He could become what Bryce was for us last year. Cuyler has worked his tail off this year and has already started to turn the heads of college recruiters.”

Two intriguing matchups highlight the Week 3 high school football schedule for Osceola County public schools. All nine teams will be in action this week with only two playing at home. The first game of high interest is Osceola (1-1) — coming off a 34-7 win over Poinciana — traveling to Lake Mary to take on the defending 6A state champion Rams (1-0). It will be a huge challenge for the Kowboys, who got their offense on track last week against the Eagles, after scoring just one offensive touchdown in a season-opening 18-15 loss to St. Cloud in its opener. “We moved some pieces around on our line and they certainly played better than last week, but it’s still a work in progress,” coach Eric Pinellas said. “We’re still missing starting tackle Will Niell (concussion). We also need to develop some consistency in our passing game.” The Kowboys were able to move the ball on the ground last week as they piled up a 200-yard rushing game led by Javontay Barnett (16-110) and sophomore Jerry Canaday (9-66). For a second straight week the defense shined. They recorded two interceptions, returning one for touchdown, and allowed just a third quarter touchdown on a long pass play. Special teams did their part too, blocking a punt for a score.
