Twenty-one years ago, Marine Corps veteran Shakuur and New York City school aide Inaya met, got married, and started a family. Throughout the years, they embarked on various business ventures and changed careers multiple times, but they always felt that they were brought together to create something greater for the world. Ten years into their marriage, they began to dream of opening a business that would provide customers with products that genuinely benefited the community. They later migrated to the Poconos. With Shakuur’s 25 years of experience as a powerlifter and personal trainer, and Inaya’s work as a medical assistant, health consciousness became a shared value for them. After fifteen years of pursuit, Taqwa Culture was finally established!
A Tree, a Chef, a Dishwasher and the Rest is
The “Willow Tree” was planted in 1955 after the historic flood washed away a maple. The expected life is 35 years, with much loving care and preservation this one lived till 70! The tree showed its appreciation in the end falling into the creek instead of on the restaurant. The caretakers, Kat and Goerge met in the kitchen, he the #1 graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute and an ordained minister, she a dishwasher… kismet! Kat quickly moved up the company ladder and they both have been great stewards of the restaurant and the tree for 40 years! - and the rest, as they say, is history.

WHAT YOU NEED: The liveries will supply the canoe, kayak, raft, tube, paddles and life jackets. You need to bring clothing and swimwear dependent on time of year and weather. Food and water depending on length of trip. Water tight bags, towels, change of clothes, suntan lotion, camera, binoculars, water guns, water goggles, fishing gear.
GOOD TO KNOW: The Delaware is usually very clear. Bring water goggles or mask and even a snorkel – there’s lots to see underwater!
WE RECOMMEND
If you like to fish, the Delaware is renowned for catching the best fighting fresh water fish; the small mouth bass. We suggest a “weedless” brown/green rubber worm.

The Pocono Mountains have some of the most beautiful s in the Eastern United States. Pennsylvania’s two highest waterfalls are right here in the Pocono’s; Raymondskill Falls and Dingmans Falls.
BUTTERMILK FALLS

A spectacular waterfall tumbles over the rocks right next to the road. Long ago, Buttermilk Falls Road was a secluded country lane without much traffic. Check out the impressive stone footbridge. next to the falls.
TUMBLING WATERS

In its 3.0 mile loop this trail has it all – an overlook of the Delaware River Valley, Tumbling Waters waterfall, remnants of farms, hemlock forest, mixed forest, a pine plantation, and two ponds. Over nine miles of trail can be connected together in the PEEC area.

Dingmans Falls is the second highest falls in the state, with a plunge of 130 feet. In heavy spring runoff, there is no way to get to the end of the boardwalk without getting drenched by spray. The boardwalk trail passes by a thin horsetail cascade called Silverthread Falls.

Waterfall is 1.4 miles from trailhead. Enjoy a hike over rolling hills and through hemlock and mixed hardwood forests as you make your way to Hackers Falls. This waterfall has a fan shape as it slides across a steep, but short, drop.

Raymondskill is the tallest waterfall in PA. If you add the steps together, it is only a few feet shorter than Niagara Falls. A five minute walk from the parking lot will lead you to the falls. The lower trail is about a half-mile long (one way), and will bring you down by switchbacks to the Raymondskill Creek.

Asa Packer Mansion Museum
Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway
Ride our vintage coaches built as early as 1917, pulled by diesel engines. The 16 mile narrated round-trip follows the Lehigh River over bridges into the Lehigh Gorge State Park. High-rising cliffs, mountain scenery, and wildlife surround the train along the forested route.

Asa Packer was an American businessman who pioneered railroad construction, was active in Pennsylvania politics, and founded Lehigh University. He served two terms in the United States House of Representatives.
The Harry Packer Mansion, up the hill from the Asa Packer Mansion was the inspiration for the Haunted Mansion in Walt Disney World!

The original "Log Cabin" was constructed in 1934 from native spruce, harvested entirely from the surrounding woods. Known for many years as The Log Cabin, this rustic mountain lodge was a boarding house for hunters and other outdoorsmen. Hearty PA Dutch Style meals were served.
In 1979, the log cabin was sold to Ed Murphy and Bill Lauff renamed "Murphy's Loft", a play on the two surnames. Murphy’s Loft opened September 7, 1979. In 1995, a major renovation was completed, which added a glass dining room, outdoor bar and deck, and a swimming pool to the existing structure.
After 40 years, Murphy’s Loft and the Fern Ridge Motel are still owned and operated by the Lauff family. We embrace tradition, community and family here at the Loft and we try to reflect those ideals in every aspect of our operation. Angeline Gilroy, owner and chef of Angels Café, is pictured above with two of her many homemade freshly prepared delicacies.
For 29 years in business servicing the tri-state area Angel has been cooking up great meals for breakfast and lunch in her historic building on Main Street in downtown Stroudsburg. Besides those incredible quiche and crab cakes, Angel serves up for lunch great sandwiches, wraps, burgers and salads. Kamil & Klaudia grew up together working in their family’s Polish deli businesses. They both knew someday they would leave their family’s home and start their own business. What’s unique about their story is they did it together. Not only do they share a business they also share a home - that’s commitment to the partnership! It’s working great for them and the Poconos. Klaudia is, as they say, the “front man” and Kamil is more “behind the scenes”. They both bring a lifetime of family expertise and a joyful friendly spirit to Biedronka. You will feel that every time you walk in when you hear “Dzień Dobry!” That’s a warm Polish greeting “Hello & Welcome!” It’s great, and in this case delicious, having a little bit of Poland in the Poconos!

This family business story began at the University of Tampa where Jason and Kelly first met. These two artistic friendly free spirits were a perfect match for each other. In Florida they fell in love but also fell into a large student loan debt. In need of money the couple returned to the Poconos to open a ceramic painting art studio.
It was the ideal career for this affable artistic duo who would really find their passion in helping adults and children of all ages create beautiful and unique artwork.
Over the years the “business” expanded adding mosaics, glass fusion, clay hand building, and canvas painting. The “family” was also looking to expand and for eight long years they tried and tried, then finally Drake was born!
Drake is now fourteen and has been working his way up the corporate ladder at Poke-ANose Pottery. He now runs the Customer Service Department, so stop by and “poke your nose” in and say hello. Better yet stay a while and let this whole family show you how easy and fun it is to “discover your inner artist”!

Thankfully Kathy is very much alive today, however her accidental drowning was the most profound and influential event of her life. In her teenage near death experience she felt a presence guiding her down an illuminated tunnel into perfect light and love. Kathy was euphoric and wanted to continue on that journey but was drawn back “to life” as she was revived. That experience foretold Kathy’s mission in life; guiding and counselling people through life’s inevitable changes. Because of her extensive training and her loving insightful and intuitive approach, Kathy has been helping people for over 40 years!
