FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE (FYE)
The First Year Experience program is designed to support your transition from high school to our beautiful urban campus through academic support, developing friendships on campus, and making a home at PSU. You’ll be part of a Living Learning Community with other students who have similar academic interests and take courses together to expand learning beyond the classroom. Your Resident Assistants attend the shared courses to provide support in the classroom and host programs, excursions, and study sessions, and will connect you with faculty.

Eligibility for FYE: Students under the age of 20 and who graduated from high school less than a year before the start of fall term qualify for FYE. Students who took a gap year after high school and have less than 30 college credits may also be eligible.
SECOND YEAR EXPERIENCE (SYE)
The Second Year Experience program supports students who completed FYE and new second-year transfer students. Located in the renovated St. Helens building, SYE provides continued guidance, connection, and opportunities for growth. You’ll strengthen your independence, build essential life skills, and engage with a supportive community of peers who share your goals and experiences.

FIRST YEAR HOUSING OPTIONS
First year students live on first year-only floors in Broadway Hall and Ondine Hall. Honors students have the option to live in Stephen Epler Hall, home to the Honors Living Learning Community.
ON CAMPUS HOUSING REQUIREMENT
First year students who live more than 25 miles away from campus at the time of application, are under 20 years old on the first day of the term, and who enroll in eight or more credits are required to live in a PSU residence hall during their first academic year (fall, winter, and spring terms).

Furnished studios have a private bathroom, which may be in the unit or shared with an adjoining unit.
BROADWAY HALL
Furnished studios have a private bathroom and kitchenette with a mini fridge and stovetop.
STEPHEN EPLER HALL
One of the many benefits of admission to the University Honors College is getting to live, work, and study with fellow Honors students in the beautiful and sustainable Stephen Epler Hall. Living in Epler as an Honors student isn’t required, but most Honors students who live on campus choose to be part of this dynamic Living Learning Community and connect with their Honors classmates. Epler Hall is also home to the Honors classrooms and the Honors Commons computer lab, study space, and lounge reserved for Honors students and open 24/7.

TRANSFER & GRADUATE HOUSING OPTIONS
Transfer and continuing students can live in any of our residence halls, with a variety of options to fit your needs. At Portland State, more transfer and continuing students live on campus than first year students, and we have buildings and floors dedicated to transfer and continuing students. You can choose from a studio (Broadway, Stephen Epler, and St. Helens), studio suite (Ondine), or one-bedroom (Blumel and St. Helens). Furnished units include a bed, dresser, desk, and desk chair. Unfurnished units do not include any furniture.
ROOMMATES: You can choose whether or not you have a roommate. We can match you with a roommate based on your profile answers, or you can submit a roommate request. If a roommate isn’t for you, we offer plenty of single units.

DINING OPTIONS
Our flexible dining plans give you access to Victor’s Dining Center (an all-you-careto-eat dining hall) and other on-campus dining spots including Bowery Bagels , Ace Sushi , and Versa Cafe . Meal plans come with Swipe Bites , so you can use your meal plan at all campus dining spots.
First Year Experience students are required to have a meal plan. When you sign your housing contract you’ll select a meal plan that fits your lifestyle. Meal plans are recommended for transfer and continuing students , but not required.
THE PRICE YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU PAY. You don’t have to worry about additional fees—electricity, wifi, water, and trash are covered in the monthly cost. Amounts are based on 2026-2027 costs*. Housing & Dining rates are billed per term. Monthly payment plans are available.
HOW TO SIGN UP FOR ON CAMPUS HOUSING MAKE YOUR MOVE
Apply to PSU. You must be admitted to PSU to apply for housing.
Submit Your Housing Contract. You must activate your PSU Student Account (Odin) at oam.pdx.edu before you can log in to the housing portal.
Visit pdx.edu/housing/contract to submit your housing contract. If you have a roommate request, include it via the Roommate Search Tool — and select the same preferences as your preferred roommate.
Pay the $50 Fee + $140 Deposit. The Housing application includes a $50 non-refundable application fee and a $140 spring prepayment (deposit). Both fees will post to your student account and must be paid by the first payment deadline of your move-in term. The $140 spring prepayment will be credited to your Spring Term housing charges.
Accept Your Assignment. You’ll be notified via your @pdx.edu email when you get your housing assignment. Follow the instructions in the email to reserve your spot. Assignments are made on a firstcome, first-serve basis. You can log in to the Housing Portal to view your contract status, room assignment, and roommate information: pdx.edu/housing/portal
IMPORTANT DATES
PSU accepts housing contracts on a rolling basis. We strongly encourage students to complete a contract as early as possible because spaces fill up fast.
