This publication is designed as a resource to help connect businesses, residents, and visitors with local information including municipal contacts, local service providers, and retail establishments. If you are visiting the area, we encourage you to explore the region and experience the warm hospitality and natural scenic beauty found in Grays Harbor. As a merged Regional Economic Development Council and Chamber of Commerce, our organization has many resources available to assist visitors and residents, alike. We host a variety of networking and informational events that can help you learn more about Grays Harbor and introduce you to the local business and civic community. With 350+ members, GGHI also represents a diverse assortment of businesses. Each member of our organization, listed within this guide, is investing in the continued growth and development of our community and helps support ongoing economic development efforts.

GREATER GRAYS HARBOR INC. Greater Grays Harbor is a Regional Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council that partners with local businesses, community groups, and government at the local, regional, state and national levels to encourage economic development, business growth, and professional development. As the Regional Economic Development authority and voice of the business community, they provide a variety of services and referrals – including workforce development and training, economic research and reports, business development, and site selection and relocation.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Greater Grays Harbor is committed to helping your business be successful, and part of that is offering professional development training. Leadership Grays Harbor is an intensive, six-month long program, facilitated by Grays Harbor College, that introduces participants to local business movers and shakers and develops communications and leadership skills. Greater Grays Harbor, Inc. also presents workshops and seminars on a regular basis to help you learn new ways to grow and support your business.
MARKETING YOUR BUSINESS Greater Grays Harbor provides a platform for business and organizations to connect and collaborate. For example, visitors can inquire about local attractions at our Visitor Information Center, local residents may contact us for local business referrals, and individuals from Grays Harbor and beyond frequently visit our website to search fro services and things to do. In each instance, Greater Grays Harbor strives to promote our local partners and members as we provide numerous referrals and recommendations each month. Every year we host EXPO Grays Harbor, the area's only trade show specifically for local businesses and customers, and the Bite of Grays Harbor, which attract thousands of people. There are also multiple business to business networking opportunities for GGHI members, including four signature events and over 30 monthly events to help with in person connections. Products launches and special business highlights can also be promoted through custom sponsorship opportunities.
OUTLOOK 2016-2017 The outlook is positive for Grays Harbor as the economy has improved significantly over the past few years. The forecast for many of our leading industries remains optimistic, while opportunities abound for entrepreneurs and small business owners looking to relocate to our area. Both the private and the government sectors are showing growth. Transportation, warehousing and utilities and the professional and business services industries are showing strong growth exceeding 10.8 percent. Construction and manufacturing show growth exceeding 4.5 percent. Grays Harbor County, home of the only deep water port in the state, is emerging as a leader in green manufacturing, seafood processing, boat building, shipping, agriculture and tourism. Important tourism destinations include Westport, Ocean Shores and Seabrook.

JOB MARKET MAJOR EMPLOYERS The average annual unemployment rate in Grays Harbor County has been on a decline year-overyear since 2011. Currently, the county's unemployment rate is at 9.2 percent, a decrease of .4 percent since from the previous month. The deeper trends in Grays Harbor show a steady increase in the total labor force and total employment. Based on current Washington State Employment Security Department reports, the Grays Harbor County workforce development is scheduled to grow by 1.96 percent, making it one of the top growth areas in the state. Statewide growth projections are 1.79 percent

GRAYS HARBOR COMMUNITY HOSPITAL Grays Harbor Community Hospital employs more than 700 people. Its health care team consists of physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, and students of the health sciences. These professionals provide needed diagnostic treatment and patient care services of the highest standards. Each patient at Grays Harbor Community hospital has an attending physician who has primary responsibility for the patient’s medical care.
GRAYS HARBOR PUD GH PUD is a community-owned not-forprofit utility formed by a vote of the people. PUDs are governed by a nonpartisan, locally elected board of commissioners. Commissioners are responsible for setting rates, establishing policy, approving budgets and and providing direction for the operation of the utility.
Staff at the utility are your friends and neighbors. Not only do they care about doing a good job at the PUD, but they also care about the community.That’s why you will find PUD employees at school meetings, community events and political rallies, leading scouts, coaching sports, teaching Sunday school. They want to help make Grays Harbor the best place on earth to live and raise families - and for the community to be known as a place where folks care about one another; a place where people help people. Special services include a Senior Discount Program, the Disabled Discount Program, and Project Help, a program that offers customers the opportunity to help fund heating bills for those in financial need.
PORT OF GRAYS HARBOR Once the leading export port for U.S. grown timber, Grays Harbor now leads the U.S. in exports of American grown soybean meal and is the number one seafood landing point in Washington State. While

forest products remain an important piece of the Grays Harbor cargo mix, the Port has substantially diversified the products shipped through this Pacific Northwest gateway to include automobiles, biodiesel and other liquid and dry bulk products. The Port of Grays Harbor boundaries include all of Grays Harbor County, on Washington State's Pacific Coast. Governed by three elected commissioners, the Port of Grays Harbor's mission is to best utilize our resources to facilitate, enhance and stimulate international trade, economic development and tourism for the betterment of the region. A guiding principal of the Port of Grays Harbor is strengthening the regional economy through partnerships. The Port partners with private businesses that utilize the community's assets to increase private
investment and employment opportunities for the citizens of Grays Harbor. From the shippers and manufacturers of the Port Industrial Area, to the commercial fishermen, seafood processors, yacht builders and charter operators of the Westport Marina, to the private pilots and corporate jet users of Bowerman Airport, the Port works to foster a positive climate in which these individuals can pursue their business opportunities.
QUINAULT NATION / CASINO AND RESORT The Quinault Indian Nation consists of the Quinault and Queets tribes and descendants of five other coastal tribes: Quileute, Hoh, Chehalis, Chinook and Cowlitz. The enterprises of the Quinault Indian Nation, including the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino, Quinault Pride and many others, employ nearly 700 people, making it one of the largest employers in Grays Harbor County. People are the most important resource to the Quinault Nation, and they employ all levels of educated people to fill their many technical jobs. Tribal operations consist of the following areas: Administration, Natural Resources, Community Services, Health and Social Services. In addition, they have several en-
terprises: Quinault Pride Seafood, Land and Timber, Quinault Beach Resort, Maritime Resort, and the Mercantile, all of which promote the growth and develop the potential of the Reservation.
STAFFORD CREEK PRISON Stafford Creek employs more than 600 people in Grays Harbor. Offenders participate in various activities that support the community. The Inside⁄Out organization puts together fundraisers for community charity groups such as the Children’s Advocacy Center of Grays Harbor, Coastal Community Action Program, Habitat for Humanity, and the Grays Harbor Food Bank Distribution Center. “Bicycles from Heaven" works with the Grays Harbor Lions Club to donate like– new bikes to the community. Offenders receive old bikes and bike parts, refurbish them and donate them to the Lions Club for distribution to individuals in need, with over 1,000 bikes being distributed throughout Grays Harbor County to date. Offenders also participate in Outreach, crocheting hats and blankets and donating them to community agencies such as the United Gospel Mission, the Nursery at the local hospital, and the United Way Coat/ Blanket Drive. Through Toy Time, offenders make toys to donate to the community for children during the holidays. These donations go to the Children’s Advocacy Center and the Christmas for Kids in Grays Harbor program.

REAL ESTATE OUTLOOK COMMERCIAL The much improved local economy has made Grays Harbor an attractive investment alternative. Our real estate prices with better priced values than the Puget Sound Communities adds to the interest. The buildings around Walmart in Aberdeen are nearly fully occupied. Recent sales and leases resulted in new Sprint and Marshalls stores, a Tractor Supply Company rural outdoor supply store, and Wendy's is expected to be breaking ground very soon. Commercial properties in the rest of Aberdeen and Hoquiam have drawn attention from developers inquiring for sites. The regional children’s dental service, Harbor Kids, chose a building in downtown Aberdeen for a state of the art clinic. Two refurbished convenience stores are opening in Hoquiam, and the LaVogue building has a new owner. Monte Square has a new RV Park, and Bridge’s restaurant, and sites at a new business park at the Elma freeway off-ramp are nearly ready for buildings. The beach communities have also seen new investment. The Islander Resort in Westport changed hands, and will be reopening in the summer of 2016. The Links Golf Couse site was purchased by Washington State Parks, which is considering redevelopment options for much of the 300 acres. In Ocean Shores two motels have recently changed hands, and been completely remodeled. Bennett’s has opened the Ocean Grill dinner house. The greatest amount of new commercial construction is in the North Beach area. New retail construction is underway at Oyhut
Bay and Seabrook. And the Quinault Beach Resort has begun a $25 million expansion. All three projects are worth the drive to see. Grays Harbor continues to offer real values in commercial real estate. - Tom Quigg Raised in Hoquiam, educated by local schools and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Civil Engineering, Tom Quigg is a fourth generation Grays Harbor native. He not only sells commercial real estate, he is sold on Grays Harbor for a multitude of reasons: the business and job opportunities; the mild weather; the education system; the hardworking and welcoming residents; and the breathtaking beauty of the region that offers so many outdoor activities and recreational options.
RESIDENTIAL Real estate agents have seen a marked improvement over previous years. Grays Harbor County had an overall increase in sales volume of 9.6 percent. The still low housing costs continue to make new home purchases affordable. There are some beautiful homes that can be acquired at a fraction of the cost compared to other areas of the state.
VACATION HOMES The vacation, or second home market is growing considerably stronger, which is bringing a lot of new construction to the North and South Beach communities. Beach-front real estate is known for being among the most affordable oceanfront along the Washington Coast. If you're a beach lover, you'll want to check out these coastal communities: Ocean Shores, Westport, Moclips, Pacific Beach, Seabrook, Copalis Beach and Ocean Park.

TRANSPORTATION
Grays Harbor County offers easy access to all forms of transportation from the local county-wide bus service to the industrial offerings from the seaport, rail, highways, rail and airport.
Grays Harbor Transit (GHT) provides quality services to Grays Harbor and its neighboring county residents. Improvements to the service include: upgrading all the fixed route fleet to low floor busses, making boarding easier; upgrading the dispatch system with GPS technology; real-time Web updates for those using smart phones or devices to check scheduling; and equipping all fixed route busses with Wi-Fi. A new printed Bus Book is available. Transit riders will have easy access to the information they need regarding GHT, all in one easy to use book.
The Port of Grays Harbor boasts four marine terminals with full service, international gateway offering on-dock rail access, warehousing, upland cargo storage and an experience labor force. It is the only deep water port in the State of Washington, and a full day closer to Asia than any other continental U.S. Port. It is served by rail, highway, and an airport.
Rail options include the Puget Sound and Pacific Railroad, a Washington shortline that operates daily on 60 miles of track in the county and interchanges with both the Burlington Northern and Union Pacific Railroads. Having the ability to interchange with both railroads allows competitive freight rates throughout the country.
Bowerman Airport, located on the bay in Hoquiam, has a 5,000 foot jet-capable runway and full ILS navigational services. FedEx uses Bowerman Airport as part of its air delivery service. Other public airports include one in Elma, which is adjacent to the Satsop Business Park, one in Ocean Shores and one in Westport. Fourteen trucking firms offer long-haul service and another 6 that provide local cartage.
