As we fully come out of hibernation and step into the sun, it’s time for a full refresh. Now that you’ve finished your spring cleaning, it’s time to fill up those shelves again with brand-new fandom must-haves. The Spring 2026 issue of The Pop Insider is packed full of freshly picked finds to reinvigorate your geeky little heart.
It’s a big summer for soccer (or, perhaps, football) fans worldwide, as the World Cup hits North America in July. With the tournament spanning multiple cities across three countries, this World Cup is shaping up to be the biggest yet. And with a big sports tournament comes big sports merch! Flip to page 12 to learn more about how all of the amazing World Cup merch came to be — and what you can get your hands on to show off your team pride.
This year, we’ve introduced The Pop Insider’s Collectors’ Choice Awards. This awards program recognizes excellence in pop culture licensed merchandise and experiences — and YOU helped us pick the winners. Now, after much ado, you can see the winners of the inaugural program starting on page 24.
We know as well as you do that collectibles aren’t the only way to fuel your fandom — you can fully immerse yourself in your favorite fictional worlds. Through home decor or a passion for fashion, you can dress yourself and your home for success in chic, bold ways. Check out ways to transform your home into a fan’s dream world on page 42, and add a touch of artistic flair with stained-glass from Geek Orthodox (page 48). Then, stock your

closet with our favorite spring fashion finds in Flaunt Your Fandom on page 46.
As always, we’ve got the latest news and merch for our favorite little fans in our Pop Junior section, which starts on page 29. We’ll give you the latest scoop on kids’ merch and entertainment and do a deep dive into a multi-generational favorite: Super Mario Bros. Turn to page 32 to see how The Super Mario Galaxy Movie helped bridge the gap between those who met Mario on the NES and those who are meeting him for the first time on the big screen.
Enjoy the new issue! For all the latest merch news, head to thepopinsider.com or follow us @thepopinsider on Instagram and TikTok. ✪

“All The Things She Said” running through your head? Same. The soundtrack behind the fan-favorite series Heated Rivalry is getting two vinyl variants from Milan Records. The Montreal vs. Boston edition (pictured) features two discs, each inspired by the hockey heartthrobs and their team jerseys. Fans can also score the exclusive Icy Inferno edition, a transparent pressing that brings the rink to your record player. You can also snag the album in a two-disc CD set, so you can jam to these techno tunes on your trip to the cottage.
The soundtrack features 30 tracks from the show’s first season, from Feist’s “My Moon My Man” to t.A.T.u.’s “All The Things She Said.” Inside the gatefold, fans can find liner notes from series creator Jacob Tierney, along with a double-sided poster and two collectible cards. Fans can visit milanrecords.shop to preorder the vinyls and CDs now. ✪

Wizards of the Coast launched the first officially licensed Dungeons & Dragons actual-play series, and it’s shaping up to be a critical hit. In the show, Dungeon Masters whisk fans to the mysterious realm of Ravenloft from the game’s latest expansion. Four players have joined the quest — Dispatch star Mayanna Berrin, Forgotten Realms: Tears of Selune’s Christian Navarro, and Neil Newborn and Devora Wilde from Baldur’s Gate III — while Jas mine Bhullar from Dimension 20 and DesiQuest will act as Dungeon Master. The campaign commenced on April 22, with new episodes dropping every week on YouTube. ✪

Renegade Game Studios went full Borant Corp. with a crowdfunding campaign for the Dungeon Crawler Carl Role-Playing Game (RPG) and Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable, a solo and co-op deck-building game.
The Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG includes 30 playable races and a huge class roster with legendary subclasses, as well as physical products like dice sets, a Game Master screen, a character journal, and miniatures. If RPGs aren’t your style, you can still get in on the fun with Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable, a deck-building game in which players explore the first three floors of the World Dungeon in Arcade or Campaign mode. Players can play on their own or with a fellow Crawler, and the game features four difficulty levels for players with different levels of gaming experience.
Both games were fully funded on backerkit.com, and are expected to ship in October. ✪

they’re building [new] albums with their grandkids,” Howarth notes.
This year’s sticker collection is almost double the size of the one sold for the 2022 World Cup. “We’ve had to be really, really targeted and focused on how we engineer the actual album,” Howarth shares. Each team page features space for 20 stickers, including a team badge, a team photo, and 18 star players. At press time, Howarth was in Atlanta deciding which players would be included in the team’s two-page spread.
Fans have even more opportunities to expand their collections through a partnership with Coca-Cola. Panini stickers are hiding under the labels of marked 20-ounce bottles of Coca-Cola and Coke Zero. Soccer fanatics will have plenty to uncover under those labels; 300 million stickers are available to find in the U.S. and Canada alone. The soda bottles also have QR codes that fans can scan to enhance their digital collections.
Panini America will host events for fans to meet, trade, and swap stickers, fostering community and enabling them to complete collections. Four mobile tour vehicles will make stops at retailers like Target, Walmart, and Dick’s Sporting Goods across the U.S.
The company is also launching the Sticker Swap app that helps track which stickers are missing from your collection and where to find additional trading opportunities. As the tournament inches closer to its start, “We’re going to see
more of that come to fruition,” Howarth says, noting that more opportunities to collect and connect are on the horizon.
Another way for fans to connect is with Monogram International’s Figural Bag Clips ($7.99). The surprise bags, available at major retailers, deliver cartoon-inspired players from all three host countries. “The FIFA World Cup 2026 is a huge opportunity to connect with a global fanbase,” says Alys Dickerson, sales and licensing specialist for Monogram International. “It gives us a great moment to show fans what we can do.”
Monogram International’s art team has carefully considered the details, Dickerson says, committing to the players’ hairstyles, facial hair, and team jerseys. “When a piece is well made and thoughtfully designed, it makes collecting more exciting and becomes a fun extension of the overall World Cup experience for fans,” she says.
Each bag clip collection features 11 players per team, so athletes who may typically receive less fanfare get a moment in the spotlight. “That adds another layer of excitement for fans, especially those looking to collect or track down specific rare players,” Dickerson says.
Through the series, fans can collect as they would with trading cards — plus, they can easily wear their team pride. “We hope fans have fun searching for their favorite players,” she says. “There is
also a great opportunity for trading and sharing collections with friends, which adds another layer of fun.”
Pop Mart’s viral Labubu are also launching before the tournament. The Monsters X FIFA series was released online and in stores in April. It spans several categories, with Vinyl Plush Pendant Keychains ($32.99), Vinyl Plush Dolls ($149.99), and a Lifestyle Collection ($12.99-29.99). “We hope this collection brings joy to athletes and fans,” says Pop Mart Americas’ Head of Licensing Emily Brough, who calls the collection “a milestone moment.” This is the first collection for a stadium series, but Pop Mart hopes it sets the foundation for the future, Brough says.
Fans can upsize their collection with Soccer Funko Pop! Vinyl Figures ($15 each). The collection celebrates three mascots: Maple, the moose from Canada; Zayu, the jaguar from Mexico; and Clutch, the bald eagle from the U.S.
Jason Bischoff, Funko’s vice president of licensing and business development, calls the mascot trio “the perfect intersectionality of fans and culture,” noting that, because he has family in Canada, he is loyal to Maple.
Funko is committed to detail, focusing on nuance, pose, and signature moves. “You’d be surprised how convincing some of them are,” Bischoff says. “Simply, it’s about us doing what we do every day, showing up for fans, but on a bigger stage.”
At home and at the stadium, fans can find comfort in the stress of the game through Jazwares, which transformed the tournament’s mascots into 8-inch Squishmallows ($12.99 each). The company also offers a 10-inch bear ($19.99) and a trophy plush ($9.99). “It made perfect sense to collaborate with FIFA to authentically reach a new global audience through the sport they love — soccer,” says Gerhard Runken, Jazwares’ chief brand officer.
The collection can serve as home decor or accompany fans to games. Jazwares understands the versatility Squishmallows offers. “Softness, style, displayability, and exclusivity are elemental,” he says. “We know authenticity and respect matter.”
The World Cup only takes place every four years, and “this year is going to be massive,” Panini America’s Howarth promises. And, there are options for fans to connect at home and in the soccer community.

“This year is especially historic with three host countries,” Runken notes. “Fans want more than just merchandise with logos — they want memorabilia.” Luckily for them, U.S. Soccer and the companies making souvenirs are up to the task.
“We’re always listening to fans and paying attention to how they want to play,” Baker says, as Hasbro focuses “on new ways to bring people together.”
JT Batson, CEO of the U.S. Soccer Federation, agrees. “We have three ambitions,” he says. “One, we want our teams to win on the world stage. Two, we want everyone who cares about this sport to feel ownership of its future. And three, we want U.S. Soccer to be everywhere.”

Through collectibles and fandom, that may be possible. “It’s about being a part of the moment,” Bischoff says. ✪

He’s starred in two feature films, appeared in more than 200 video games, and takes the spotlight in thousands of merch drops — all this to say: Mario is more than your average plumber. After four decades, Mario continues to hold a special place in families’ hearts. Parents who played Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) are introducing their kids to the mustached hero through Mario Kart World on the Nintendo Switch 2. Between his latest film and the hottest family-friendly merch, this Nintendo icon is setting the bar as a multi-generational brand that’s rated E for everyone.
While known for his rich video game history, Mario became a movie star when he appeared in The Super Mario Bros. Movie on April 5, 2023.

The film, produced by Illumination Entertainment and Nintendo and released by Universal Pictures, gave families a new perspective on the iconic hero. Kids and kidults alike watched their favorite Italian brothers go through a mysterious pipe and enter a magical world. When the brothers were separated, Mario joined Toad, Princess Peach, and Donkey Kong on an epic adventure, featuring unforgettable characters, iconic power-ups, and, of course, go-karts.
And “mamma mia” doesn’t even begin to describe the movie’s box office success. According to Deadline, The Super Mario Bros. Movie amassed more than $31 million on opening day. The film then leveled up by earning $1.3 billion in theaters worldwide.
With such global successes in the box office, it’s clear that Mario and his friends were reaching new heights — or should we say, new galaxies?
On April 1, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie blasted off into theaters nationwide. The highly anticipated sequel follows the Mario brothers as they travel into outer space to face a vengeful Bowser Jr., who seeks to free his father. Along with familiar faces, fans saw video game characters like Yoshi, Princess Rosalina, Wart, Birdo, and Honey Queen. As a surprise to gamers, Fox McCloud, Pikmin, and Mr. Game and Watch also joined the big screen fun.
While Mario and his friends explored new galaxies, families also found themselves in an out-of-this-world experience. Outside of cinemas, fans were seeing stars as they explored a whole new galaxy of Super Mario merchandise.
As fans have seen for decades, the Mushroom Kingdom easily takes a warp pipe off the screens and into the toy
aisles — and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is no exception.
JAKKS Pacific’s toy collection for the first film brought kids a range of action figures, plush, and pull-back karts. And for the sequel, the company 1-Upped itself with more collectibles that have fans hooked on the brothers.
“We wanted to add the most play value to every product to ensure the toys are fun for both kids and adults,” says Jeremy Sueper, vice president of marketing at JAKKS Pacific. “Our creative team did a really great job of coming up with new ways to go above and beyond what we’d done for the first movie.”
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie toy collection features a new wave of action figures, vehicles, plush, playsets, and collectibles. JAKKS’ action figures are the real superstars, featuring a bigger scale, premium paint finishes, and more articulation. Kids can re-create their favorite moments with every toy and collectible as they bring this world from theater screens to toy boxes.
“In the trailer, Mario and Luigi are riding motorcycles through the desert,
pyramid. There’s also a Yoshi Egg Playset, inspired by the scene in which the brothers find Yoshi inside a warp pipe.”
And that’s not the only Yoshi egg out there: Spin Master has a toy that really brings the lovable green guy out of his shell. Hatchin’ Yoshi became a viral hit on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok in February, instantly gaining millions of views, comments, and fan reactions. David Voss, executive vice president of design and development for Spin Master, explains that this toy features a “surprise reveal, nurturing aspects, and interactive play that younger kids immediately understand.”
Hatchin’ Yoshi pairs the iconic character with Spin Master’s Hatchimals technological magic to provide a unique unboxing experience for kids. The spotted egg makes different sounds and movements, ramping up the excitement before the character even appears. Kids can also play with Yoshi after he hatches by patting his nose, petting his head, shaking him, and talking to him. With more than 50 unique sounds and phrases, this Yoshi creates new galactic adventures
Wheels Mario Wheelie Motocross R/C Vehicle. This Mario Kart-worthy R/C performs tricks with a simple press of the button on the remote. Mario even leans and tilts his head with every turn, adding realistic details to kids’ imaginative play. Collectors can expect more Hot Wheels x Mario vehicles and playsets when the collection launches this fall.
The playroom is not the only place that received a Mario makeover. Characters and themes from the movie also stocked families’ fridges and pantry shelves through cosmic collaborations.
General Mills helps families experience a taste of the Super Mario Galaxy through its popular brands. The Lucky Charms Strawberry Cereal kicks off morning adventures with galactic marshmallows featuring planets and stars. Snacktime gets colorful strokes from Bowser Jr.’s paintbrush with limited-edition Fruit Roll-Ups flavors like Strawberry Blast, Tropical TieDye, and Blue Razzberry. And for dessert, families can indulge in Pillsbury’s Ready to Bake Sugar Cookie

waters, featuring three movie-inspired flavors, including Meteor Melon, Cosmic Swirl, and Dragonfruit Stardust. When families chill these beverages, they’ll reveal the color-changing Lumas on the cans, creating a stellar suprise.

that align beautifully with Lush’s mission to bring innovative, yet planet-friendly products to customers.”

Warping from kitchens to bathrooms, Lush also brought galaxy-scented goods to families’ bathtime routines, giving a whole new meaning to meteor showers with its Super Mario Galaxy collection.
“With this 12-piece bath, body, shower, and scent collection, fans can powerup their bathroom game,” says Lush’s Head of Collaborations Kalen Brinkworth.
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie captures imaginations and wonder — themes
Fans can lather up with items like the Yoshi Egg Bath Bomb, which reveals one of four hidden shower gummies, or the Protect The Galaxy Shower Gel, featuring a celestial blend of blueberry, rose, and apple aromas. Between characterinspired shower gels and body soaps fit for a princess, this collection offers fans cosmic cleanses in a fresh way that hits multiple senses.
Old Spice also helps families stay fresh through its limited-edition fragrance collection. Cosmic Quest offers a clean scent complemented by sweet citrus
notes, while Brooklyn Bounce is bursting with hints of exotic fruits and florals. With promises of 24/7 odor protection, grownup Mario fans can smell like a hero.
Kids may know Mario through his movies and 3D platformer games, but parents know this pop-culture icon from the 1985 NES video game Super Mario Bros. Many adults still remember the 8-bit journeys they had in this side-scrolling title — and that nostalgia continues to fuel Mario’s latest adventures for the next generation of fans.

personal collection of Mario games and memorabilia spanning the last 40 years. His collection is physical proof that the Super Mario brand is steadfast, long-lasting, cross-generational, and — clearly — here to stay. Focusing on home console and computer releases, the dedicated superfan has amassed more than 780 Nintendo collectibles and video games, with Mario titles featuring in more than half of the collection. Bagley prides himself on “the uniqueness and depth of my Mario Museum, presented from a raw, fan’s perspective.”
Born of that deep-rooted nostalgia, the Mario Museum features numerous gaming titles and rare merchandise. Instead of collecting everything in the market, Bagley curates his collection based on “rarity, quality, and storytelling.” The Mario Museum also features a mix of Nin tendo’s history since its founding in 1889,

“The movie merchandise is always really high quality, and I have items from the first movie, including poseable figures and the Hot Wheels Plumber Van [from Mattel],” Bagley shares. “It’s great to see a new generation of Mario fans appreciate the franchise as much as I do.”
From Super Mario Bros. to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the mustached Italian plumber continues to be a family favorite for a simple yet important

reason: Mario teaches people how to have fun, regardless of age. Everyone has the chance to escape reality and warp themselves into an exciting adventure, whether it’s jumping on goombas in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, racing on rainbow roads in Mario Kart 8, or watching the brothers save Brooklyn in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
“It all begins with the video games, and how they are carefully crafted to suit all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a novice or a hardcore gamer, you’re able to take part and find the right level of challenge,” Bagley explains. “Mario means a great deal to so many people because they’ve grown up with it, and during times of turmoil, it offers simple fun and escapism.”

From video games to movies to merchandise, it’s clear Mario still has more excitment awaiting beyond the Mushroom Kingdom — and fans of all ages can’t wait to see what’s next for their favorite Italian plumber. ✪

For some fans, being part of a fandom doesn’t end when the credits roll or the park closes — it follows them home. With screen-accurate replicas and licensed home decor, fans can bring their favorite stories into their living spaces. Think of franchises that fully immerse audiences in their worlds, such as Wicked, Bridgerton, or Harry Potter. These rich stories drive fandom decor, bringing magic into everyday rooms.
Collectors and decorators can approach fandom-inspired spaces in various ways. Some fill larger rooms with bold, eye-catching pieces, creating a campy, immersive experience. Others work with smaller spaces by incorporating DIY projects that offer a more laid-back, subtly integrated feel. Regardless of scale or style, each approach captures a sense of wonder, offering an escape from reality and a meaningful expression of fandom.
For many eagle-eyed fans, bringing a fandom home means bringing exactly what they see on screen into their interiors. “A lot of it is a bit of an immersion,” says Matthew McCarty, associate creative director at The Bradford Exchange. “You want to be a part of this world, this fandom you love. And you want it to be correct, too; it’s definitely a thing.”
That drive for authenticity is why many fans are willing to pay extra for screen-accurate goods.
The Bradford Exchange’s Harry Potter Illuminated Platform 9 ¾ Clock is the perfect example of the type of homegood replica many fans want. “It’s literally the platform clock from the movie, more or less,” McCarty says, “A digital clock wouldn’t have made sense for Harry Potter. So I want to make sure, too, that it’s talking right with the fandom.”
At times, fans want more than just a few key pieces; they seek a wider range of items to fully bring a space to life. To meet that demand, The Bradford Exchange creates products that may not have appeared on screen, but still extend the universe into fans’ homes.
look like? … It balances what we call this left-brain, right-brain thinking, where one side is, ‘Well, I need something practical. I need some thing functional.’ And the other side’s a little bit more, ‘You’re fun and creative,’ and it balances those two sides to justify making a certain purchase.” What unites both approaches, whether it’s screenaccurate replicas or newly designed decor inspired by a franchise, is a shared emphasis on innovation that meets fans’ high expectations.
“What definitely is more fun to bring to it is kind of taking the everyday functionality of something — say a lamp or a clock — and doing it in that spin of something you love,” McCarty says. “For example, there might not be a clock in Game of Thrones, but what would that

During the COVID-19 pandemic, fans turned to personalizing their spaces with fandom-fueled pieces amid the mundane, extended periods spent at home. Julian Montoya, president at The Noble Collection, the first company to create Harry Potter wand replicas, explains this shift: “All that money that you were putting into going out to dinner or buying snacks or going to movies, you were able to put it in some place that made you feel good.”

Echoing McCarty’s point about paying for authenticity, Montoya explains how spending on quality pieces delivers that sense of joy — one of The Noble Collection’s best-sellers is a $395 Harry Potter Chess Set. While technically a game, this high-end chess set doubles as a Potter-themed decorative piece. At the heart of fandom-fueled decor is that sense of nostalgia: “As it’s no longer uncool to be a nerd, it just made [collecting as adults] easier … Our fandom is fueled by what makes us happy, what brings us joy, and these products are just ways to connect in that way.”
The Noble Collection also makes a point to seek direct input from fans. “We do a lot of fan engagement through our social media,” Montoya explains. “We’ve even tapped into their fandom to help us pick which SKUs to make.” Fans have weighed in on products ranging from a diorama-style Lord of the Rings chess set to the long-requested cursed necklace replica from Harry Potter and the HalfBlood Prince.
Becoming part of a fandom can be a lifelong experience, as is the case with Carla Rodriguez, known online as @giojammies. Rodriguez, who docu-

ments her Harry Potter-inspired home transformations to her more than 263,000 Instagram followers, first began her home/fandom renovation 10 years ago with a themed nursery. A die-hard Potter fan since childhood, and now a wife and mom of four, Rodriguez has formed genuine connections with others through sharing her journey online.
“The best part of being in the fandom is the people,” Rodriguez says. “We find each other because we all like Harry Potter, but not all of us collect replicas, and not all of us have Harry Potter rooms … Some of us enjoy going to the theme parks, and we will go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando together.” These meaningful connections influence how she decorates her home. Rodriguez’s most recent project is what she calls the Harry Potter “library of her dreams.” Rodriguez says, “It’s so therapeutic to me … You get lost in the midst of motherhood. So having this for myself to stay busy and creative, that is mine, and I can only share that with other people who also love the story … It’s definitely something I take a lot of pride in.” The library, which doubles as her

home office, is a living and functional part of her home.
Throughout the years of decorating her Harry Potter-themed spaces, Rodri guez has purged her collection multiple times and continually reimagines her designs. Since Rodriguez has two houses — one in Puerto Rico and one in Texas — she also splits up her collection.
“Houses are in constant movement,” she says. “Being able to come in here and just rearrange things if I receive them or buy something new and want to make space for it … All those things give you a chance to turn off the world for a little bit and just make your house a home.”

hutch is now in the room, repainted and accented with gold details.

Fandom-inspired spaces don’t have to stay personal passion projects — they can become love letters to other fans. Annie Williams, known by her more than 479,000 followers on Instagram as @champagne.chaos, designed a version of Glinda’s Shiz University room from the film Wicked for her 7- (almost 8-) year-old daughter, Kate. Re-creating that look of magical grandeur, however, posed a challenge: “‘How do you re-create that in your home without spending a ton of money?’” Williams asked herself.
The solution: DIY. “The biggest piece was probably creating what looked like wood because to do that all in a wood trim would just be so expensive,” Williams says. “I used curved MDF pieces I found on Amazon; I used 3D printed pieces to make the arch in [Glinda’s] little window nook.” Working within a smaller space also created some limitations, but for Williams, the creative flexibility made it even more exciting. “I think some people probably don’t need it to be as accurate as I was going for,” she laughs. Williams feels like being a fan is a part of her personal identity, “probably more so than I’d like to admit,” she says. “Because I am older, I feel like that part I should have grown out of … But looking back, I think it’s always been a part of me.” Williams’ family loved The Wizard of Oz, and after she saw the Broadway musical “Wicked” and later the film inspired by the show, it became a point of cross-generational connection between her and her daughter. That familial bond even made its way into the Shiz space: Williams’ grandmother’s wooden cabinet
An important part of Williams’ design process was ensuring the room remained livable for her daughter, who wanted a more grown-up, sophisticated space. The design of Kate’s room balances magic and maturity, as Williams made clear she “doesn’t want to struggle selling the house.” Not every fan wants to undertake a full DIY transformation or spend years collecting replicas. To meet that demand, legacy brands offer high-end licensed collections that bring a low-key fandom feel into the home.

Companies like Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, and Insight Editions are stepping into the fandom market in more subtle and chic ways, launching licensed collections with details inspired by — but not boldly touting — popular franchises.
With Pottery Barn’s Wicked collection, fans can secure Glinda pink or Elphaba green pieces, including candle holders, duvet covers, glassware, and more.
Williams Sonoma’s Bridgerton collections bring the Regency era to modern day, with trinkets like diffusers and vases, and big-ticket items like a picnic basket priced at $349.95.
Lovers of films, home design, and literature can also bring the magic home with coffee table books. Insight Editions focuses on merging fandom with physical literature, turning pop-culture phenomena into thoughtfully designed books.
“Our approach to publishing is to make every book collectible,” says Insight Editions CEO Raoul Goff. “From our tiny and mini book series to our visual histories, which often include prop replicas, art prints, and signature cards signed by
the filmmakers and often the actors. We want our books to feel special and to be keepsakes that will grow in value.”
When deciding which franchises to tap into, Goff says, “We try to create books that fans are proud to exhibit in addition to books that help a fan celebrate the worlds they love. We look at each project for its unique aesthetic value and create a design that complements and echoes the creative departments behind the film. We have high production values for our covers, making them conversation pieces.” For fans of films like Frankenstein (2025) or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), these books offer a new way to experience familiar worlds.
Fandom is personal, and so is decorating a home. The two can go hand in hand, transforming everyday spaces into something wonderful. Projects of any size or budget can come to life when passion anchors the design process, whether through high-quality replicas that evoke feelings of belonging and nostalgia, or decor that blends into everyday spaces. There isn’t one “right” way to express fandom at home. Whether bold or subtle, set in stone or evolving, these spaces reflect not only what people love, but also how they live, building worlds and making space for a little more magic in everyday life. ✪

Stained glass is an art form most traditionally associated with churches and religion, but Geek Orthodox worships at the altar of fandom. Artist Ian Leino heads the small business that has been making stained-glass designs for fans since 2015. That collection now includes licensed artwork based on The Lord of the Rings book trilogy. According to the Department of Medieval Art and the Cloisters at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, stained glass was most popular between the years 1150 and 1500, when artists used it predominantly in the design of churches and cathedrals across Europe. Drawing parallels between communities based on shared religion and those based on shared fandoms, Leino says that he wanted to revive the importance of storytelling within stained glass.
“I wanted to bring some new life to what I felt like was an old medium and to take the importance that stained glass brings and say, ‘This is worthy in our stories, too, for the characters that we’re creating and the modern mythology that we’re making with our books, movies, and games,’ and all that,” he says. “It fills a similar role in many people’s lives, and that felt like a fun way to combine those two things.”
Fans can buy real stained glass artwork from Geek Orthodox, but it is an investment piece that can cost anywhere from $150 to more than $500. However, Geek Orthodox also offers affordable versions of its art with repositionable replica window clings ($15-45).
In 2024, Geek Orthodox started working with Middle-earth Enterprises,

the company that manages the licensing rights to The Lord of the Rings series and J.R.R. Tolkien’s other books (Warner Bros. Discovery manages the licensing rights to the Peter Jackson film trilogy).
“The Lord of the Rings was a foundational fandom for me,” Leino says.
“It’s one of the things that is down at the core of me that other things have built on … My parents read aloud to us at night, and I’ve done the same thing (as an adult). I read them when I was older; I read them to my wife in the evenings. I’ve, of course, seen the movies. It’s a very connected fandom … a lot of nerds like myself have a deep love for that. To take something that I have enjoyed and loved through my whole life, and now to be considered worthy to represent that professionally, is just stunning.”
“Stunning” is an easy word to describe Leino’s artwork. Designs from
Geek Orthodox’s Shire catalog include a suncatcher featuring the iconic green Bag End Hobbit Door, a window cling inspired by the Prancing Pony, and the Fellowship of the Ring in shadow crossing the bridge to leave Rivendell in front of a shining blue waterfall.
Since acquiring the license, the company has managed several successful Kickstarter campaigns and had a presence at both Comic-Con Interna tional: San Diego with TheOneRing.net, a fansite dedicated to The Lord of the Rings since 1999, and its own booth at New York Comic Con.
“A lot of modern fans are pretty discerning and can tell when something is made with love and interest and when something is made because we need to sell so many units this month,” Leino says. “There’s been just a great response. It has been great to talk with fans and to be able to be on both sides of [fandom], to have people who are fans of my work the same way that I am a fan of so many other artists in this area.”
Leino connected with TheOneRing.net through Middle-earth Enterprises, which also licenses to TheOneRing.net for fan events and con merchandise. After seeing his work, TheOneRing.net team offered Geek Orthodox a display area in their booth at SDCC.
“I was just blown away by how gorgeous his work is, both his actual stained glass and then the replica window clings that he makes, which are much more affordable for a lot of people, but they’re still incredibly beautifully made and high quality,” says Kirsten Cairns, COO of TheOneRing.net.
Geek Orthodox is one of many artist-focused small businesses that partner with Middle-earth Enterprises for licensed merch. Fredrica Drotos, director of brand and licensing at Middle-Earth En-
terprises, says that intention is a vital part of any The Lord of the Rings collaboration. A business has to have a good idea and passion for the franchise world; they can’t just be in it for the money.
“Ian is somebody who has a deep passion for the lore,” Drotos says. “In
Geek Orthodox sells licensed stained glass and window clings inspired by The Lord of the Rings. These matching window clings based on Bag End start at $15. | Source: Geek Orthodox
meeting him, we got a sense of him as somebody with deep integrity. The fact that he was coming to his appreciation for the lore through stained glass was very interesting. We’d never had a stained-glass artist approach us, but it is such an old art form, it is so tactile, and it requires so much attention to detail. It seemed to us to be a perfect sort of element for exploration and really unique.”

Middle-earth Enterprises and The Lord of the Rings fans also agree that Geek Orthodox and other smaller licensees that make unique, artistic merch hold the true spirit of Tolkien.
“I think that [Tolkien] would enjoy seeing the creativity of people who really are into and admire his realm,” Cairns says. “I don’t think he’d love mass merchandising. Don’t get me wrong, I have bought my share of mass merchandise in the past, and there are many things that I absolutely love from bigger companies, but what you get from these individuals is an authentic creativity that comes from a place of passion,” she goes on.
The Lord of the Rings is not the only license that Geek Orthodox turns into stained glass. Leino also teamed up with Tycoon Games to create artwork for the Everdell tabletop game series. The game features fantastical creatures that live in harmony together — the perfect imagery to go with Geek Orthodox’s stainedglass style.
Dan Yarrington, founder and CEO of Tycoon Games, first interacted with Geek Orthodox as a fan buying Leino’s artwork on T-shirts and window clings. He also happens to own several custom designs made by Geek Orthodox inspired by his favorite fandoms, including Doctor Who, Star Trek, and more.
“I actually was joking that I had to buy another house because I’m out of windows now,” Yarrington says.

From there, Leino and Yarrington’s relationship has developed into a professional friendship, with Yarrington giving Geek Orthodox advice on running Kickstarter campaigns and selling each other’s merch on their respective websites.
“They’ve been great to work with,” Yarrington says. “I definitely highly recommend them. I know they’re looking to expand into some of what I call ‘the geek library’ of stuff, the nostalgia. For those of us who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, getting back to that classic era. There are a lot of realms to be done there.”
Geek Orthodox’s journey into fandom may have kicked off 11 years ago, but its
adventure is just getting started. Earlier this year, the company was named the winner of The Pop Insider’s first-ever Collectors’ Choice Awards Underdog Award. (Editor’s note: See page 24 for a full winners’ list.) The company is also working on deals with new licenses, something that is only possible because Middle-earth Enterprises, Tycoon Games, and other companies and mentors took a chance on Leino and Geek Orthodox.
“It’s important that people know the difficulty of this type of thing,” Leino says. “As an artist, I was trying to get into licensing, and most of the time I got rejections, but the thing that I heard even more was silence. It’s hard to get noticed. It is very important to persevere. It takes
getting that first opportunity, which is a lot of luck and a lot of tenacity.”
Geek Orthodox has traveled through the Shire and Everdell, and its unique art style will keep new fans joining their ongoing journey. ✪
