NEWS KUA to Host Free Movie in the Park Featuring ‘Trolls Band Together’ at Kissimmee’s Lakefront Park
Kissimmee Utility Authority, in partnership with the City of Kissimmee, will host a free Movie in the Park event, Friday, Feb. 2 at the Veterans Lawn of Kissimmee Lakefront Park as part of KUA’s annual 6-month Movie in the Park series. The event will feature Trolls Band Together, shown on a giant 50-foot screen.
Activities begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the movie at 7 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The movie will also feature closed captioning for the hearing impaired. KUA’s inflatable Kids Power Zone, a craft station, a photo booth, free popcorn, and prize giveaways will all be part of tonight’s free event. Onsite concessions will also be available.

Orlando Health Network launched innovative care models in 2023 Orlando Health Network launched various innovative health care models in 2023 to enhance the quality of patient care. Since its inception in 2013, the network has generated more than $165 million in savings to patients, payers, employers and taxpayers, according to the Clinically Integrated Network Value Report 2023.
The recently released 2023 report details how the network, part of the Orlando Health hospital system, launched multiple initiatives during 2023 to ensure that the nearly 300,000 patients it serves in Central and West Florida receive timely, efficient, and effective medical care from more than 6,600 multispecialty providers. “Our 2023 Clinically Integrated Network Value Report showcases our myriad innovative care models, clinical and quality programs, and strong performance across value-based arrangements in the past year,” said Erik Walker, MD, board chairman, Orlando Health Network. “Now serving nearly 300,000 patients, Orlando Health Network achieved notable accomplishments for the tenth year in a row through the thoughtful collaboration with our dedicated providers and health system partners. On behalf of our network, I am once again humbled to share these efforts and their accompanying achievements.” Initiatives launched by the network in 2023 include the Orlando Health Support Team for Aftercare and Resources Outpatient Centers, which are designed to effectively manage the post-hospitalization and advanced pharmacy needs of patients.

New Florida ‘Protect the Panther’ specialty license plate now available to Florida motorists A new Protect the Panther license plate is now available to Florida motorists, and features a striking photograph taken by Carlton Ward in 2018 of the first female panther documented north of the Caloosahatchee River since 1973, along with her kitten. The new license plate can be purchased at the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles or by checking with your local tax collector office for availability. The FWC is reminding the public that purchasing a Protect the Panther license plate isn’t the only way motorists can help panthers, drivers can also help by following all posted speed limits, particularly in panther zones, which are in place in several counties across south Florida to coincide with areas where panthers are known to cross. Panther speed zones help protect both Florida panthers and motorists from vehicle collisions and potential injury.

District Soccer, OBC Wrestling Highlight Busy Week in Osceola County High School Sports
District championships will be on the line in both boys’ and girls’ soccer this week, while the Orange Belt Conference Wrestling Championship will be held at Celebration High on Saturday. Add in the final week of regular season in basketball as teams jockey for district seeding and the girls weightlifting regional tournaments and it amounts to a busy week of action for local high school athletes. Here is a rundown on county sports action this week: SOCCER District soccer tournaments began last week for all eligible schools for both boys and girls teams and after preliminary rounds five county teams are still in contention for district titles. In Class 6A, District 7 boys action, St. Cloud (12-5-2) was the number two seed behind state power Viera (18-1-0). Weylan Craig’s team opened district play last week with a 2-1 win over East River but saw its season come to a possible end with a loss to powerful #3 Melbourne, 5-0. The Dogs will have to wait until district tournaments are concluded to see if their record merits an at-large regional bid.

Nephrectomy, or removal of a kidney, may be necessary when a patient has recurrent kidney infections, irreversible damage, long-term obstruction or tumors that indicate kidney cancer. Laparoscopic nephrectomy – a minimally invasive approach – uses tiny incisions in the abdomen that result in decreased blood loss, less pain, plus a shorter hospital stay and recovery. Many patients are able to return to full activity within 3-4 weeks after surgery.

Orlando Health: Keeping Bones Strong as We Age
From the time we are born, our bone tissue is continually being replaced through a process called bone remodeling. In our mid-20s, we reach peak bone mass, which stays fairly stable until we hit our 40s. At that point, bone cells start to die faster than replacement cells can be produced.
For women, bone loss increases after menopause and for men, around age 65 or 70, allowing for deterioration and weakness. This aging process is accelerated by osteoporosis, which causes the bones to become thinner, more brittle and subject to breaks during a fall. WHO’S AT-RISK Like hypertension and diabetes, osteoporosis is often referred to as one of the silent diseases because low bone density can go undetected until a broken bone brings the issue to light. Although this condition generally affects women at far greater rates than it does men, many non-gender specific lifestyle and health factors can increase your risks. Some include: • Diet, including increased levels of caffeine, salt and alcohol • Lifestyle choices such as smoking and inactivity • Vitamin deficiencies, including vitamin D and calcium • Adverse reactions to medications such as corticosteroids or anticonvulsants • Medical issues, including autoimmune diseases and diabetes A quick online test offered by the International Osteoporosis Foundation also can help you determine if you are at higher risk.
