Texas, Florida Top Growth States Again in 2023, According to U-Haul Migration Data Trends Florida ranked just behind Texas in netting the largest number of movers in oneway U-Haul equipment in 2023, marking the third consecutive year the two states have finished atop the U-Haul Growth Index. After Texas and Florida were North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Idaho, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and Virginia round out the top 10 states for growth. For the fourth year in a row, California reflected the largest net loss of one-way movers. Other bottom-five states for growth are Michigan, New Jersey, Illinois and Massachusetts. New York ranks 43rd. U-Haul calculates growth states by each state’s net gain (or loss) of one-way equipment from customer transactions in a calendar year. The U-Haul Growth Index is compiled from more than 2.5 million one-way U-Haul truck, trailer and U-Box moving container transactions that occur annually across the U.S. and Canada. “While one-way transactions in 2023 remained below the record-breaking levels we witnessed immediately following the pandemic, we continued to see many of the same geographical trends from U-Haul customers moving between states,” said John “J.T.” Taylor, U-Haul International president. “Migration to states in the Southeast and Southwest is still very pronounced. Demand for one-way equipment out of certain markets in the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast mirrors what we have seen during recent moving cycles. Wherever DIY customers go, and whatever mobility and selfstorage needs they have in 2024, U-Haul will be there with solutions.”

Orlando Health Network launched innovative care models in 2023 Orlando Health Network launched various innovative health care models in 2023 to enhance the quality of patient care. Since its inception in 2013, the network has generated more than $165 million in savings to patients, payers, employers and taxpayers, according to the Clinically Integrated Network Value Report 2023.
The recently released 2023 report details how the network, part of the Orlando Health hospital system, launched multiple initiatives during 2023 to ensure that the nearly 300,000 patients it serves in Central and West Florida receive timely, efficient, and effective medical care from more than 6,600 multispecialty providers. “Our 2023 Clinically Integrated Network Value Report showcases our myriad innovative care models, clinical and quality programs, and strong performance across value-based arrangements in the past year,” said Erik Walker, MD, board chairman, Orlando Health Network. “Now serving nearly 300,000 patients, Orlando Health Network achieved notable accomplishments for the tenth year in a row through the thoughtful collaboration with our dedicated providers and health system partners. On behalf of our network, I am once again humbled to share these efforts and their accompanying achievements.” Initiatives launched by the network in 2023 include the Orlando Health Support Team for Aftercare and Resources Outpatient Centers, which are designed to effectively manage the post-hospitalization and advanced pharmacy needs of patients.

NEWS KUA to Host Free Movie in the Park Featuring ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse’ at Kissimmee’s Lakefront Park Kissimmee Utility Authority, in partnership with the City of Kissimmee, will host a free Movie in the Park event, Friday, Feb. 2 at the Veterans Lawn of Kissimmee Lakefront Park as part of KUA’s annual 6-month Movie in the Park series. The event will feature “Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse,” shown on a giant 50-foot screen.
Activities begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the movie at 7 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The movie will also feature closed captioning for the hearing impaired. KUA’s inflatable Kids Power Zone, a craft station, a photo booth, free popcorn, and prize giveaways will all be part of tonight’s free event. Onsite concessions will also be available.

96-unit affordable housing project breaks ground in West Kissimmee, Osceola County and City of Kissimmee help fund development A $33.9 million 96unit affordable housing community is coming to West Vine Street in Kissimmee that will consist of four threestory buildings and a free standing clubhouse with a pool, cabana and other amenities. Osceola County is provided $4.5 million in financing, along with the City of Kissimmee contributing another $500,000.

SPORTS Osceola Kowboys’ Strong Showing Nets Second Place in FHSAA State Dual Meet Wrestling Championships When it comes to FHSAA wrestling, there’s South Dade and there’s everyone else. The Buccaneers proved that point again this weekend, blitzing through three opponents to capture the FHSAA Class 3A State Dual Meet Championships at Osceola Gymnasium. South Dade ripped South Plantation (72-3) in Friday’s quarterfinals; beat Wellington in Saturday morning’s semifinals (59-9) and then defeated the host Kowboys (55-15) in the state championship match. It was South Dade’s sixth Dual Meet State Championship in the seven years the event has been held. The Bucs will also be heavy favorites to win their 11th consecutive 3A title in next month’s individual bracket tournament.

The gap may be closing, but St. Cloud still wears the crown. Kelly Pozzoli was in her early 30s and in the process of moving from Chicago to Florida when she got news that no young woman wants to hear: she had cancer. In December 2011, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Kelly is featured in the film, “Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic,” a new documentary that details the lives of five women with a HPV, the virus that causes cervical cancer.
Unfortunately, thousands of women share Kelly’s story. According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 13,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer this year. The Pap test, which screens for cervical cancer, has helped us reduce cervical cancer deaths by more than 50 percent over the last 30 years. However, we still lose too many women every year to this disease.

Orlando Health: Did I Hurt My Knee? Or Is It Arthritis? Pain and swelling in your knee –one of the body’s most often injured joints – can have a wide range of causes, both traumatic and nontraumatic. Figuring out the root of your discomfort can be a challenge, since the symptoms are often the similar, regardless of the underlying cause. Among the most common culprits are arthritis and torn meniscus. Both can cause a buildup of fluid in and around the knee joint. For most people, determining the difference between these two afflictions is difficult, if not impossible. Often, it requires a visit to your primary care physician or an orthopedist to get an accurate diagnosis. Still, there are some telltale signs that could suggest what is causing your pain. Arthritis in the Knee Arthritis is inflammation of the joint, and osteoarthritis is the most common type found in the knee. Symptoms often appear after the age of 50 and could slowly erode the thin layer of cartilage that protects and cushions the bones found in your knee joint. As that cartilage wears away, you lose that protective layer, which narrows the joint space. Your body responds to that irritation with a fluid buildup that causes swelling and further discomfort. Among the symptoms: • Swelling and stiffness in the joint make it difficult to move your knee • Symptoms are worse in the morning or after resting • Pain flares up after vigorous activity • You may feel a clicking or grinding in your knee, caused by loose pieces of cartilage • Your knee may feel like buckling because of the pain • Changes in the weather may cause increased pain
