New Tacoma Awards Downtown Farmers Market, UW Tacoma YMCA earn honors

Posted online Fri., July 10 Photos Courtesy Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber The Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber named this year's recipients of the New Tacoma Awards, the annual honorific that recognizes business organizations and individuals making outstanding contributions to the revitalization of downtown Tacoma, during a luncheon Friday at Pacific Grill Events Center. The award categories, nominees, and recipients this year include: Popham Award -- Recognizing the individual that has done the most to build community spirit. Judi Hyman; Sarah Cutting; Milt Tremblay; and Dr. Debra Friedman (award recipient). Ghilarducci Award -- Recognizing new development, renovation or beautification. The Henry Apartments; 1120 Creative House; Tacoma Art Museum; and UW Tacoma YMCA (award recipient). Union Station Award -- Recognizing a leading organization, company or individual that has built or sustained momentum for revitalization. Spaceworks Tacoma; PJ Hummel & Co.; and Sitecrafting (award recipient). Schoenfeld Award -- Recognizing exemplary performance and pizzazz as a retailer or restaurateur. Tacoma Cabana Tiki Room and Rum Bar; The Harmon Brewery; Endless Prints; Jon Tartaglia; Odd Otter; Pacific Brewing Company; and The Olive Branch Cafe (award recipient). Public Places Award -- Recognizing the best activation of a public park, open space or area in the public right-of-way. Franciscan Polar Plaza; Prairie Line Trail; and Downtown Farmers Market (award recipient).
