On the western edge of the province, Jasło is the pearl of the Low Beskids, with an array of museums showcasing the town's rich heritage and traditions. From there you are only a short distance from Krosno - known for its glassmaking and oil industry heritage - en route to Sanok, the unofficial 'capital' of the Polish Carpathians. Sanok boasts the proverbial 'castle on the hill,' inside which you'll find a large collection of paintings by famed native son Zdzisław Beksiński. Meanwhile, the Museum of Folk Architecture composed of over 150 historic wooden structures dating from the 17th-20th centuries - is essentially its own small town, exuding nostalgic charm. Next town over is Zagórz and its mysterious monastery ruins, which lead you directly into the beautiful, beguiling Bieszczady Mountains.

Podkarpackie is known for its stunning landscapes and ethnocultural diversity, but the region's many small towns - each with their own history, character and attractions - should also be of interest. Located in southern Poland between overpopulated Lesser Poland (Małopolska) to the west, Ukraine to the east, and the Carpathian Mountains to the south, Podkarpackie's lack of major urban centres (okay, Rzeszów - 15th-largest city in Poland - we see you) actually gives the region provincial appeal and makes it perfect for travellers who prefer a slower pace and deeper immersion in local culture.

If you use administrative capital Rzeszów as your starting point, the famous palace in Łańcut is the perfect pit stop on the way to Przeworsk and Jarosław - small, quiet towns where beautiful architecture abounds, before a longer stay in Przemyśl - the province's 2nd-largest city, with a bounty of attractions, including the largest fortification system in Europe east of Verdun.

A mystical land in the heart of Europe. A mysterious mountain massif, hiding natural wonders and the rich diversity of nature. A place where, among peaceful valleys and shady forests, the East meets the West. Multiculturalism, authenticity, reverence towards nature, and a sense of grandeur - these are the pillars of CARPATHIA, the flagship project of Euroregion Karpacki (Carpathian Euroregion - the oldest and largest cross-border structure in the Carpathian Mountains). An innovative initiative to better integrate and enhance the tourist economies of this unique international region, CARPATHIA is home to territorial and thematic sub-brands, including UNESCO, CITIES, ACTIVE and CULTURE, that invite engagement from people across the globe. The mission of CARPATHIA is universal, but also intensely personal. The slogan, ‘Listen to yourself,’ proposes the opportunity for a spiritual transformation through contact with Carpathian spaces. The Low Beskids, Bardejov, Bukovina and Saris are just some of the key places where the CARPATHIA project interacts with the strong authenticity, richness and vibrancy of its inhabitants and landscapes. Together with the Carpathian Convention and partners from the Carpathian countries, we are creating a destination of global relevance. CARPATHIA - the international mark of Carpathian quality - calls explorers, tourists and investors to discover this inspiring region. See you here soon… The CARPATHIA Team

Jasło
This modest town sits at the heart of the Low Beskid mountain range at the intersection of three rivers, surrounded by natural beauty. Most likely established in the 1100s, Jasło had grown into a settlement of economic importance by the 1300s, and continued to prosper through the Renaissance era, before falling on hard times soon after. Although it seemed to be on the rebound in the late 19th century, Jasło suffered greatly during WWII; at the war’s end its residents were forced to leave, and the Nazis first plundered, then utterly destroyed the town, after which it was rebuilt. Jasło is today known for its vineyards and referred to as the ‘Capital of Polish Wine.’ The area’s biggest and most important attraction is Carpathian Troy, just outside Jasło in Trzcinica. Located on the site of an early Bronze Age hillfort, this 8ha open-air archeological park includes a modern exhibition area, observation tower, and reconstructions of an Otomani village from 3500 years ago, and a fortified Slavic settlement from the 9th century.
