The population of Kitsap County has remained steady over the past decade. Affordable housing and new projects including downtown redevelopment and waterfront condominiums may well lead to larger increases in Bremerton’s population and even more business opportunities in the near future. Celebrations There’s no doubt that Bremerton and Kitsap County residents like to have a good time and enjoy family-oriented activities. That’s why the community plays host to numerous fun activities including:

First Friday Arts Walk, as the name implies, is held the first Friday of every month. Galleries, museums and businesses in downtown Bremerton, Manette and the Charleston District stay open late to provide ample opportunity to enjoy Bremerton’s culture and unique shops.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade gives you an opportunity to be Irish for

Bremerton has long had the distinction of coordinating the nation’s largest and longest-running Armed Forces Day Parade on the third Saturday of May. The parade began in 1948 – two years before Armed
Forces Day became a federally recognized holiday. People from all over the Pacific Northwest come out every year to enjoy over 100 parade entries plus dozens of military entries and more than 20 marching bands. Stop by the Bremerton Central Lions Pancake Breakfast before the parade, the vendor booths, and the Puget Sound Energy Heroes Barbeque. Other major events include the Bremerton Central Lions Charitable Foundation Armed Forces Festival Ambassadors Scholarship Program, the Pepsi Armed Forces Golf Tournament at Gold Mountain

Golf Complex, and the Military Culinary Arts Competition at Olympic College. Kitsap Harbor Festival on Memorial Day weekend takes place on the waterfronts of both Bremerton and Port Orchard and includes tall ships, vendor booths, farmers markets, classic car show, Seagull Calling Festival, Taste of Kitsap, live music, beer gardens, and more! You are invited to attend a memorial Service aboard the historic USS Turner Joy on Monday morning. The West Sound Senior Games coordinated by the City of Bremerton’s Parks and Recreation Department, are held the second week of July. Each year, approximately 200 athletes ages 50 and up participate at athletic venues throughout Kitsap County. The competition features basketball, bowling, disc golf, swimming, table tennis, tennis and much more. Kitsap Wine Festival at Harborside Fountain Park is a celebration of food and wine on Bremerton’s scenic waterfront, benefiting the Olympic College Alumni Association. Guests love the Kitsap Wine Festival for the live music, delicious food, and of course, wide variety of wine. It’s hard to imagine a better place to sip and savor than on the gorgeous waterfront at the Kitsap Wine Festival. Kitsap County Fair and Stampede Rodeo is our community’s five-day fair at the end of
August. Attendees are treated to dozens of toe-tapping musical acts, farm animals galore and plenty of food. Cowboys consistently rate the Stampede Rodeo, as one of the best rodeos in the nation! Bremerton Summer Brewfest is a two-day event on the Bremerton waterfront, just a short walk from the Seattle-Bremerton ferry! This event features 30+ Washington breweries pouring more than 100 craft beers. To celebrate the summer, our Washington brewers will be focusing on fruit infused beers. Come to the Bremerton Summer Brewfest to learn more from our expert brewers while you enjoy live music and local food. Blackberry Festival on Labor Day Weekend signals the last celebration of the summer on Labor Day Weekend. The Downtown Bremerton Rotary Club coordinates this blockbuster event on the Boardwalk. Thousands of people take advantage of great weather, fun activities, live music and games for the kids. And don’t forget to sample all the blackberry goodies for sale. Yum! An easy ferry ride from Seattle delivers guests just steps away from the event location. Plentiful parking is available at Kitsap Conference Center garage at a nominal fee. Manettefest is also celebrated in September in Bremerton’s quaint Manette neighborhood. Celebrations typically

feature a pancake breakfast, “The World’s Shortest Parade” and a full day of live music, street vendors and raffles. It’s a great day for neighbors and visitors alike! Organized by the Manette Business Association Safe Trick-or-Treating Downtown on Halloween brings out all the little ones in their Halloween finery. In addition to candy and gifts, hayrides and storytelling are part of the fun. If you’re brave, include a visit to the USS Turner Joy, which is transformed into a “Haunted Ship” for the occasion. Winter Fest is highlighted by the arrival of Santa downtown and in Manette as well as the formal lighting of Christmas trees. Held in conjunction with December’s First Friday Arts Walk, this family-friendly event is a wonderful tradition! The kids will certainly have a great time at this old-fashioned holiday celebration. Lighted Boat Parades take place in mid-December. These beautiful boats can be seen along Kitsap County’s waterways on December weekends. Sparkling lights are mirrored on the water as boats glide along the shoreline. Wave to Santa as he calls out to good boys and girls on the waterfront. Shopping
Restaurants, accommodations and other businesses can be found along Kitsap Way into the city from Highway 3. The Charleston Business District features several local retailers, service providers and unique restaurants. Downtown Bremerton and the Harborside District feature a mix of galleries, specialty shops, cafés, banks and offices. Across the Manette Bridge is yet another eclectic mix of small shops and restaurants. The Manette area was recently proclaimed one of the best suburbs in Seattle, partly because of this unique mix of shops.

Bremerton National Airport, operated by the Port of Bremerton, boasts one of the longest runways in Western Washington. The Port has easy rail access for companies with shipping needs and has an agreement with the Port of Grays Harbor to allow easy access from the Pacific Coast directly to the Port of Bremerton. This innovative agreement dramatically cuts shipping time for savvy businesses.
Ferries provide regular service to the Seattle area from Bremerton, Kingston, Bainbridge Island and Port Orchard. In fact, Washington State Ferries operates one of the most extensive ferry services in the nation. In addition, Kitsap Transit operates a private
passenger-only ferry service between Bremerton and Port Orchard, which runs every half hour. Kitsap Transit also provides affordable service in an expansive bus route with

The Chamber and You …. The Bremerton Chamber of Commerce was initially formed as the Bremerton Board of Trade in 1904. The name was changed to the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce in 1907 and became incorporated in 1938. It’s interesting to note that the Treasurer of the Board of Directors was William Gates, grandfather of Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The Gates family owned a furniture store in downtown Bremerton and William Gates signed the Chamber’s Articles of Incorporation. Although the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 100th birthday in 2007, most people would be surprised to know that chambers of commerce existed in this country before we even became a country! The first chambers of commerce were formed in the colonies in the 1760’s. And they’ve been growing stronger ever since. Like most chambers of commerce, the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce

is a private, non-profit membership organization. Our mission is to promote and support our member businesses and provide leadership to enhance a positive business environment. This mission has helped the Bremerton Chamber become one of the largest chambers on the Kitsap Peninsula as well as one of the most effective chambers in delivering benefits to our members and the community.
