N.E.S.T. Gallery Unveiled at Osceola Clerk & Comptroller’s Office: A New Home for Osceola’s Student Artists
The Osceola County Clerk of Court, Kelvin Soto, Esq., in collaboration with the School District of Osceola County, celebrated its ‘second’ grand opening of the N.E.S.T. Gallery on January 21. The event marked a significant milestone in the promotion of student artistry in the community. Hosted on the 2nd floor of the Jon B. Morgan Courthouse, the N.E.S.T. Gallery—short for Neighborhood for Exceptional Student Talent—showcases the creativity and talent of Osceola County’s young artists in a a public place available to the community at no cost. The gallery features an impressive array of artworks created by students from various schools across the county. These pieces are exhibited in the second floor of the Clerk & Comptroller Customer Care wings of the courthouse, a space that brings art closer to the public. The initiative to launch the NEST Gallery came from Clerk & Comptroller Soto’s desire to enhance the office’s interaction with the public. This vision led to the transformation of the Customer Care lobbies into a vibrant art exhibition space.

The St. Cloud team earned this honor following their successful assistance in the delivery of a baby on December 3, 2023, while on the way to the hospital. St. Cloud Upends Harmony in Boys Basketball, Advances to Orange Belt Conference Final on Friday Diomar Ortiz drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key with 2.7 seconds left to give St. Cloud a 5452 upset road win over top-seeded Harmony – sending the Bulldogs to Friday’s 2024 Orange Belt Conference Championship game. St. Cloud (15-5) will square off against Poinciana (12-4) at 7 p.m. Friday night in the neutral site championship game at Celebration. Texas, Florida Top Growth States Again in 2023, According to U-Haul Migration Data Trends Florida ranked just behind Texas in netting the largest number of movers in oneway U-Haul equipment in 2023, marking the third consecutive year the two states have finished atop the U-Haul Growth Index. After Texas and Florida were North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Idaho, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and Virginia round out the top 10 states for growth. For the fourth year in a row, California reflected the largest net loss of one-way movers. Other bottom-five states for growth are Michigan, New Jersey, Illinois and Massachusetts. New York ranks 43rd. U-Haul calculates growth states by each state’s net gain (or loss) of one-way equipment from customer transactions in a calendar year. The U-Haul Growth Index is compiled from more than 2.5 million one-way U-Haul truck, trailer and U-Box moving container transactions that occur annually across the U.S. and Canada. “While one-way transactions in 2023 remained below the record-breaking levels we witnessed immediately following the pandemic, we continued to see many of the same geographical trends from U-Haul customers moving between states,” said John “J.T.” Taylor, U-Haul International president. “Migration to states in the Southeast and Southwest is still very pronounced. Demand for one-way equipment out of certain markets in the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast mirrors what we have seen during recent moving cycles. Wherever DIY customers go, and whatever mobility and selfstorage needs they have in 2024, U-Haul will be there with solutions.”

Orlando Health Network launched innovative care models in 2023 Orlando Health Network launched various innovative health care models in 2023 to enhance the quality of patient care. Since its inception in 2013, the network has generated more than $165 million in savings to patients, payers, employers and taxpayers, according to the Clinically Integrated Network Value Report 2023.
The recently released 2023 report details how the network, part of the Orlando Health hospital system, launched multiple initiatives during 2023 to ensure that the nearly 300,000 patients it serves in Central and West Florida receive timely, efficient, and effective medical care from more than 6,600 multispecialty providers. “Our 2023 Clinically Integrated Network Value Report showcases our myriad innovative care models, clinical and quality programs, and strong performance across value-based arrangements in the past year,” said Erik Walker, MD, board chairman, Orlando Health Network. “Now serving nearly 300,000 patients, Orlando Health Network achieved notable accomplishments for the tenth year in a row through the thoughtful collaboration with our dedicated providers and health system partners. On behalf of our network, I am once again humbled to share these efforts and their accompanying achievements.” Initiatives launched by the network in 2023 include the Orlando Health Support Team for Aftercare and Resources Outpatient Centers, which are designed to effectively manage the post-hospitalization and advanced pharmacy needs of patients.

NEWS KUA to Host Free Movie in the Park Featuring ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse’ at Kissimmee’s Lakefront Park Kissimmee Utility Authority, in partnership with the City of Kissimmee, will host a free Movie in the Park event, Friday, Feb. 2 at the Veterans Lawn of Kissimmee Lakefront Park as part of KUA’s annual 6-month Movie in the Park series. The event will feature “Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse,” shown on a giant 50-foot screen.
Activities begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the movie at 7 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The movie will also feature closed captioning for the hearing impaired. KUA’s inflatable Kids Power Zone, a craft station, a photo booth, free popcorn, and prize giveaways will all be part of tonight’s free event. Onsite concessions will also be available.

96-unit affordable housing project breaks ground in West Kissimmee, Osceola County and City of Kissimmee help fund development A $33.9 million 96unit affordable housing community is coming to West Vine Street in Kissimmee that will consist of four threestory buildings and a free standing clubhouse with a pool, cabana and other amenities. Osceola County is provided $4.5 million in financing, along with the City of Kissimmee contributing another $500,000.

The Buccaneers proved that point again this weekend, blitzing through three opponents to capture the FHSAA Class 3A State Dual Meet Championships at Osceola Gymnasium. South Dade ripped South Plantation (72-3) in Friday’s quarterfinals; beat Wellington in Saturday morning’s semifinals (59-9) and then defeated the host Kowboys (55-15) in the state championship match. It was South Dade’s sixth Dual Meet State Championship in the seven years the event has been held. The Bucs will also be heavy favorites to win their 11th consecutive 3A title in next month’s individual bracket tournament.

St. Cloud Wins 14th Orange Belt Conference Girls Weightlifting Crown, Sets Up OBC Rematch With Gateway
The gap may be closing, but St. Cloud still wears the crown. The Lady Bulldogs won both the traditional (bench press and clean-and-jerk) and the Olympic (snatch and clean-and-jerk) disciplines on Friday night to clinch their 14th consecutive Orange Belt Conference girls’ weightlifting crown at Harmony High School.
With 142 combined points (76 in Olympic and 66 in Traditional), St. Cloud outdistanced host Harmony (second in both with 107 points) and Tohopekaliga (84 combined points) to clinch the OBC crown. Osceola (49), Celebration (21), Liberty (17), Gateway (12) and Poinciana (8) rounded out the team scoring.

Laparoscopic nephrectomy – a minimally invasive approach – uses tiny incisions in the abdomen that result in decreased blood loss, less pain, plus a shorter hospital stay and recovery. Many patients are able to return to full activity within 3-4 weeks after surgery.
