Welcome to Arlington

I am honored to serve as the Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce President for 2015. My goal is to grow membership while establishing even better relationships and communication among all our local businesses and the Chamber. We have a wonderful group of community-minded people serving on our board of directors this year, and I am looking forward to the events we have planned for 2015. A successful Chamber is one that gives back to its business and social community in a way no other organization can. A successful business community is enhanced by attracting people to shop locally. Shopping locally not only beneﬁts our own businesses, but also our schools, our neighbors, our community entities, our government services, our friends and our families. These businesses donate to charities, churches, and community events. Many also sponsor school trips and sporting teams. So when we support our local businesses, they are able to do even more for our communities. Now, that is a win-win situation!! The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce helps its members by being an advocate for their professional needs, by building brand recognition and clientele, by connecting them to the area’s leading business professional network, and by promoting their organization. As I mentioned in the beginning, it is my goal this year is to continuously improve relationships and communication among our local businesses and the chamber. This directory is one of the many tools I will be putting into the hands of our community this year to aid in achieving that goal. I believe this directory is a key component to the overall success of Chamber because it provides a direct resource to encourage local shopping. The foundation of our organization is strong, and I am excited at the prospects on the horizon for this year and the years to come. I encourage you, as my fellow business owners, to reach out to support your fellow members and local business owners. Together we can achieve great things! A Message from Mayor Barbara Tolbert City of Arlington As Mayor of Arlington and a former member of the Board of Directors for the Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce, I understand how important it is to represent and promote our business economy, and encourage business and industrial investment, to both enhance our economy and provide employment. As your mayor, I work with the city council and city staff to promote economic development, provide quality city services, and enhance our community by providing exceptional public spaces. Arlington continues to be a vibrant community, rich in heritage, with a growing business base. Our focus continues to be on improving our infrastructure systems to support business growth and your employment base. We will continue to fight in the legislation for funding to widen SR 531 for freight mobility, employee mobility, and increased revenue. We are also fortunate to have several unique business districts that support both small and large businesses. Arlington is a leader in the aerospace and industrial manufacturing sectors, is home to many innovative companies that are producing green products, and has a downtown retail center that continues to grow. Right now, we have a total of 888 businesses licensed within the city limits of Arlington. This figure brings us to a pre-recession level. With such an active business community, we are confident that residents are able to purchase locally. Citizens and visitors can attest to the value they receive from the services of our local businesses. The city’s longstanding relationship with the Chamber of Commerce is mutually beneficial as we work together to maintain and advance the business climate in our community. The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce Works For You! The Chamber hosts many events such as Membership Luncheons and Business After Hours events to give you the opportunity to meet more potential clients, other local businesses and customers face-to-face. • Promotes tourism in Arlington, Smokey Point and the surrounding areas. The Chamber’s Visitor Information Center is open whenever the office is and is full of information for visitors and residents alike. • Annual events with Sponsorship opportunities, such as our Black & White Gala, Carnival and 4th of July Events.

Arlington-Smokey Point Visitor Center Arlington-Smokey Point Visitor Center-The Chamber of Commerce Board has also changed the mission of the traditional Visitors Information Center at Smokey Point. The ASPCOC Visitor Center will be focusing almost entirely on Arlington and Smokey Point businesses and attractions, while maintaining brochures and information on the most popular Seattle, Tri-Cities and Canadian attractions. We have been able to obtain new Washington State Maps and make them available for just $1.00 each. The new Visitor Center opened in the Chamber office in January 2013, and will be open, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm., closed for lunch and holidays. DABA is a group of downtown Arlington merchants that meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 8 AM. Currently, we meet at Wild Rose Catering at 318 N. Olympic Avenue. DABA benefits include being informed of downtown activities, events and planning, as well as opportunities for group advertising and word of mouth advertising. Commissions and Boards The City Council meets at 7:00 pm on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. In addition, the Council has workshops on the 2nd and 4th Monday. No action will be taken at workshops. The meetings are held in the Council Chambers 110 E. 3rd St. Arlington, WA 98223. The public is encouraged to attend. The Airport Commission meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Airport Meeting Room at the Airport Office at 18204 59th Dr NE, Arlington, WA. The Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission (PARC)-Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Council Chambers located at 110 East Third Street. The Planning Commission meets in the Council Chambers at 110 East Third Street at 7:00 pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday unless there is a Monday holiday, in which case, the meetings are moved to the following Thursday. The Cemetery Board is a voluntary board consisting of five citizens from the Arlington Community that serves the Arlington Municipal Cemetery. The members of the commission are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.
