From Fire Stations to Downtown Development: City Manager

Veronica Miller Shares St. Cloud Updates

St. Cloud City Manager Veronica Miller served as the featured speaker Tuesday morning at the St. Cloud Main Street Breakfast with the Pros at the St. Cloud VFW, where she shared updates on the city’s growth, priorities, and major projects shaping the community’s future.

During her presentation, Miller provided an overview of recently completed projects, initiatives currently underway, and key developments planned as St. Cloud continues to grow.

“It was a great opportunity to talk about the projects we’ve completed, the things we’re working on now, and what’s ahead for the City of St. Cloud,” Miller said.

“We have a lot of things going on—from downtown development and public safety investments to new fire stations and improvements that will support our growing community.”

Miller highlighted St. Cloud’s continued recognition as one of the Top 100 Best Small Cities to Start a Business, a distinction the city has earned for four consecutive years. In 2025, St. Cloud ranked 44th, reflecting the city’s growing reputation as an attractive place for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Among the projects discussed was a proposed public-private partnership mixeduse development near City Hall, which would include a downtown parking garage with approximately 475 parking spaces and more.

Kissimmee to Celebrate 143rd Birthday with Kowtown Festival at Lakefront Park on March 21

The City of Kissimmee is inviting the community to come together and celebrate 143 years of history, heritage, and hometown pride at the annual Kowtown Festival on Saturday, March 21, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Lakefront Park, sponsored by Experience Kissimmee.

The family-friendly celebration marks the City’s 143rd birthday and honors Kissimmee’s rich roots, western heritage, and vibrant community spirit. The festival will transform the scenic Lakefront Park into a lively gathering space filled with entertainment, activities, and birthday festivities for residents of all ages.

The event’s “Kowtown” theme pays tribute to Kissimmee’s longstanding agricultural and cattle traditions — a nod to the city’s historic identity that continues to shape its culture today. Attendees can expect a festive atmosphere complete with interactive experiences, entertainment, and a celebratory birthday vibe fitting for one of Central Florida’s most historic cities.

Located along the shores of Lake Tohopekaliga, Lakefront Park provides a picturesque backdrop for the afternoon celebration, offering plenty of open space for families to enjoy the festivities together.

City officials encourage residents and visitors alike to mark their calendars and join in honoring more than a century of growth, resilience, and community pride in Kissimmee.

St. Cloud Council Approves Digital Billboard at U.S. 192 and Hickory Tree Road, Recognizes Employee of the Month

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — At its Thursday evening meeting, the St. Cloud City Council approved a new digital billboard agreement, recognized an Employee of the Month, issued a community proclamation, and advanced several development and policy discussions affecting the growing city.

During the meeting, the Council approved an agreement with Outfront Media to install a two-sided digital billboard at the northeast corner of U.S. 192 and Hickory Tree Road, a move city leaders say will enhance communication with residents while reducing the number of traditional billboards within city limits.

Under Florida Statute 70.20, the new digital billboard will replace five existing billboards currently located within the city limits. Those five billboards will be removed as part of the agreement.

City officials say the digital display will also provide the City of St. Cloud with dedicated messaging space at no cost, allowing the city to share information about events, programs, and public safety alerts.

Mayor Chris Robertson described the addition as a significant benefit for the community.

“This is a big win for the city,” Robertson said. “Many times we hear from citizens who say they didn’t know about an event."

Dedicated Public Servants at Annual Employee Memorial

The City of Kissimmee held its annual Employee Memorial Service Friday morning in the Rain Garden at City Hall, bringing together employees, retirees, family members, and community leaders from the City of Kissimmee, Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA), and Toho Water Authority to honor public servants who dedicated their careers to serving the community.

The ceremony began with the Posting of Colors by the Kissimmee Public Safety Honor Guard, followed by opening remarks from Master of Ceremonies Justin Hetu of the City of Kissimmee.

A musical reflection, “It Is Well With My Soul,” performed by Lisa Kane of the City of Kissimmee, provided a moment of reflection before the reading of recent retirees, recognizing those whose careers recently concluded after years of service. The keynote address was delivered by Heather Havey, Chief Stakeholder Services Officer for Toho Water Authority, who spoke about the lasting impact of public service and the legacy left by those who dedicate their lives to serving others.

One of the ceremony’s most moving moments came during the Placing of Roses, conducted by the Kissimmee Public Safety Honor Guard and special guests, as roses were placed in remembrance of employees honored during the service.

Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital Expands Breast Cancer Screening with Advanced 3D Mammography

Patients in Osceola County now have access to advanced breast cancer screening technology close to home as Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital introduces 3D mammography, also known as digital breast tomosynthesis.

The new imaging technology enhances traditional mammograms by creating a three-dimensional image of the breast. Instead of capturing a single flat image, 3D mammography takes multiple images from different angles, allowing radiologists to examine breast tissue layer by layer.

This added depth improves the ability to detect small, invasive cancers earlier and is especially beneficial for patients with dense breast tissue.

Medical experts say the technology not only improves cancer detection but also reduces unnecessary callbacks for additional imaging, helping provide patients with clearer answers sooner.

“Every clearer image represents an opportunity to detect cancer at an early stage, which means more treatment options that are typically less invasive,” said Sara Ardila, MD, breast surgical oncologist with the Orlando Health Cancer Institute — St. Cloud.

“When patients can access advanced screening close to home, they are more likely to stay consistent with annual mammograms."

City of Kissimmee Celebrates Women’s History Month with Reception, Art Exhibition at City Hall

The City of Kissimmee honored the achievements and contributions of women throughout the community during its Women’s History Month Reception, featuring a keynote address, special recognitions, and a citywide art exhibition.

“We celebrate the women who have shaped Kissimmee, and we’re committed to ensuring that the next generation has opportunities to reach their full potential,” said Mayor Jackie Espinosa during the event.

The celebration featured a keynote address by Tammy Douglass of Help Now of Osceola, an organization dedicated to providing safety, support, and healing for survivors of domestic violence. Her remarks highlighted the importance of empowerment and continued support for women across the community.

The celebration also included an artistic showcase presented by Osceola Arts as part of its Art in Public Places program, currently on display at City Hall through April 30. The Women’s History Month exhibition features the work of six local artists: Yeny Rojas, Madison Wilkins, Jesenia Alvarez, Grace Kline, Joan Robinson, and Amalia Monroe.

City leaders presented certificates of recognition to Douglass, national anthem performer Alexis Tillman, emcee Melissa Zayas Moreno, and all participating artists in recognition of their contributions to the event and the community.

Ellianos Coffee Breaks Ground on New St. Cloud Drive-Thru, Opening Later This Year

A popular Southeast coffee brand is making its way to Osceola County, as Ellianos Coffee has officially begun construction on a new drive-thru location in east St. Cloud.

The new coffee shop, located at 4940 E. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, is expected to open later this year, bringing a fast, guest-focused coffee experience along with breakfast offerings to one of Central Florida’s fastest-growing communities.

The St. Cloud location represents continued expansion for Ellianos Coffee across Central Florida. The company recently celebrated the opening of a new store in Winter Springs and has additional locations currently in development throughout the Orlando area, signaling strong regional demand for its drive-thru model.

Founded in 2002 in Lake City, Florida, Ellianos Coffee has grown steadily throughout the Southeast while maintaining its focus on quality, efficiency, and hospitality.

“We’re excited to become part of the St. Cloud community,” said Lawton Unrau, President of Ellianos Coffee. “Our team looks forward to serving guests with the speed, quality, and hospitality that make Ellianos a daily favorite in Florida.”

New Renewable Natural Gas Fueling Station Planned in Kissimmee to Serve LYNX Buses

A new compressed natural gas fueling station planned for Kissimmee will help power Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) buses while expanding public transit capacity and supporting cleaner transportation across Central Florida.

Nopetro Energy announced it has extended its decade-long partnership with LYNX and will construct a new fueling facility powered entirely by renewable natural gas.

The station will be built at 100 N. Alaska Ave. in Kissimmee and will feature two fueling lanes and two dispensers designed to serve LYNX’s growing fleet of buses. Construction is expected to be completed by Aug. 31, 2026, with operations beginning shortly afterward.

Company officials say the new facility will increase fueling capacity for the regional transit system and help improve operational efficiency as demand for public transportation continues to grow.

“Public transit agencies need fueling infrastructure that keeps pace with their growth,” said Jorge Herrera, CEO of Nopetro Energy.

“This new station strengthens LYNX’s ability to operate a modern, lower-emission fleet while managing costs and maintaining reliable service.”

Among the highlights is a long drive experience from Pin High Drive Pros, giving participants the chance to witness professional-level power off the tee. Early registration is now open, and organizers are encouraging teams to sign up soon to take advantage of Early Bird pricing of $375 per foursome, available through April 8. After that date, pricing will increase to $525 for standard registration through April 30, and $600 for late registration through May 7.

St. Cloud Deputy Mayor Ken Gilbert Named Chairman of Regional Transportation Board

St. Cloud Deputy Mayor Ken Gilbert has been appointed chairman of the Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board (TDLCB), a regional board dedicated to improving transportation access for residents with special mobility needs.

The Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board focuses on identifying and coordinating transportation services for individuals who cannot easily access traditional public transportation. This includes residents with physical or economic challenges, as well as senior citizens who rely on alternative transportation options to reach essential services.

The board is made up of representatives from local governments, transportation providers, and community organizations. Together, they work to ensure that transportation resources are effectively coordinated to serve vulnerable populations throughout the region.

“I am honored to represent the City of St. Cloud on this board, and to have been appointed chairman,” Gilbert said. “The work this board does is critical for so many in our community and throughout the region. Transportation is so important to everyone in our growing region, but especially to those who struggle with accessing essential transportation services.”

E-Bikes and Scooters in Osceola County: What Riders and Drivers Need to Know from Draper Law

Across Osceola County, e-bikes and electric scooters are becoming increasingly common. From neighborhood streets to sidewalks near schools and parks, these devices offer convenience and mobility—but they also introduce new safety risks and legal questions many residents may not fully understand.

Unlike traditional bicycles, e-bikes can travel at much higher speeds and often share spaces with pedestrians and vehicles.

When accidents occur, determining who is responsible can quickly become complicated.

Here are several important things riders and drivers should keep in mind.

Florida law allows many e-bikes to be treated similarly to traditional bicycles, but local rules, road types, and riding behavior can affect where they are legally permitted.

Riders should be aware of speed limits, sidewalks, and designated bike lanes to avoid potential legal issues.

E-bike accidents can involve multiple scenarios. A rider could collide with a pedestrian, be struck by a vehicle, or lose control due to road hazards.

Kissimmee Breaks Ground on $13 Million Fire Station and Park Project

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 18, 2026) — The City of Kissimmee has broken ground on a $13 million project that will bring a new fire station and upgrades to a neighborhood park, city officials announced this week.

The project includes construction of Fire Station 2 at 1465 Mill Slough Road and renovations to Mill Run Park. The new station will replace Fire Station 12 on Denn John Lane, which was built in 1980 and no longer meets modern operational standards.

City leaders and firefighters gathered at the site to mark the start of construction.

The new 14,235-square-foot facility will feature three drive-through apparatus bays, 24-hour fire and emergency medical service coverage, and living quarters for personnel. The station will also include reinforced structural systems and emergency power capabilities designed to maintain operations during severe weather.

Fire Chief Jim Walls said the project is a critical step in strengthening emergency response across the area.

“This project represents an important investment in the safety and preparedness of our community,” Walls said. “The new station will provide firefighters with modern facilities that support efficient response and around-the-clock service.”

Harmony Wins OBC Flag Football Championship with 26–20 Overtime Victory Over Celebration, Captures 6th Straight Title

Martha “Smalls” Edwards (2021-25), was the last freshman quarterback to start for the Harmony varsity flag football team. She would go on to claim four straight OBC championships and take four straight Osceola County Player of the Year Awards in leading the Horn to four regional appearances. Longhorns coach Paul Strauch can only smile when asked he may found a freshman replacement for Edwards.

On Thursday night, nine-grader Ivy Munns completed 19 of 41 passes for 181 yards and four touchdowns – including a 10-yarder to Khloe Cook-Osani in overtime – to give Harmony a 26-20 overtime win over Celebration in the championship game of the 2026 Orange Belt Conference Tournament.

For Harmony, now 8-1, it was their sixth straight OBC Championship, 8th in 10 years and 15th overall. Celebration, who came into the tournament as the number two seed, fell to 8-1.

“Because the first state rankings hadn’t come out yet, they used last year’s final rankings to seed for the OBC Tournament. I will be absolutely honest, Celebration should have been the top seed. They were undefeated and easily beat East Bay, who handed us our loss this year,” Strauch said. “That is a good team over there, that just plain whipped us in the first half tonight.”

Kissimmee Chain Produces Historic Bass Haul as Alec Morrison Captures Toyota Series Victory

The Kissimmee Chain of Lakes once again proved why it’s one of Florida’s premier bass fisheries as professional angler Alec Morrison of Peru, New York, delivered a record-breaking performance to win the Toyota Series event on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes.

Morrison dominated the three-day tournament, hauling in 15 bass weighing a total of 90 pounds, 14 ounces, shattering the Major League Fishing (MLF) record for a five-fish-limit tournament on the Kissimmee Chain. His winning total surpassed the previous mark of 85 pounds, 12 ounces and secured him the tournament’s $40,500 top prize.

The victory was sealed with a massive Day 3 catch of 37 pounds, 1 ounce, which also set a new single-day MLF weight record on the Kissimmee Chain.

Finishing second was Brody Campbell of Oxford, Ohio, who weighed in 75 pounds over three days.

Morrison’s strategy focused on targeting bass transitioning away from shallow spawning areas and staging along travel routes in deeper water.

“I was hardcore ‘Scopin’,” Morrison said, referring to his use of forward-facing sonar technology. “Those three hours a day were by far the most important for me.”

Give Kids The World Celebrates 40 Years of Bringing Hope and Joy to Families at Kissimmee Village

The nonprofit Give Kids The World Village celebrated a major milestone on March 6, marking 40 years of bringing hope, joy, and unforgettable memories to children with critical illnesses and their families.

Positively Osceola was on hand at the Village in Kissimmee as the organization kicked off its 40th anniversary celebration with a special unveiling inside the whimsical Castle of Miracles, honoring the legacy of its founder and the more than 200,000 families who have experienced the magic of the Village over the past four decades.

A highlight of the event was the premiere of a new eight-minute feature film, “What Henri Gave the World,” which shares the inspiring life story of Henri Landwirth — a Holocaust survivor whose vision and compassion led him to create Give Kids The World in 1986.

The film will now be a permanent part of the Castle of Miracles experience, where more than 201,000 gold stars hang from the ceiling, each representing a wish child who has visited the Village during a dream trip to Central Florida.

Give Kids The World began when Landwirth, then a successful hotelier in Central Florida, learned about a young girl with cancer whose wish was to visit the area’s theme parks.

Former Osceola Kowboy Wrestler Anderson Heap Eyes Historic All-America Finish at NCAA Wrestling Championships

For the first time in Osceola High School wrestling history, a Kowboy has the chance to earn Division-I All-America honors—and 2024 graduate and threetime state champion Anderson Heap will take his shot this weekend at the NCAA Championships at Rocket Mortgage Arena in Cleveland. A top eight finish at nationals would secure Heap All-America status.

He automatically qualified for the tournament by winning the Southern Conference (SoCo) 149-lb. championship with a thrilling 8-5 sudden-victory overtime decision over Citadel’s Carson DesRosier.

It was his second decision in a month over DesRosier, beating him in overtime in a dual meet two weeks earlier. And although Heap could have still made the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid, he felt it necessary to win the SoCo tournament and remove any guess work.

“Our conference is not considered one the top ones in the country and is given just one automatic bid to nationals. There was a chance I still could have got an at-large bid, but I certainly did not want to rely on that process."

Osceola Council on Aging Calling for Volunteer Drivers to Deliver Meals and Make a Positive Difference for Local Seniors

The Osceola Council on Aging is calling on members of the community to step forward and volunteer as Meals on Wheels drivers, helping deliver nutritious meals and friendly check-ins to homebound seniors across Osceola County.

According to the organization, many seniors in the community are currently waiting for volunteers to help deliver their meals. For those receiving the service, the brief visit from a volunteer driver often means far more than just food—it provides safety, connection, and reassurance that someone is looking out for them.

The Osceola Council on Aging says volunteering requires only a small commitment but can make a significant difference in someone’s life.

Drivers typically spend just 60 to 90 minutes delivering meals, and volunteers can choose to help once a week or even just a few times each month.

Using their own vehicle, volunteers are assigned a route where they deliver meals and check in with seniors who depend on the program. For many of those individuals, the volunteer may be the only person they see that day.

“No special skills are required, and training is provided,” the organization said. “What matters most is having compassionate volunteers willing to give a little of their time.

Osceola Clerk & Comptroller Kelvin Soto’s Office Offers Virtual Queue System to Improve Customer Service

The Osceola Clerk of the Circuit Court & County Comptroller has officially entered a new era of customer service with the rollout of its virtual queue system, a modernization effort designed to reduce wait times and improve the overall courthouse experience for visitors.

The system reflects Clerk & Comptroller Kelvin Soto’s continued commitment to efficiency, accessibility, and innovation across county services.

With the virtual queue now fully operational, visitors can join the line digitally using their smartphones upon arrival.

Guests simply scan a QR code located near the elevators on the second floor to enter the queue, eliminating the need to wait in traditional lines.

Once checked in, visitors receive real-time notifications on their phones when a customer care representative is ready to assist them, allowing individuals to wait comfortably in their vehicles, a nearby coffee shop, or designated courthouse waiting areas.

The system also streamlines check-in for residents with scheduled marriage or passport appointments, who are able to confirm their arrival through an email or text message upon entering the courthouse.

Osceola Arts Brings Four Artists Together to Transform 180Foot Wall in Kissimmee Through Landmark ARTisNOW Mural

A major public art initiative is taking shape in the heart of Kissimmee as Osceola Arts, in partnership with the City of Kissimmee Community Redevelopment Agency, launches a landmark mural installation along 900 E. Vine Street.

The ARTisNOW Public Murals Project will bring together four acclaimed artists to transform a 180-foot wall facing E. Magnolia Street into a vibrant, community-centered visual experience celebrating Kissimmee’s identity, environment, and cultural diversity.

The expansive wall—measuring 180 feet wide and 6.5 feet tall—is segmented by architectural pillars into four individual canvases, each approximately 44 feet wide. This design allows each artist to present a unique vision while contributing to a cohesive and immersive mural that reflects the spirit of the community.

Four Artists, One Unified Vision

Jacksonville-based muralist Jennifer Veal will present an underwater-themed composition that blends expressive realism with environmental storytelling.

Her piece features a woman merging with ocean elements, surrounded by sea grass, schools of fish, and glowing jellyfish—symbolizing harmony with nature and the importance of environmental stewardship.
