City of Tacoma News Tacoma City Council to discuss employee retirement program Tacoma City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday at City Hall to receive an update from City of Tacoma Employees Retirement System (TERS) Director Monica Butler on a supplement to the TERS Comprehensive Annual Financial Report distributed to Tacoma City Council in June. Additionally, staff in Tacoma's City Clerk's Office review a project under way to revamp Tacoma City Council's agenda and meeting process through the implementation of new software. Councilmembers will not take public comment during the study session, which will be held on Tues., Sept. 10 at 12 p.m. in Room 16 of Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St. Audio from the meeting will be broadcast live on TV Tacoma and online at tvtacoma.com. On-demand audio archives are available on the Web within 24 hours of the meeting online at tvtacoma.com. Tacoma Fire Department to host 9/11 ceremony The Tacoma Fire Department will host a public remembrance ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Weds., Sept. 11 at Marine Park, located at 4301 Ruston Way, to mark the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Tacoma City Councilmember Robert Thoms and Tacoma Fire Chief James P. Duggan will be present to deliver remarks. Campaign aims to increase Pierce Transit safety Photo Courtesy Pierce County Pierce Transit and the Tacoma Police Department have implemented "NOT ON OUR BUS," a zero-tolerance emphasis on unlawful and disruptive conduct on buses, at transit centers, and at bus stops near high schools. Uniformed Pierce Transit police officers, Pierce Transit security officers, Pierce Transit service supervisors, and Tacoma police officers will increase their presence on buses and conduct spot checks of bus stops and boarding areas. Undercover officers will also be riding buses and monitoring transit centers to enforce the State of Washington's Unlawful Transit Conduct Code, the City of Tacoma's Unlawful Transit Conduct Code, and Pierce Transit ridership policies. Individuals who violate the Unlawful Transit Conduct Codes may be held immediately accountable by exclusion from Pierce Transit services for 90 days. The "NOT ON OUR BUS" effort was implemented in 2009 to address quality of life issues on buses, at transit centers, and at bus stops near certain high schools. According to Pierce

Transit officials, the program has been highly successful and has yielded a safer transit environment for student passengers and the general public. The current "NOT ON OUR BUS" program runs through Fri., Sept. 13. The following routes, facilities, and schools will be prioritized, although the "NOT ON OUR BUS" emphasis might be expanded to other locations as needed: Pierce Transit Routes | 1, 2, 10, 11, 16, 42, 51, and 53. Pierce Transit Facilities | Lakewood Mall Transit Center, Tacoma Community College Transit Center, South Hill Mall Transit Center, Tacoma Mall Transit Center, Commerce Street Transit Center, and Tacoma Dome Station. Area High Schools | Foss High School, Lincoln High School, Oakland High School, SAMI, Stadium High School, Wilson High School, Clover Park High School, and Franklin Pierce High School. More information is available online at piercetransit.org/its-law.
