Population Climate The population of Kitsap County has remained steady over the past decade. Affordable housing and new projects including downtown redevelopment and waterfront condominiums may well lead to larger increases in Bremerton’s population and even more business opportunities in the near future. Weather in Western Washington is generally mild all year round. Extremely hot or cold weather is very rare, although a day or two of snow usually occurs in the winter. 100 parade entries plus dozens of military entries and more than 20 marching bands.
There’s no doubt that Bremerton and Kitsap County residents like to have a good time and enjoy family-oriented activities. That’s why the community plays host to numerous fun activities including:
Stop by the Bremerton Central Lions Pancake Breakfast before the parade, the vendor booths, and the Puget Sound Energy Heroes Barbeque.
First Friday Arts Walk, as the name implies, is held the first Friday of every month. Galleries, museums and businesses in downtown Bremerton, Manette and the Charleston District stay open late to provide ample opportunity to enjoy Bremerton’s culture and unique shops.

swimming, table tennis, tennis and much more. Kitsap Wine Festival is an enjoyable walk-around event featuring wine tasting from more than thirty Northwest wineries. New in 2010, the Kitsap Wine Festival featured on-site wine purchasing so that guests have the opportunity to purchase the wines they have sampled with all net proceeds supporting the Harrison Medical Center Foundation. Delicious cuisine will be provided by local establishments. Live music, waterfront vistas, food and wine combine with the beautiful Harborside Fountain Park venue to create the perfect summertime atmosphere and experience. An easy ferry ride from Seattle delivers guests just steps away from the event location. Plentiful parking is available at Kitsap Conference Center garage at a nominal fee. Kitsap County Fair and Stampede Rodeo is our community’s five-day fair at the end of
August. Attendees are treated to dozens of toe-tapping musical acts, farm animals galore and plenty of food. Cowboys consistently rate the Stampede Rodeo, as one of the best rodeos in the nation! Blackberry Festival on Labor Day Weekend signals the last celebration of the summer on Labor Day Weekend. The Downtown Bremerton Rotary Club coordinates this blockbuster event on the Boardwalk. Thousands of people take advantage of great weather, fun activities, live music and games for the kids. And don’t forget to sample all the blackberry goodies for sale. Yum! Manettefest is also celebrated in September in Bremerton’s quaint Manette neighborhood. Celebrations typically feature a pancake breakfast, “The World’s Shortest Parade” and a full day of live music, street vendors and raffles. It’s a great day for neighbors and visitors alike! Organized by the Manette Business Association
Safe Trick-or-Treating Downtown on Halloween brings out all the little ones in their Halloween finery. In addition to candy and gifts, hayrides and storytelling are part of the fun. If you’re brave, include a visit to the USS Turner Joy, which is transformed into a “Haunted Ship” for the occasion. Winter Fest is highlighted by the arrival of Santa downtown and in Manette as well as the formal lighting of Christmas trees. Held in conjunction with December’s First Friday Arts Walk, this family-friendly event is a wonderful tradition! The kids will certainly have a great time at this oldfashioned holiday celebration. Lighted Boat Parades take place in mid-December. These beautiful boats can be seen along Kitsap County’s waterways on December weekends. Sparkling lights are mirrored on the water as boats glide along the shoreline. Wave to Santa as he calls out to good boys and girls on the waterfront. The USS Turner Joy is a refurbished Vietnam-era destroyer that is now a floating museum operated by the Bremerton Historic Ships Association. Moored at the north end of the Bremerton Boardwalk, the ship can be explored topside and below decks. The tour also includes a Vietnam POW memorial. The ship is a popular location for group events, reunions, guided tours and overnight adventures. Be sure to visit the ship in October when it becomes the Halloween Haunted Ship.

Across the Manette Bridge is yet another eclectic mix of small shops and restaurants. The Manette area was recently proclaimed one of the best suburbs in Seattle, partly because of this unique mix of shops.

Transportation Ferries provide regular service to the Seattle area from Bremerton, Kingston, Bainbridge Island and Port Orchard. In fact, Washington State Ferries operates one of the most extensive ferry services in the nation. In addition, Kitsap Transit operates a private passenger-only ferry service between Bremerton and Port Orchard, which runs every half hour. Kitsap Transit also provides affordable service in an expansive bus route with access services and regular vanpools available. Paratransit Services assists disabled and disadvantaged residents. Bremerton National Airport, operated by the Port of Bremerton, boasts one of the longest runways in Western Washington. The Port has easy rail access for companies with shipping needs and has an agreement with the Port of Grays Harbor to allow easy access from the Pacific Coast directly to

The Chamber and You ….

The Bremerton Chamber of Commerce was initially formed as the Bremerton Board of Trade in 1904. The name was changed to the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce in 1907 and became incorporated in 1938. It’s interesting to note that the Treasurer of the Board of Directors was William Gates, grandfather of Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The Gates family owned a furniture store in downtown Bremerton and William Gates signed the Chamber’s Articles of Incorporation.
The Chamber is also involved in many behind-the-scenes activities to help the business and citizens of Bremerton and Kitsap County. The Chamber works on economic development and international trade, tourism, tax and regulatory issues as well as community planning and redevelopment.
Although the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 100th birthday in 2007, most people would be surprised to know that chambers of commerce existed in this country before we even became a country! The first chambers of commerce were formed in the colonies in the 1760’s. And they’ve been growing stronger ever since. Like most chambers of commerce, the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce is a private, non-profit membership organization. Our mission is to promote and support our member businesses and provide leadership to enhance a positive business environment. This mission has helped the Bremerton Chamber become one of the largest chambers on the Kitsap Peninsula as well as one of the most effective chambers in delivering benefits to our members and the community. Businesses and individuals join the Bremerton Chamber for a number of reasons. Many join for networking and advertising opportunities. Some members want to take advantage of member to member discounts. And most understand that supporting the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce is a terrific way to support

A “can-do” attitude certainly helps this committee accomplish the enormous task of planning the nation’s longest-running Armed Forces Day Celebration. Included in the festivities are a spectacular parade, golf tournament at one of the state’s top golf courses, military culinary arts competition and a scholarship program. Installation & Auction In an organization with a reputation for high-energy events, the annual Installation & Auction is the granddaddy of them all! Volunteers help create exciting events to welcome the new Chamber Board and Officers while raising funds for the Chamber. Legislative People who can’t get enough of politics have a great time by helping to identify business issues, drafting position papers, conducting “Eggs & Issues” candidate forums and meeting with officials on the local, state and federal levels. Committee members work hard on enhancing the business climate through legislative channels and keeping our members informed on issues important to their businesses. Membership & Marketing This committee is specially designed for creative and outgoing people. Projects include Operation Thank You (where members are personally visited by committee members), coordinating membership drives, and organizing networking activities such as After-Hours, working on the West Sound Business Expo, coordinating grand opening celebrations and making new members feel welcome through the business mentor program.

Chamber History
The Bremerton Improvement Club began in the year 1902. The Bremerton Board of Trade was started in 1904. The Board of Trade absorbed the BIC, and was organized to promote PSNS and the affairs pertaining to the well being of Bremerton. The name was changed to Bremerton Chamber of Commerce in 1907. In 1938 the Chamber incorporated. It’s interesting to note that the Treasurer of the Board of Directors was William Gates, grandfather of Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The Gates family owned a furniture store in downtown Bremerton and William Gates signed the Chamber’s Articles of Incorporation.
