The Kent and Tahoma school districts have reached a tentative agreement regarding a proposed land transfer of the Forest Creek neighborhood. The request was submitted to the Puget Sound Educational Service District, which oversees school district boundaries, in the fall by residents of Forest Creek. Residents wanted the 29 homes to become a part of the Tahoma School District. The move would affect about a dozen students, who reportedly all attend Tahoma on transfers. The Kent School Board denied the transfer in January, citing the loss in assessed valuation that would occur if the transfer went through, resulting in a 21 cent increase in property taxes per $100,000 of assessed value for a homeowner in the Kent School District. The Kent Board did however adopt an optional student attendance zone for the neighborhood

Black Diamond Mayor Dave Gordon released his right to attorney-client privilege, which put the harassment claims against him and related documents in the public domain. The documents include allegations against Gordon by Black Diamond City Administrator Christy Todd, who claims the BLACK mayor made DIAMOND harassing and unwelcome comments, emails and behavior, which included “repeated comments about my clothing, my smile, how proud he is of me, that he considers me a ‘prized possession’ and ‘a trophy.’” Todd said she also felt uncomfortable about finding the mayor had uploaded a photo of her from the internet on to his cellphone. Todd said she was ready and willing to continue in her role as city administrator and the harassment

Skyler Daniels was pushing around a broom when a sweaty man on an elliptical machine called out, “Hey, Sky, what’ve you been up to?” “Nothin’,” Daniels responded. “Workin’.” Usually, Daniels would stop to chat about the baseball he caught during batting practice of the Mariners game or encourage the man on his workout. But Daniels was feeling a bit nervous — he

was being followed by a newspaper reporter with a camera and had just finished an interview about his job. Excited and nervous. Usually it’s only excited — a quality that led him to being named Prom King at Kentlake High School and to earning multiple metals at the Washington Special Olympic Games. He seems to glow with a unique brand of enthusiasm that makes those around him feel better. At ease. “People gravitate towards him,” said Mike Milat, 22, manager of Maple Valley Fitness. “Within the

first two months of being here he knew more people than I do.” Daniels, 20, is a member of Trillium Employment Services, a nonprofit organization that has helped businesses recruit, train and retain employees with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Washington for more than 30 years. Trillium serves King, Kitsap, Pierce and Clark Counties. Trillium helped Daniels get an apprenticeship with Maple Valley Fitness in February of 2012. He’d clean the cardio equipment, vacuum, mop, distribute flyers, hand out raffle tickets and shake the Maple Valley Fitness sign outside. He made quite an impression. “His dedication to the work is greater than everybody on the staff,” Milat said. “The hardest

Skilled in the courtroom, Mark Prothero was also generous to the community in which he lived. The Kent attorney was many things to many people, but perhaps the best way to sum him up is to say he was a generous man who left his mark on the legal profession and on every activity to which he donated his time. “The Kent community has a hole blown in it,” said Todd Gruenhagen, a longtime friend and colleague who worked with Prothero on many trials, notably the historic case against Gary Ridgway, the Green River Killer. “He was a giving soul, and that makes it a tough, tough loss to deal with. It’s a terrible, tragic loss. “Everybody liked him, loved him like a brother,” Gruenhagen added. “I guess you can’t say any more than that.” Prothero – a prominent criminal defense attorney, civic leader, community volunteer and coach – died early Saturday morning at his Kent home with family at his side. Prothero, who had waged a two-year battle with lung cancer, was 57. Prothero is best known as one of the lead defense

He had a humorous slant on things, even in difficult times.” Prothero was a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Washington Defender Association, and the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, serving on its board of governors from 2003 to 2009. He was a judge pro tem in King County Superior Court and in Kent, Tukwila, Des Moines, and SeaTac municipal courts. In 2006, “Presumed Innocent” magazine named Prothero and his partner, Girard, Trial Lawyers of the Year. Prothero was also named a criminal defense “SuperLawyer” by Washington Law & Politics magazine every year from 2006 to 2013. The honor recognizes the top 25 criminal defense practitioners in the state, as voted on by other Washington attorneys. Prothero was willing to help others. “He was always a great mentor to attorneys as well as at our firm,” Girard said. “And when we used to work as public defenders, he was

always the one who would help young attorneys.” Prothero began his career in criminal defense in 1983, working as a public defender for the Associated Counsel for the Accused (ACA). He started off defending people in the municipal and district courts accused of such crimes as DUI, shoplifting and domestic violence. He moved on to defend juveniles. In 1987, he joined the felony unit. While at ACA, Prothero participated in many pro bono projects. “I hold him in the highest regard. He was a terrific lawyer, a terrific mentor to younger attorneys while he worked here,” said Don Madsen, ACA director, who worked with Prothero for 25 years. “He gave back to the community. He cared about the clients he represented.” In his first murder trial, Prothero worked on Madsen’s team. “He was a hard worker,” Madsen said. “He had a sense of perspective that was a great help to him in trying to figure out what was the best thing for his clients and to represent them to the fullest. “He could see the other side,” Madsen added. “He could acknowledge what the other issues are … he could see the whole picture.”

In 2010, Gov. Chris Gregoire appointed Prothero to a position on the Washington State Forensic Investigation Council, which oversees the state’s crime labs. He was the first criminal defense lawyer appointed to the FIC. Prothero was deeply committed to community involvement. He served on several Kent School District committees and on the board of directors for the Kent Parks Foundation. He volunteered at local high schools and colleges, speaking about criminal law and law as a career. “He felt it was important to educate kids,” Girard said. In 2003, Prothero cofounded the organization, Kent Citizens for Water Safety, in a successful effort to keep the Kent-Meridian pool open. In 2007 and 2008, he chaired the Citizens for Kent Recreation and Aquatics Future, which worked to have a new aquatic and recreation facility built in Kent. Prothero also was a successful swimmer in the 1970s. He was a recordsetting swimmer at Renton High School. He was captain of the University of Washington swim team in 1977 and 1978 and represented the United States in international competi[ more LEADER page 10 ]

Kent students come together to plan K-Day

Registration is open for summer girls guitar classes at Dace’s Rock ‘n’ More. Arielle Young, vice president of the nonprofit music school, will be teaching a group guitar class specifically designed for girls ages 9-13. The group guitar classes will range in size from three to five girls and each weekly lesson will be 50 minutes long. It’s not often you get student leaders from four rival high schools working together on the same project. The rivalries between the four Kent School District comprehensive high schools run deep, but this year the inter-high associated student body program has been resurrected. At a conference last year students from Kent-Meridian High and Kentlake High heard Mike Smith, who is the founder of both Skate for Change and The Bay, speak at a conference. Smith encourages teenagers through the two organizations to go after their dreams and works with skateboarders to help the homeless in their communities. According to Smith’s website, he is passionate

about encouraging teens to live their dreams, give back to their communities and be extraordinary. He also travels as a motivational speaker and plans to skateboard from New York City to Los Angeles this summer. The students from the two Kent schools were so impressed by Smith that they wanted their peers to hear his message, too. Smith came to the four schools and spoke during assemblies and with leadership students. “He resonated with all the Kent high school kids,” said Megan Morgan, KentMeridian teacher, activities director and leadership advisor. Covington Police Chief Kevin Klason said the clerk gave the man cash from the register, but that the safe was on a time lock and could not be opened for 10 minutes. The suspect told the clerk to lock the business doors and begin the safe’s opening sequence, Klason said. “During that time (the suspect) got agitated… and cranked off a round at the computer monitor on the

desk,” Klason said. The suspect eventually fled out the rear door with money from the register and safe. Klason said a K-9 officer tracked the suspect’s scent to the Multi-Care parking lot, where the man likely escaped in an awaiting vehicle. Klason said there was no one else at the store and that the clerk was uninjured. He said the amount of money stolen is still

Crisis averted, this time

I almost hit someone with my car the other day. It wasn’t on purpose or anything, but it also wasn’t the first time this sort of thing has ever happened to me. And, I admit, this was probably the closest I’ve ever come to maiming someone with my vehicle. I was idling at a stop sign, checking to my left on a relatively busy Capitol Hill street, scouting my opening for a right turn. I found my spot and hit the gas, realizing my error just in time to catch the break before a mid-20-something had to throw his hand onto my car and twist his feet up like a kick-flipping skateboarder. Now, I’ve heard my bicyclist friends talk about getting swiped by cars and how they’ve always come out with, at most, a scratch. It’s almost always fine. But this was a pedestrian. And I practically knocked him onto my hood. The man looked at me behind his darkrimmed glasses, shocked, through the windshield. But he never really stopped walking. His glaring eyes were pretty clearly asking, “What the hell is wrong with you?” I responded with the unhelpful and inaudible, behind closed window hand motions that you might expect to see Jerry do on “Seinfeld,” along with the most legitimately sorry and apologetic face I have. The apparently uninjured man kept distancing himself, and made a wavering hand motion — kind of like if someone was making the “50/50” signal. on whether or not to sue my negligent keister for the neck injury he was going to fake or, maybe, that he was 50/50 unsure if he wanted to become my best friend because he was so impressed by how responsibly I was handling the situation. He seemed pretty angry, so I’m guessing it wasn’t that last one. But you never know — I’m a pretty convincing mime. This whole interaction is the unfortunate side effect of driving 45 minutes to and from work every day. And, although my mom will hate to hear this, the possibility of stupid drivers (e.g. me) getting myself or someone else hurt has exponentially increased. I’ve been fortunate enough in the past to be in walking, or near walking, distance from most every one of my other jobs. This is my first lengthy commute. But beyond the mileage, this is just another reminder of how quickly your normal day can

turn into the most important (good or bad) of your life. In this case, that guy probably told his friends about the idiot who nearly broke his legs. I, in turn, told my friends about how I was the idiot that nearly broke some guy’s legs. We all move on. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. People die. People’s femurs break. People get sued. People rarely end up as new best friends. I don’t mean to be a “look on the bright side” kind of fool, but the nearly catastrophic sometimes does help put life in perspective. At least for the moment. About 20 minutes later in my drive to work that day, I watched as a semi truck partially ran a red light and nearly flatten a man in a white Pontiac Sunfire who was desperately laying on his horn. The day could have been much worse. Sorry again, mom.

Geography has played a major part in Russia’s entire history. Most of western Russia is flat with no natural barriers to stop an invader from the west. Russia has been invaded several times in its history from that direction: Vikings, Swedes, Poles, the French under Napoleon and Germans in World Wars I and II. The Mongols in 1240, led by Batu Khan, grandson of Kublai Khan, captured Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, from the east. The Steppes (a flat, often treeless plain) of Russia provided no barriers to those ravaging hordes on horseback. Put yourself in Russia’s historical mindset for a moment. You live in a house that has been burglarized seven or more times. What are you going to do? If you are like most people, you would find yourself becoming very suspicious and on edge, building high fences, getting ferocious dogs, perhaps even hiring guards to patrol your property. If you examine its history, that is what has happened to Russia due to numerous inva-

sions. Russians are very security conscious. Bring that thinking up to the late 20th century. Joseph Stalin took over and occupied eastern Europe at the end of World War II after the Nazis had invaded the Soviet Union along a 1,000-mile front. The communists kept eastern Europe in subjection from 1945 until the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. Russia needs buffer zones to protect itself. It’s part of the Russian mentality. Let’s now look at what happened in Ukraine. (The word Ukraine means borderlands.) Ukraine has been fought over for centuries, being first controlled by the Russians and then the Poles and Germans. The western part of Ukraine tends to favor European perspectives. The eastern part tends to be made up of Russophiles. They desire to be part of Russia again. Western Ukraine is primarily agricultural, while eastern Ukraine is where most of the heavy industry is located. Western Ukrainians have pushed to come [ more ELFERS page 5 ]

The world watched with horror as Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine. Now the world is wondering if Vladimir Putin will follow the same pattern in eastern Ukraine. Time will tell because Putin must weigh Russia’s security needs of having buffer states between it and Europe, and Russia’s economic need to sell its oil and natural gas to keep its economy afloat. To understand the crisis in Ukraine, geography and history must be taken into account.

In November 2013 Victor Yanukovych rejected a pending EU association agreement that would have tied Ukraine more tightly to Europe. He chose instead to link Ukraine to Russia. These decisions caused street protests in Kiev by those who were angry at his move. As we have seen in recent news, those demonstrations resulted in a near civil war that caused the injuries and deaths of many Ukrainians. In February 2014 Yanukovych fled the capital, eventually ending up in Russia. With the departure of Yanukovych, Putin’s plan to keep

parcels that are a part of the planned development at the Hawk Property in Covington from Tahoma to Kent. Transferring the two parcels, which are each 40 acres, would make the entirety of the future development in the Kent School District. The development plans call for residential and commercial development, but currently no students

live on the property. According to Kent School Board documents, the transfer of the Forest Creek neighborhood will reduce the district’s assessed valuation by $5.36 million. The documents also state that the current assessed value of the combined, undeveloped 80 acres is $2.8 million. The third condition of

the agreement was that both districts would deny transfers for neighboring properties in the future. The next step is for both school boards to either approve or deny the transfers. Tahoma School District Spokesman Kevin Patterson said it was a surprise to Tahoma officials when Kent proposed also transferring the parcels in the Hawk

May 2, 2014 [5] Property. “We’re looking at it and that’s something the board needs to consider,” Patterson said. The Kent School Board approved the transfers at its April 23 meeting, and Patterson said that the proposal will likely go before the Tahoma School Board at their next meeting on May 13.

Economically, the Ukrainian crisis has also damaged Russia. Thirty percent of Europe’s natural gas comes from Russia, most of it through Ukraine. When Russia puts pressure on Ukraine, that dispute tends to spill over into Europe as it has on several recent occasions. Since much of Russia’s cash comes from sales of natural gas, this crisis makes Europeans both hesitant to challenge Russia about its actions in Ukraine and at the same time insecure about its needed supplies of fuel. As a result of the Ukrainian crisis, Russia’s GDP has dropped to .5

percent from 2.5 percent as capital has fled Russia for more secure areas. Putin is caught in something of a Catch-22. If he pushes too hard in Ukraine, he’ll lose the trust of his European customers and Russian income will diminish. This may cause Putin to look to China as a potential new customer. This will also push Europe back into the arms of the United States, something Putin doesn’t want. If Putin doesn’t push Ukraine enough, Russia is caught with insecure western borders, something that is frightening to the Russians with their long history of invasions from the West. To understand both Ukraine and Russian actions, one has to understand both how history and geography interplay in this part of the world.

HARASSMENT ALLEGATION SPECIFICS According to the released documents, Key interviewed Todd, Gordon, Benson, City Planner Stacey Welsh and City Clerk Brenda Martinez. The documents state that Todd started a handwritten log on Jan. 22 after she received an email from Gordon that

she called “disturbingâ€? and “unprofessionalâ€? and that ended with: “Know that, as I was falling asleep last night, a tear came to my eyes. I fell asleep happier than I have been in some time. I’m so proud of you! Now carry on‌â€? “The email was very disturbing to me and struck me as being very inappropriate and unprofessional,â€? Todd wrote. “The comments about my appearance and about thinking about me as he was going to sleep were unwelcome and creepy.â€? Todd also reported a joke Gordon told her that involved sex toys. She said the story and email “were unwelcome.â€? Todd also noted that the most alarming emails came on Super Bowl Sunday, when the Mayor asked her to go on a “field tripâ€? to look at issues associated

with Abrams Road. Todd wondered on Gordon’s motives with “field trip� because he’d refused to visit the city facilities previously but then invited her on the “field trip� alone in the dark. She also felt a tone in the Super Bowl email hinted that their relationship was more personal than professional. “She said she believed his comments were similar to those between a husband and wife or boyfriend and girlfriend,� Key wrote. Gordon told Key he was unaware that Todd was bothered by any comments and denied any wrongdoing or sexual intent in his emails or any conversations. The “field trip� email explicitly stated that the pair should start at 4 p.m. in order to catch as much daylight as possible. Todd said in the documents that she had concerns over being with the mayor in City Hall because, “I believe that he could be unpredictable.� Todd also told Key during the investigation that Gordon’s behaviors and

comments “escalated since she was hired.� She commented in her notes that she wondered whether the mayor “was just clueless about working with professional women and didn’t realize how inappropriate the story was in the context of a professional working relationship.� Gordon told Key that he sometimes tries to use levity to ease the stressful government environment. He also denied telling Todd she was his “prized possession or trophy.� “He said he did tell her he was very proud, because hiring her was the first thing he did in exercising his authority as mayor,� Key wrote. “He said he may have told her she was his accomplishment.� Benson told the investigator that Gordon has been a “loose cannon� since day one and calls himself the “Chief Executive Officer of the City.� She felt Gordon’s emails were “very inappropriate� and that she trusts Todd. When asked which event he’s best at, Daniels responded: “Everything, actually.� “Typical jock answer,� Milat responded with a laugh. Daniels spends his money on things he enjoys: soda, Gatorade, tickets to hockey and baseball games and sports paraphernalia. “They’re not necessities; they’re things he wants to have,� said Skyler’s dad, Steve Daniels. Skyler’s parents admit they never believed a working experience was possible for their son. When they found out he’d be working at Maple Valley Fitness, his mom, Jodi, cried. “When you’re told your child has special needs you sort of give up a little bit of hope for normalcy,� Jodi said. “It was a chance for him to have a normal life. It

was pretty exciting for me.� Jodi said she can’t help but want to protect Skyler from hurting himself. It’s a sentiment most mothers can appreciate, but it’s even stronger when that child doesn’t quite understand the risks the same way others might. She recognizes that her concerns might be Skyler’s biggest disability. “He proves me wrong on a regular basis and I thoroughly enjoy that,� she said. “He changes my perspective and my view everyday on life because of the way he chooses to see things.� Daniels has convinced his mom and sister to join the Maple Valley gym, as well as his former job coach Jessica Lex, who he helped through the membership process himself. “Skyler is one of the most enthusiastic participants I’ve ever worked with,� Lex said. Daniels hopes to some-

day work at the gym fulltime. Milat is careful not to put a cap on Daniels’ future roles and said the next step will be working fill-in shifts, possibly without any manager oversight. As Daniels finished his rounds with the broom, he ended up at the front desk. The phone rang and he looked to his co-worker and former Kentlake classmate Miranda Hallock. She gave Daniels a friendly “go for it� nod toward the phone. Daniels picked up and greeted the caller. He listened for a bit before calmly placing the customer on hold. “He wants to cancel his membership,� Daniels told Hallock. “Did you tell him no, he can’t?� Hallock asked with a grin. Daniels passed off the phone and grabbed the broom handle; his giggling smile leading the way.

[ MAYOR from page 6] Todd reported several emails and voicemails from the mayor in which he stated he was “very concerned about me” as well as a separate email said she had “hurt his feelings.” Todd said she came up with strategies to avoid being alone with the mayor. DiJulio also scheduled anti-harassment trainings.

ULTERIOR MOTIVES FOR CLAIM? Gordon told Key that he thought he and Todd have a “very good working relationship” and said he believed Todd’s harassment claim was triggered by his decision to bypass her in decisions related demoting Welsh and placing Martinez on administrative leave. “He believed his employment decisions were the reason Ms. Todd filed her complaint,” he said. According to the documents, Gordon told Key that he wanted to offer Welsh an incentive to stay on as an employee, while,

he believed, Todd wanted her fired. The disagreement, Gordon said, led to Todd placing Martinez on administrative leave, which Gordon later overruled. Martinez told Key that she was placed on administrative leave by Todd without an explaining why. Martinez said she had no problem working with Todd but that she “is very direct and in some cases she (Martinez) and others have felt as if they are being interrogated.” Welsh made similar statements. Key wrote that Gordon felt Todd was trying to protect herself as a “whistleblower” in order to “guarantee her employment.” “Mayor Gordon was clearly shaken by these allegations and regretted doing anything that could jeopardize his relationship with Ms. Todd, whom he views as a key part of his administration,” Key wrote. Key wrote it was clear that Gordon did not realize Todd’s complaint was for sexual harassment. “Mayor Gordon appeared shocked that

his actions, behaviors or comments would be interpreted by her as sexually suggestive,” Key wrote. According to the documents, Todd’s attorney, Jeff Downer, wrote that his client does not intend to make any claim for money damages or to file a lawsuit, but, “Should Ms. Todd suffer continuing unwelcome harassing conduct or any retaliation, Ms. Todd reserves the right to make a claim for money damages or to sue.” He wrote that Todd is entitled to have the behavior stop permanently and to be free of retaliation and for the city to “take serious remedial measures to prevent its future occurrence.” Downer told The Reporter the investigation is still pending and no conclusions have been reached. “We have to let the process play out,” he said.

PUBLIC ASKS THAT THE FIGHTING END At the April 17 City Council meeting, members of the public lectured the council, mayor and city administrator for their inability to work together and “childish” antics. Councilman Ron Taylor had brought a resolution to the table that would have temporarily restricted the mayor’s ability to sign contracts without the council’s approval. Taylor said despite the common belief, the motion was “not out of spite,” but because the city is hemorrhaging money. “(I) think it is very necessary for the council to somehow establish some sort of check,” Taylor said.

Benson said she has been asked by the city’s attorney not to comment on specifics of the investigation, but told The Reporter that she believes the council will be able to move forward no matter what the investigation finds. “I don’t think there is one side versus the other any longer,” Benson said. “I think the air has been cleared from the standpoint that we have a relationship with the mayor now. It isn’t him against us.”

The sound is audible into the stands. It’s odd. And intimidating. And habit. Kendall Goodwin walks once around the pitchers mound and whips her arm upwards in a circle, slamming the ball into her gloved left hand. THWACK. She licks her fingers and rubs them into the dirt. She turns to the batter’s box and repeats the whipping motion. THWACK She gnaws her mouth guard and stares towards the batter’s box. She’s ready for the next pitch. “It’s a focus thing,” Goodwin said. “I’ve done it forever and I don’t know why.” Goodwin, a junior, is in her third year on the Kentwood varsity fastpitch softball team,

but has been perfecting her unorthodox concentration method since learning to pitch in second grade. An injury shortened her 2013 season, but not enough to keep her from being named to the South Puget Sound League 4A North second team. She finished as a firstteamer in 2012. Over 63 innings in conference play this year, Goodwin has posted a remarkable 1.11 ERA, with 110 strikeouts compared to just 17 walks. Goodwin insists the imposing routine isn’t supposed to frighten the hitters, even if that is the affect. She does it all without thinking: The torpedo arm swing gets her mind ready, while the saliva and dirt on her fingers help with grip. The mouth guard? Well, that she just finds annoying.

“My friends make fun of me; it feels weird if I don’t do it,” she said. “I’ve been told it’s intimidating, but I don’t do it because it’s intimidating.” The hard-throwing Goodwin has been the key to the Kentwood girl softball team’s resurgence after a disappointing 7-9 campaign in 2013. They sit in second place behind powerhouse Tahoma, which has not only one all 14 games this season, as of press team Tuesday, but 27 straight conference games, stringing back to the first game of 2013. The Conks gave the Bears one of its biggest scares of this season on April 15. Tahoma scored six of its seven runs in one inning against sloppy Kentwood defense to win 7-5. A rematch is scheduled May 6. Tahoma finished third in state last sea-

“It’s a high stress thing for (the robber), too,” he said. Klason said police are attempting to pull video from the store and are looking for usable finger prints. He said the King County Sheriff ’s Office Major Crime Unit will be handling the case. Klason said police will be looking for patterns and connections with recent robberies in other jurisdictions. Information on the suspect is limited because he was reportedly dressed in all dark clothing and had his face

covered. He was described as being between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall, with, possibly, brown hair. Klason said his biggest concern is that robbery suspects don’t typically stop after a successful theft. “In all likelihood, anyone that performs an armed robbery is already desperate,” Klason said. “This guy clearly demonstrated that he is dangerous.” An employee at the 76/Circle K directed questions to the corporate office in Los Angeles.

Still, unlike last season, Wiser said his team as a whole has managed to stay out of the training room this season. “If we can put it together in playoffs I don’t think anyone will want to go up against us, especially with the way Kendall is throwing,” Wiser said. “She definitely has a presence about her when she’s in the circle. her success.” Before the Conks can expect to take down the giants, they will need to find more consistency. Half of its starting lineup features six first-time varsity players. The inexperience showed when they were shutout by sixth-place Kentlake on April 23. Wiser said the Falcons are no slouch and are a team he expects to face again in the playoffs. “We were missing some players and some were playing out of position, but it doesn’t matter when you don’t score any runs,” Wiser said. “It was an off day and we will need to come back. We’ll see them in the playoffs and will have to deal with them another time.” If they do meet in the postseason, the Falcons should expect Goodwin to be the one glaring down from the mound, THWACKing her glove all the way through for a title run. “I’m ready to do whatever the team needs me to do,” she said.

CHAMBER NEWS Our April Luncheon featured Rebecca Okelo of Med25 International, an organization that improves health one community at a time. Our April After Hours was hosted by Covington Place Senior Apartments. Guests toured the facility and enjoyed great food and beverages provided by Covington Place and left with a goody bag at the end of the night. At the end of the month, the City of Covington and the Chamber came together to hold our Spring Business Breakfast. Business leaders in the community received tips on how to market their businesses the right way! Our next luncheon will be about creating relationships that sell, presented by Stephanie Owens, coach, speaker, and author. Also join us at our May After Hours Mocktail Mix Up hosted by Sears Home Appliance Showroom and Elements NW Events. It’s going to be an evening full of fun! Save the Date for our 2014 VIP Night at the Ballgame on August 21. More information will be posted soon! We are also pleased to introduce our new Chamber Manager, Kellie Andersen who joined us at the end of April! She is eager to get out into the community and meet everyone.
