The last word in trendy outings What’s “in” is constantly changing when it comes to good food and trendy outings. Here are a few great ideas if you’re on the lookout for original and fun things to do.
You’ve probably already noticed the return of typically masculine fare in bars as well as in stylish restaurants. “Woodsman” cuisine is now in the spotlight, in direct competition with the health-food craze of the last few years. Don’t be surprised to see menus featuring cuts of meat such as whole piglet, pig’s feet, marrow bone, as well as wild game meats including venison, bison, rabbit, and elk. Another growing trend is traditional and regional cuisine, where oldfashioned classics are revamped with modern ingredients and locally grown produce. These types of meals can be enjoyed in a variety of settings, including urban warehouses with modern decors and renovated rustic log cabins. Niche restaurants, which serve only one type of meal, are also very much the trend. For example, there are restaurants that only serve soups, meatballs, or desserts. Spe cialty ice cream restaurants might serve up some foie gras ice cream or bacon crème brulée! Cupcakes and macaroons are still all the rage for a sweet tooth, but cake pops, little cakes on sticks, are gradually stealing the spotlight. Different themes for evening entertainment are becoming common, such as pubs that serve tapas all evening, wine bars that offer wine tasting, and vintage bars where retro themes include the 1950s or 1920s. And some dance bars feature all 1980s music for true disco fans. Kirkland Reporter • 2014
For a twist, choose a pub where tapas are served all evening or a bar where dozens of wines can be tasted.

Fresh is good, but fresh AND organic is even better
Finding produce that is as fresh as possible is a much simpler task during the summer. At this time of year, local produce of unparalleled freshness and taste can be found in abundance. However, if your health and the health of the planet are as important to you as flavour, maybe you should give organic produce a try.

Your quest for fresh organic foods will allow you to discover specialized boutiques and local producers who raise or cultivate what is so good for us. You might find a butcher, for example, who sells organic meat produced by sustainable agricultural methods.
