Zieta Studio We create objects of desire out of metal. We deform metal from flat membranes into three-dimensional forms. We give our objects a utilitarian dimension and still allow them to be art, a manifesto of our fascination with the material. These are sculpture objects, manifesto objects, objects for generations. We are either engineers and technicians who are very sensitive to beauty, or very technologically minded artists. Zieta Studio is a space where technology meets art, and design intertwines with research in materials science and engineering. We are an experimental production studio where we are constantly moving between the virtual world and the real world. We sketch, print, scan, optimize, parametrize, weld, and make dreams come true.

Monomaterial and ultralight future At Zieta Studio, we believe that responsibility begins with the notion of “less is less”. We are guided by minimalism in form and material efficiency at the conceptual level. We create durable, monomaterial, and ultralight objects. We constantly optimize and reduce by working with FiDU technology and parametric design software. We treat the circular economy literally. Most of our objects are entirely made of one material, which facilitates full recycling and reintroduction of a new piece of sheet metal into circulation. We work with “smart” metals—steel, copper, and aluminium—which can be infinitely reprocessed without significant loss of quality. FiDU technology enhances these materials, optimizing manufacturing and minimizing waste. Our objects are hollow inside. As a result, they are lightweight and generate energy savings during transportation. The packaging follows suit: recycled grey cardboard, printed with ecological black ink. Our ultralightness also manifests itself in the virtual dimension. Designing flat, we brilliantly reduce data consumption. Using our iconic Plopp stool as an example, its standard 2.5D model consumes 16 kB of memory, while an identical design developed in a 3D model would need as much as 142 GB. We believe in an ultralight future. We reject the over-large, over-scaled world in favour of tailored, custom-made metal structures. Our bottom-up approach and in-house production give us full control of the consumption of materials and energy, enabling ultralight constructions tailored to specific requirements, designed to last for generations. The future lies in reduction. We live in the future. We care about the future.

Blown with love FiDU is the name of our proprietary technology, derived from the German Freie Innendruck Umformung, meaning “free inner pressure forming”. This innovative method allows us to “inflate” steel into three-dimensional forms—hollow, lightweight, and incredibly durable. We begin by laser-cutting shapes from flat metal sheets, welding them along the edges, and then blowing air inside. At that moment, the material begins to reveal its properties, transforming into a spatial form with unique, organic irregularities. We call this process a “controlled loss of control”. Bionics serves as a key inspiration for us—it is our encyclopaedia. FiDU technology itself mirrors the process in which a dragonfly extends its wings, pumping body fluid into narrow channels within the wing tissue, causing them to expand and take shape. We apply a similar principle to metal, a process we call “volumetric expansion”. Our steel objects expand not only in volume but also linearly. Long, resilient, load-bearing profiles emerge from tightly coiled spirals, much like a growing plant. The first large-scale demonstration of FiDU profiles’ potential was the Blow & Roll installation presented by Oskar Zięta in 2010 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, where the world’s first rolled steel profile was unveiled. Through our ongoing exploration of metal’s properties, we have developed the FiDU Alphabet, a lexicon of diverse solutions that form the foundation for creating new objects, products, and technological applications across design, art, and industry—and hopefully one day in space.

Mirrored dialogue with surroundings Zieta Studio’s mirrors enter into a reflective dialogue with spaces, embracing and amplifying the contexts around them. Oko, Rondo, Tafla, Sonar and other pieces from our collections are three-dimensional mirror sculptures made of stainless steel polished to a high gloss or optionally covered in colour, turning them into truly magical objects of desire. Zieta Studio objects transgress the border between art and technology and reflect Oskar Zięta’s research on the physical qualities of steel. Their uneven surfaces with artistic deformations provoke our eyes, forcing us to look at reality from a different perspective. Optically subtle, they encompass a cutting-edge technique of treating metal in which sustainability plays a key role. They are sculpture-like mirrors and mirror-like sculptures. tafla O Tafla steel mirrors can be perceived as just that—mirrors—but they also tell a story about the evolution of a drop of water, and how it changes shape, from rounded dew to the angular edges of glacier shelves. Strong character and deep colour Mirrors from the Gradient series are made of stainless steel, polished to a mirror finish and covered with a special lacquer, creating on their surface a unique composition of colours with exceptional depth and unparalleled reflections. Colourization of smooth surfaces is not an easy task. Research on dying techniques and selecting the proper materials took long months. Numerous trials and tests resulted in mastering a formula of proper saturation, adhesion and durability. A special painting technique allows us to apply a proper coat and create a colourful gradient.

Objects to sit on The chair is one of the leading symbols of design. This will certainly be confirmed by students who face the challenge of designing a stable seat. Manifesting his many years of research into the properties of metal in the form of Plopp, Oskar Zięta conquered the world design scene with his debut at Salone.Satellite in Milan in 2007. To this day, thanks to his proprietary method of forming steel with internal pressure (FiDU), Oskar Zięta and his Zieta Studio design team create sensory-provoking object/sculptures. chippensteel The Chippensteel chair is a merger of many experiments, prototypes and design processes pursued since Zieta’s early studies. G-Table’s metal base, which is also available in a variety of options, is made of parabolic forms. It is reminiscent of plants or roots, which symbolize constant change and harmony. Hence, the diverse structure of the G-Table alludes to natural forms and processes. By modifying features in the software, we can generate tailored parametric arches with no limits of scale. In general, the software allows us to create the basis for miniature models as well as huge art forms and structures. We are open to experimenting with scale and sizes to achieve a diversity of G-interpretations.

The Morph Table takes inspiration from the changing yet always optimized geometry of tree branches. Similar to organic forms flowing and seamlessly transforming one into another, its table legs start from an optimized support point on the floor and then branch out and organically morph into the tabletop. Tales against the wall Zieta Studio’s series of small wall-mounted tables was created in response to various room layouts. These consoles serve as a compositional frame for the other Zieta objects. Oskar Zięta extends the term “console” to include its architectural meaning as well. Traditionally, a console is a structural and decorative element, often a richly carved support for sculptures or cornices. These two definitions of a console intriguingly merge to narrate the story of material stabilization and the optimization of FiDU production technology.

Crystals Kap’s form is dedicated to achieving perfect geometrical shapes, later deformed in FiDU technology. It frames unique OLED light source properties into the continuous narrative of the kaleidoscopic Crystals objects as well as Oskar Zięta’s public sculptures. Crystals Kap’s hypnotic metal surfaces curve the light rays, resulting in an unrepeatable sense of composed illumination.

led mirrors The Zieta LED Mirrors curate ambient and artistic experiences, both as a story of reflections and a striking wall decoration. These metal mirrors resemble living artworks or bas-reliefs, their dimensions shifting with the space, viewing angle, time of day, and contexts. They illuminate the unique properties of steel deformation—qualities of metal objects whose polished surfaces refract every light beam, every nuance. These ultralight, monomaterial mirror sculptures reflect, refract, and emit light, creating dynamic visual effects.

LED MIRRORS

Advanced studies of light The design of the Zieta LED mirror lighting system was born from a deep fascination with reflections. We have developed custom lighting strips for our signature steel wall objects—Rondo, Tafla, and Oko. Dedicated LED profiles are elegantly curved and positioned behind the metal mirrors, imparting an entirely new dimension to their meanings. The mirrors’ backlighting works in a tuneable colour temperature range. This makes the spectacle of wall impressions addictive and complete.

mira This subtle wall object serves a decorative purpose, drawing the eye with its polished metal surface. It lures the observer in, only to surprise them with its full-fledged function as a sconce.

MIRA

The third eye of steel This object unmistakably evokes admiration for the circles’ form of a mirror—a form that becomes the soul of any space. Mira highlights both the simplicity and the depth of meaning and interpretation found in the shape of a circle. The wall lamp is an evolution enhancing its ability to reflect light and enchant with its narrative. Mira comes equipped with a dedicated mounting and lighting panel, transforming it into a statement of both form and function.

FINGERPRINT

Metal wall signature A large-scale trace of somebody’s presence on the wall, a shiny parasite, a remnant of a natural force captured in a moment. The Fingerprint sculpture by Oskar Zięta is an eye-catching element of the entrance hall in a private residence. Its scale and character match the vast interior as well as the finishing materials used in it, such as brass and gilding. Thanks to the use of thermally coloured stainless steel in various shades of gold, Fingerprint complements the minimalist and sophisticated style of the space.

TAJDO

The art of partition The architectural form of Tajdo is inspired by the regularity of tides. It is an innovative, semi-transparent partition wall or decorative element that complements the aesthetics of unique interiors. Tajdo is a symbol of movement and fluidity. It refers to the gravitational interaction between the earth, the moon, and the sun. It functions in the form of steel profiles, always configured individually. This open-work sculpture is found in the iconic Raffles Europejski Warsaw, a historic luxury hotel designed by Enrico Marconi, opened in 1857 and reconstructed in 2018.
