A Message from the Mayor Auburn. What thoughts and images does the word evoke to you? Home? Inviting? Creative? Inclusive? Changing? Home. Webster’s Dictionary defines Home as "the place (such as a house or apartment) where a person lives; a family living together in one building, house, etc., or a place where something normally or naturally lives or is located." A home is so much more than the definition in the dictionary. Home should bring to mind a place of comfort, security and opportunity. Inviting. We have grown from a sleepy little town of 12,000 back in the late 1960s to a city of regional significance with approximately 74,000 people in 2014. My hope is that when you think of Auburn, you think of your home with pride. Every city has opportunities to do better - Auburn included, but there's so much goodness, too. We are

We are also home to The Boeing Company and numerous aerospace related businesses, as well as unique shops and restaurants. Creative. The cultural arts community is thriving in Auburn! District Motto: Engage, Educate, Empower Welcome to the Auburn School District! The ASD is renowned for providing quality educational programs to all students by well-trained, highly educated staff. The district and the communities it serves work together to ensure the continuation of these high standards of service. The ASD encompasses a 62-mile area bridging two counties, King and Pierce. The district serves approximately 75,000 residents in Auburn, Algona, Pacific, Lake Tapps and unincorporated areas of King County and is committed to providing its 14,971 students with a world-class education. All Auburn schools offer full-day kindergarten to strengthen early learning. Middle-school students benefit from a relevant, individualized learning
environment to accelerate learning. The district provides comprehensive course offerings of advanced placement, honors, career and technical education and intervention classes for high school students. Our strategic plan emphasizes the district’s commitment to academic achievement, community engagement and resource management. All district staff work daily to implement the goals and objectives of the strategic plan. We consistently have some of the highest test scores in the state for reading and mathematics. Honoring veterans is an annual tradition in the City of Auburn. For the past 48 years, the Veterans Day Parade has acknowledged the sacrifices made by American veterans, past and present, with one of the largest processions west of the Mississippi. The mile-long parade typically lasts about two hours and features marching bands, ROTC units, re-enactors, active military units and military vehicles from all eras. The 49th edition of the tradition will be Nov. 8, 2014 on Main Street.

Senior center offers many services, opportunities options, volleyball, Wii Bowling, kayaking, Pickle ball and drop-in play in the pool room. The Senior Activity Center hosts a variety of special events and luncheon celebrations. There is a daily lunch program, a monthly supper club, and a monthly coffee hour with the Mayor and Auburn City Councilmembers. The Auburn Senior Activity Center enhances the quality of life of senior adults in the Auburn community through social, recreational, health and wellness, educational, and nutritional services and programs. Located at 808 Ninth Street SE, the Center serves individuals 50 and over for a variety of activities and social needs. Growing community Providing recreational opportunities for a growing community has long been a priority in Auburn. In 2014 the city broke ground on the Auburn Community Center in Les Gove Park, with a target opening date of May of 2015.. The $12 million project, a one-story, 20,100-square-foot building where the YMCA
building once stood adjacent to the park, will include: • An 8,000-square foot gathering place that can accommodate as many as 450 people, looking out on the park, equipped with sliding doors that open on a patio. • A lobby area, an administration area, two classrooms and a warming kitchen.

Emerald Downs sets $1.6 million stakes schedule A 29-race stakes schedule featuring the 79th renewal of the $200,000 Longacres Mile (Grade 3), three stakes doubleheaders and Washington Cup XII has been announced for the 2014 season at Emerald Downs. Beginning with the $50,000 Hastings Handicap for older fillies and mares on Sunday, May 11, and ending with a stakes double-header for 2-year-olds on closing day, Sunday, Sept. 28, a total of $1,610,000 will be offered in stakes purses. Twenty-six stakes are scheduled on Sundays, including the $200,000 Longacres Mile on Sunday, Aug.24. Auburn Public Transportation King County Metro Transit http://metro.kingcounty.gov/ Metro Transit is the local transit operator for King County, providing local bus services that link destinations within the community and provide regional connections at the downtown Auburn Transit Center and the Auburn 15th ST NW Park & Ride. Metro Transit has more than ten bus routes serving Auburn, including some DART routes. Two transit routes have teamed up to provide Auburn residents and visitors access to some of Auburn's most popular destinations. Metro routes 910 and 919and provide service to the Auburn SuperMall, YMCA, Auburn Library, Auburn Senior Center, Downtown Auburn, and the North Auburn Business District.
DART DART (Dial-A-Ride Transit) offers variable routing in some areas within King County. By using vans that can go off regular routes to pick up and drop off passengers within a defined service area, DART service may allow you to arrange for transit service closer to a location. DART does not go door-to-door. It operates on a fixed schedule, but one that has more flexibility than regular Metro Transit buses. The cost for DART service is the same as regular bus rides on Metro and is available to everyone. To use DART, call toll-free 1-866-261-DART(3278) or 1-800-246-1646 (TTY). ACCESS Metro Transit also operates ACCESS Transportation, a paratransit service providing door-to-door, shared-ride van transportation within most of King County. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires curb-
to-curb paratransit service as a safety net for persons whose disabilities prevent use of accessible noncommuter, fixed-route bus service. Complementary paratransit service is intended to offer a comparable level of service to that provided by regular bus service. SOUND TRANSIT (SOUNDER TRAIN) Sound Transit operates the Sounder commuter rail service on the Tacoma-Seattle route via the BNSF Railway. Sound Transit provides weekday peak-hour trips northbound to Seattle in the AM and southbound to Tacoma in the PM. Additional special-event service to and from games for the Mariners, Seahawks and Sounders FC is offered on selected weekends. Currently, nine trains operate in each direction between Tacoma and Seattle each weekday completing the commuter rail service specified in Sound Move, Sound Transit's Phase I investment package.

49th Veterans Day Parade & Observance
One of the largest Veterans Day Parades west of the Mississippi, the milelong Veterans Day Parade proceeds
west on Main Street from E Street SE to A Street NW in Auburn and will include a military fly-over, marching bands, honor guards, military marching units and vehicles, veterans units, drill teams, community and scouting groups, as well as floats, antique cars and more. The day kicks off with a breakfast, sponsored by the American Legion, which is followed by a Remembrance Ceremony. A Static Display & Exhibit Showcase is held along the parade route from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The Auburn Noon Lions Luncheon and an open house at the VFW follow the parade. The day is complete after the state’s largest Marching Band and Field Competition awards its winners at Auburn High School Stadium. Santa Parade
A festive and fun children’s parade, which is followed by a community caroling and the lighting of the City Hall Christmas tree and City Hall lighting show. Pre-parade entertainment starts at 4:00pm in front of City Hall. Join us before the parade at the Snack and Craft event from 2-4pm at Washington Elementary.
