Sun Kim opened Samurai Sushi in 2015. He was a bit uncertain how the restaurant would work out during its first year or two, but he’s feeling pretty good about it these days. “Business has been good,” he said. “We have a lot of regular customers now.” Samurai Sushi now employs six in addition to Kim, who is also the head sushi chef. Kim says the three most popular items on his menu are among his list of 19 specialty rolls: • The Aberdeen Roll: tuna, salmon, albacore, escolar, red snapper, asparagus and cucumber with unagi sauce. • The Westport Roll: imitation crab, avocado and cream cheese with torched salmon and honey sauce. • The Vampire Roll: spicy

Aside from its sushi bar, the restaurant has a full kitchen offering a wide variety of Asian dishes — udon noodles, yakisoba, ramen, teriyaki, Galbi ribs and more.

For nearly a decade, Bennett’s Fish Shack has set the bar for quality seafood, creative burgers and unique concoctions utilizing fresh local catches and harvests. The Westport business began in 2010, and Ocean Shores opened a year later. This year, Bennett’s will be expanding once again — this time to Port Angeles. What started as a familystyle restaurant in Grayland has now become far more than just a Fish Shack, which is the way chief manager/owner/chef Ron Lambert envisioned it at the start. Other principals in the business are Lambert’s mother, Vonda, and sister, Randi. In Westport, just a walk down the street past the marina convinced Lambert there was a need for a fish

BROADWAY DENTAL: Best Dentist When compared with most of their staff, Dr. Lance J. Gunter and Dr. Douglas Messick are the new guys at Broadway Dental Center. Gunter started there almost 3 years ago. Messick has been there a little more than a year. “We have a hygienists that started two years ago. Everyone else has been here 15, 10 years-plus,” Gunter said. “We’re the third generation of dentists (to own the practice).” “Some of the staff have been here since the first generation,” Messick added. They give most of the credit for their broad, longstanding client base to their staff. When they took over the practice about a year ago, they lost a handful of clients out of the more than 1,000 they tend to. “A big factor of that is because all of the staff, they

Her care provider advised a massage, and her insurance covered it. She thought, “I love this.” And she decided to give it a go as a career. “I love that part of just giving and loving people to the point of helping them heal from their injuries,” she said. Thus began a life change that would become Ambiance Massage & Spa Ltd. After two shoulder surgeries, Shope doesn’t work as much as she used to with clients. For some patients, that means daily visits. For others, it can be weekly or as needed. Right now, the agency is serving 240 patients in Grays Harbor and Pacific counties. The agency got its start almost 40 years ago with help from the Grays Harbor County Health Department, and it has since become an independent nonprofit. Funding comes mostly from Medicare and Medicaid fees for its services. The agency employs about 70 people from offices in Hoquiam and Long Beach. The typical care

Now, Eddy and Ellena Armstrong again find themselves atop the Best of Twin Harbors list. Ellena does the piercing, Eddy the ink at Eternal Love Tattoos. Rounding out the team are their son, Nathaniel, and apprentice Naomi Marsh. Eddy said he moved to Aberdeen to get clean. He had a long history of addiction and trouble with the law, spending stretches in prison. He also has a long history with tattoos, getting his first — Mighty Mouse — when he was 18. He studied under T.C., owner of Tom Cat Tattoo, while still battling his demons, even temporarily losing his apprenticeship there as a result. Around that same time,

shop in the region, taking over Tom Cat and changing the name to Eternal Love nine years ago. Eddy prides himself as a versatile artist. He listens to what his clients want and delivers. Ellena operates the same way, and is known for her gentle touch and ability to put her clients at ease. This is a popular shop: They’re booked about 90 days out. The family’s faith precludes some types of work. Private areas will not be pierced, and Eddy won’t touch art related to gangs, pornography or hate. The couple said clients often seek them out for spiritual advice. And, of course, quality ink and piercings.
Ellena’s younger brother urged her to move to Aberdeen, a place she’d never heard of, to escape an unhealthy relationship in Kansas City. That younger brother happened to be married to Eddy’s cousin. ROBIN'S PET GROOMING: Best Pet Grooming Service At Robin’s Pet Grooming in South Aberdeen, Robin Stolen places major emphasis on bonding with the dogs and cats she serves. She has operated the pet grooming service out of her house since 1997, along with help from her twin sister, Rebecca Simpson. Another assistant is their in-house golden Labrador retriever named Moose, whose friendly demeanor makes him somewhat of a therapy dog for their canine clients. As part of the bonding process, Stolen said she always allows ample time for play before the actual grooming commences. Branch manager Jimmy Holden has been at the position for 13 years, and said not much has changed in that time. But he thinks the attention to customers and providing a quick response to calls and messages is what has helped the business win best roofing awards for numerous years. “It’s our customer service, always being available, answering calls, that’s one of the biggest things I hear back from customers,” said Holden. In addition to installations, Roof Doctor provides roof cleaning, repairs and re-roofing services. They also do work on windows, siding and decks. Sometimes if people are

then members of the community can come by and pick them up, fill them for soldiers, and drop them off for shipping. “We did 1,259 stockings plus 10 postal boxes full of goodies,” said staff member Amber Carlson. SELMER'S HOME FURNISHINGS: Best Bedding/Mattress Store Selmer’s Home Furnishings, the longest-standing furniture shop on the Harbor at 47 years, is also Harborites’ go-to place for mattresses and bedding. Co-owner Tim Schlaht said bedding has always been an area they’ve done well in, selling popular brands like the Simmons Beautyrest and Lady Americana at good prices. The co-owners are his two sisters, Sherry Erickson and Vicki Trader. They are the children of the store’s founders, Selmer and Betty Schlaht. “We’ve always been family-oriented. Even the employees become family to us,” said Schlaht. He said the company’s longevity has helped it make a name for itself on Grays Harbor. “I think the fact we’ve been in the community for
