elcome to Portland Players. Thanks so much for joining us for this, our 96th season opener, Jesus Christ Superstar. It’s a privilege to get a chance to share this show with you, and none of us here at Players take that lightly. As I have participated in productions over the past few years here at Players, both in front of and behind the curtain, I have garnered immeasurable joy and appreciation for our Players community. I’ve been privy to a wealth of smiles and laughter (Players regulars can likely attest to the laughter), and as I move into my first season as president of the board, I do so guided by a sense of responsibility towards this organization that has fostered those joys for me and so many others. That said, I am well aware of the myriad other contributions that support Players, and I’d like to use this opportunity to recognize them. Firstly, I’d like to thank Michael Donovan (our “Superstar” Director in every sense), Rebecca Caron (Music Director), Viki Perreault (Choreographer), and the entire rest of the cast and crew of this production. Please take a moment to review those folks noted here in our program, and appreciate the efforts they have leveraged over the past few months. Dozens of folks, including actors, crew, tech, musicians, designers, and producers, came together to make this show happen. Simply put, the theater we make is what makes us who we are here at Players, and everyone who had a hand in this production is worthy of high praise (Judas’ opinion notwithstanding). Congrats to all involved. I would also be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to humbly appreciate the efforts of our volunteers here at Players. Though they won’t take any bows during this run, our ushers, box office workers, cleaning staff, maintenance crews, and myriad other volunteers are critical to our continued operation. Further, to my fellow board members, who share the responsibility of curating and administrating our wonderful theater, thank you for your collaboration, your trust, and your endless efforts towards our shared goals. To each of you reading this message that counts yourself amongst our volunteers, in whatever capacity, know that you are seen and appreciated. Special thanks as well to our sponsors and donors. DIRECTOR’S NOTE
remember one Christmas in the very early ’80s when I was dragged to a family friend’s holiday party, knowing the night ahead would be spent sitting alone in their den with a paper plate of finger foods and whatever was airing on channels 6, 8, or 13. But wait. They had cable! Cable! And the movie they had playing was Jesus Christ Superstar! My love for this show was born that night. As Carl Anderson was lowered from the heavens in his white fringed jumpsuit, I knew I wanted to do that. I wanted to sing and dance. I wanted to tell stories! And I wanted that white fringed jumpsuit My JCS dreams have been realized twice before as a dancer, once as a choreographer, and now as a director. It has always been my favorite show. I even have the tattoo on my arm to prove it. But there has been something particularly special about experiencing this incredible show from the director’s chair. This cast and crew have taken my crazy fever dream and brought it to life in the most spectacular way. I am in awe of the creativity this company has brought to our show and the love and passion that have gone into making this a production I will always remember. JESUS CHRIST SUPER STAR TIM RICE has worked in music, theatre and films since 1965. With Andrew Lloyd Webber, he wrote Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita and has since collaborated with other distinguished composers such as Elton John (The Lion King, Aida), Alan Menken (Aladdin, King David, Beauty and the Beast), Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson (Chess) and Stuart Brayson (From Here to Eternity). He has also written with Freddie Mercury, Burt Bacharach, Gary Barlow, Marvin Hamlisch and Rick Wakeman, among others. In 2024-5, Tim toured over 30 towns and cities in the UK and Ireland with My Life in Musicals, an evening of his songs from his 60-year career in show business. In 2025, he was reunited with Andrew Lloyd Webber to write original songs for the comedy play Sherlock Holmes and the 12 Days of Christmas, while Chess returned to Broadway for its first new production there in nearly 40 years. He was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1994 and like Elton, Andrew and Alan, has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony – achieving “EGOT” status. Tim’s interests beyond the entertainment business include boxer dogs, astronomy and cricket, and to indulge the latter he founded his own team in 1973. He is a patron of the Bob Willis Fund (along with Bob Dylan), an enterprise inspired by the late great English cricketer, which is dedicated to raising awareness of prostate cancer. Though he has given up spinbowling, he has no immediate plans to retire from show business.

AUTHOR S & CREATOR S ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER has composed the scores of some of the world’s most famous musicals. When Sunset Boulevard joined School of Rock, CATS and The Phantom of the Opera, he equaled Rodgers & Hammerstein’s record of four shows running simultaneously on Broadway. He is one of the select group of artists with EGOT status, having received Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards.In New York, hard on the heels of the Tony Award-winning revival of Sunset Boulevard, Lloyd Webber recently opened Masquerade, which brings audiences closer than ever before to his global phenomenon The Phantom of the Opera, and CATS: The Jellicle Ball, the Harlem Ballroom reimagining of his iconic musical, which recently opened to rave reviews on Broadway. Lloyd Webber owns six London theatres, including the iconic London Palladium and Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Reopened in July 2021, the latter was completely restored and renovated at a cost of over $80 million. His mantra is that every penny of profit made from his theatres is put back into the buildings. Lloyd Webber is passionate about the importance of musical education and diversity in the arts. In Britain, The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation provides 30 performing arts scholarships every year for talented students with financial need and supports a range of projects, such as the Music in Secondary School Trust and commissioning research into diversity in theatre. In the United States, the American Theatre Wing’s Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative provides grant funding directly to under-resourced public schools for their theatre programs and provides scholarships to grade school and university students pursuing studies in theatre. In 2023, Andrew Lloyd Webber partnered with Michael Harrison to produce new productions of existing work and his future musicals. His latest, The Illusionist, will be produced in London in 2027. Andrew Lloyd Webber was knighted in 1992, created an honorary life peer in 1997, and made a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter by King Charles III in 2024.

MEET THE COMPANY Audrey Bendel (she/her) (Dancer) Audrey is excited to be making her Portland Players/Andrew Lloyd Webber debut with a show that means so much to her. She has performed professionally with Ballet Bloom Co. for the past 3 years, as well as with both Dean College and the University of Southern Maine. Previous roles include Columbia (The Rocky Horror Show), The Jester (Little Mermaid), Sophie/Annette (Annie), and several ensemble dance roles. Instagram: @audreybendel

Izzie Brown (she/her) (Dancer) Izzie is newer to community theater this year, and she is so grateful for the opportunity to perform her first musical with Portland Players! This is such a special cast and an unforgettable journey for all of them. She would like to thank her partner and dancer friends for all their support during this creative process.
Colleen Clark (she/they) (Jesus) Colleen Clark is a local vocalist and performer. Their recent theatrical credits include Rebecca in Good Theater’s production of It Shoulda Been You, Maureen in Portland Players’ production of RENT, Sal’s Mom in the Maddy’s Theater production of Blueberries for Sal, and Bella Rose in Good Theater’s production of Desperate Measures. Colleen is thrilled to be working alongside Michael Donovan and this amazing cast and crew. They would like to give special thanks to their partner, Joe Bearor, and their kiddo, August, who inspire them daily.
Gabriel Ben Carling (he/him) (Caiaphas) Ben is honored and grateful to have the opportunity to perform his dream role as Caiaphas, returning to the stage for the first time since high school. Favorite roles have included Fyedka in Fiddler on the Roof at Seacoast Rep, Theseus in
Jessica DeLisle (she/her) (James) Jessica is making her debut at Portland Players, in one of her all-time favorite shows, no less— and it feels like a wish granted. She always hoped she’d be an apostle and knew she’d make it if she tried—but honestly, sharing the stage with her brother Jason 10

Caleb Eugley (he/him) (Pilate) Caleb is thrilled to be returning to Portland Players! Last season, he was seen on stage in Annie, and he directed American Idiot. He’s also performed locally at Lyric Music Theater, Maddy’s Theatre at CMTM, Mad Horse Theatre, and RRCP. Caleb is the Education Coordinator at Royal River Community Players in Yarmouth, where he develops and teaches theater programs for all ages. Up next: Sunday in the Park… at Lyric. Caleb sends immense gratitude to Michael, Rebecca, Viki, the entire cast and creative team, and everyone supporting live theater! He hopes everyone enjoys the show!
Rachael Desmarais (she/her) (Thaddeus) Rachael is delighted to be making her Portland Players debut with such an incredibly talented cast. A NH native, Rachael previously made her Maine stage debut last season in Lyric Music Theater’s SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical as the Mayor of Bikini Bottom. She is thrilled to be performing alongside her husband and thanks him for all his love and support throughout the process as well as their pets Boromir and Bailey for all the cuddles. She hopes everyone enjoys the show! Zachary Desmarais (Apostle John, Guard) Zachary is very excited to be making his Maine acting premiere with Portland Players! His last on-stage appearance was in New Hampshire as Maurice in Beauty and the Beast, but as a middle school music teacher, he has worked with a number of drama programs as both their music and stage director. Adam Gallant (he/him) (Andrew) Adam is thrilled to be making his debut on the Portland Players stage! Usually playing at Biddeford’s City Theater, some of his previous credits include Lt. She is also known around Southern Maine for her performances in Lyric Theater’s 9 to 5 (Ensemble), Portland Players’ Reefer Madness (Mary Lane), and Biddeford City Theater’s Rocky Horror Show (Phantom). Sam Rinaldi (Priest 4) Sam is delighted to return to the stage and share this production with his sister Becky and daughter Sarah. His first show was Here’s Love in 1986, and he last appeared in this production in 1989. A past president of The Portland Players, Sam has enjoyed 40+ years in theater, commercials, film, voiceover, and sound design. Sarah Rinaldi Kennedy (she/her) (Dancer) Sarah is over the moon to be involved in this production of Jesus Christ Superstar! Emma’s latest works include Finding Nemo with Maddy’s Theater, The Green Day Musical: American Idiot with Portland Players, Stellaluna with Maddy’s Theater; Next to Normal, Something Rotten and SpongeBob with Lyric Music Theater. Emma’s favorite roles onstage include Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby, Young Eva in And Then They Came For Me, and Chutney in Legally Blonde. She hopes everyone enjoys the show!
Rachael Schuster (they/she) (Annas) Rachael was just tearing it up as Ben in American Idiot and is thrilled to be back in the Portland area. Rachael can be found in the Midcoast, reading horror and cross-stitching when not making lattes and teaching children to be kind. Favorite roles include Mitch Mahoney, Putnam County Spelling Bee, Waldo Theater; Zee, Faust in the Anthropocene, Snowlion Repertory Company; Mary Bennett, Pride and Prejudice, Heartwood Theater; and Iago, Othello, Salem State University. Rachael sends thanks to family, friends, and the cat who waits patiently at the door each night.
Jess Wedell (he/they) (Peter) Jess is superstar-struck to be returning for his second show at Portland Players, and ecstatic for it to be in his very favorite show! MEET THE PRODUCTION CREW Michael Donovan (he/him) Director Michael is so proud to be directing Jesus Christ Superstar, in this his 23rd year of directing for the Portland Players. Previous directing credits include Grease, Titanic, The Producers, Mamma Mia!, The Crucible, Steel Magnolias, Jekyll & Hyde, Les Misérables, Hairspray, 9 to 5: The Musical, and many more. Michael is a proud member of The Portland Players Hall of Fame and will soon be costuming Sunday in the Park with George at Lyric Music Theater. Michael wishes to thank this cast and crew for a truly amazing experience.

Most recently, she received the BroadwayWorld Maine Award for Best Choreography for Mamma Mia! Giselle (Gigi) Paquette (she/her) Co-Producer Gigi has worn many hats at Portland Players over the years, including performer, choreographer, director, producer, and mentor. Having studied, taught, performed, and choreographed throughout New England for many years, she currently serves as Vice President of Artistic Development and as Program Creator and Producing Artistic Director of the Young Actors Workshop. Matt Boucher (he/him) - Stage Manager Matt has been working with Portland Players since 2023 in various production team roles, including stage manager, backstage crew, and spotlight operator. Previous shows include Spamalot, Peter and the Starcatcher, Into the Woods, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Annie, and American Idiot. Congratulations to the cast on their wonderful work on this show! Love to Mariam and my chosen family for all their support and encouragement through the years.
Victoria Perreault (she/her) Choreographer Victoria received most of her professional training in Los Angeles and the Bay Area. She filmed a commercial with George Lucas, performed for Tom Hanks, and wrote and directed Amour Du Mal, an original play told through dance. She has taught at San José State University and several studios, with former students including Nick Lazzarini, winner of So You Think You Can Dance. Victoria has received 16
MEET THE PRODUCTION CREW Allison Bistline-East (she/her) Assistant Stage Manager Allison is excited to be working on her second show with Portland Players! Previously, she ran the spotlight for American Idiot and was ASM for a show at Royal River Community Players in Yarmouth. She is thankful to be working with such an amazing team on this show and is so proud of this excellent cast! When not in the theater, you can find her doing agricultural research, baking, or teaching middle schoolers how to play Dungeons & Dragons. Huge thanks to Andrew for putting up with all the late nights and extra dog duties!

Jason (Chachi) Robinson (he/him) Lighting Designer Chachi is back to light another show at Portland Players! He first showed up to help crew Shrek the Musical in 2015 and has lit many shows over the last 11 years, including Titanic, Mamma Mia!, Rent, and We Will Rock You. He is currently serving as VP of Technology for Portland Players. He would like to thank everyone who helps make these productions a reality!
Tim Baker (he/him) - Master Carpenter / Set Designer Tim Baker can’t act, he can’t dance, and you sure don’t want to hear him sing! He enjoys his time at Portland Players building the sets you see before you alongside his very talented team. Tim has served as Master Carpenter for well over 45 productions during the past 15 or so years. He would like to thank Kate and Emily Baker for their support when he sneaks away to Portland Players most weekends. Tim also serves on the Portland Players Board of Trustees and is currently VP of Building and Equipment.
Nathan Whewell (he/him) - Sound Designer Nathan has been an audio engineer since graduating from Husson University in 2017. He has been producing music for artists since 2015 and recently appeared as Will in Portland Players’ production of American Idiot. He is excited to be establishing himself in the Portland theater scene and thanks everyone for coming out and supporting all the incredible talent in our community!
