The purpose was to assist members in times of illness or need and to uphold Norwegian traditions. Ester Moe Lodge 39 was instituted in 1996 at the Island County Fairgrounds in Langley. The lodge's namesake, Ester Moe, was appointed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt as Postmaster of the Clinton Post Office, where she served for 29 years. Ester Moe Lodge is one of the largest Daughters of Norway lodges in the United States.
