FlexLink Launches Online Store to Simplify the Purchase of Material Handling Systems The Coesia Company (Booth S-2501) introduces a platform designed for selecting, configuring, and purchasing conveyors and components in just a few clicks. Identifying and ordering the conveyor best suited to specific needs quickly and intuitively: This is the goal of the new FlexLink (Booth S-2501) Online Store. FlexLink is an expert in the design and manufacture of automation and material handling systems for industries such as FMCG, pharma, automotive, tissue, and optical. An automated and efficient transport system has a direct impact on two key indicators for any production line: OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). In the FMCG, pharma, automotive, tissue, and optical sectors, material handling significantly affect energy consumption and operating costs. The adoption of efficient motors and drives, or the selection of appropriate conveyor systems, can reduce electricity consumption by up to 20–25 percent, with tangible benefits also in terms of component wear and scheduled maintenance.

FlexLink’s Online Store has been designed to help industrial customers identify the material handling solution that best fits their specific requirements.

A guided process to find the best solution

The platform follows a structured, step-by-step approach. Once the reference industry has been identified, users are asked what type of product needs to be conveyed. The system then collects key physical characteristics (material, weight, dimensions, sensitivity to contamination) and considers the production environment in which the system will operate (wet, dry, with the presence of oils, or in a clean room). Based on this information, the Online Store suggests the most suitable platforms, conveyor types, design variants, and required accessories. Customers do not need to browse through dozens of components: the platform proposes a configuration already aligned with the production requirements, reducing time, risk of errors, and technical complexity.

Two integrated levels to guide configuration

The platform operates on two integrated levels. The first helps customers identify the correct solution based on application criteria. The second, more technical level allows users to define quantities, component families, variants, and accessories, all the way through to requesting a quotation or confirming an order. Everything takes place directly online through a web interface designed to combine ease of use with technical consistency.

Advanced digital tools to support design The Online Store integrates a three-dimensional configurator that updates the visualization of the conveyor system in real time and enables a fast transition to quotation requests or order placement. The digital experience is aligned with FlexLink’s commercial processes and helps streamline the design phase, supporting faster, consistent, and technically sound decisions.

Starview Packaging Machinery Celebrates Milestone Starview Packaging Machinery, Inc. (Booth N-5535), is celebrating 35 years in business this year—a milestone that traces the company’s journey from a small operation in Mario and Terry Carlomusto’s garage to a worldwide supplier of innovative packaging machinery, tooling and systems. Founded in August 1991 by Mario Carlomusto, Starview began as a family business with a simple but ambitious goal: design and build quality packaging machinery that solved real customer needs. Mario’s wife, Terry Carlomusto, worked alongside him from the beginning and continues to play an important role today as Controller/Finance. Together, Mario and Terry helped establish the foundation for what Starview would become. The company’s first machine was a 6 Station Rotary Blister Sealing Machine built in Mario’s garage. That was soon followed by small shuttle blister sealing machines, establishing the foundation for Starview’s expertise in heat-sealing packaging machinery. The company grew throughout the 1990s, with more complex blister card sealing machines. Growth brought change over the years that turned into six (6) machine product groups sold worldwide, with the Americas representing its largest market.

A Family Business Built to Last

Thirty-five years after its founding, Starview remains a family-owned and operated company. Eric Carlomusto joined Starview full-time in 2004 and serves as Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Steve Carlomusto joined the company full-time in 2011 and serves as Director of Operations. Together, Eric and Steve manage the company’s day-to-day operations while working alongside their parents to guide Starview’s continued growth. General Packaging & Processing OneLock™ All‑in‑One Closure

Colorcon (Booth W-23070) For decades, pharmaceutical packaging has relied on multi-component systems including bottle, desiccant, induction seal, and closure. OneLock consolidates these four essential packaging functions into one smart, ready-to-use closure. An integrated desiccant delivers reliable moisture protection for sensitive solid oral dose products. A child-resistant, senior-friendly push-and-turn design ensures safe and accessible use. A tamperevident disk provides clear, visual confirmation of first opening. Compatibility with standard SP 33/400 bottles eliminates the need for dedicated containers, enabling seamless adoption across global markets. The result is a streamlined packaging process with no desiccant insertion, no induction sealing, fewer components, and reduced chance for error. Manufacturers benefit from simplified operations, faster line efficiency, and easier scale-up, while supporting global harmonization strategies. It also reduces packaging variability across regions, helping teams standardize formats and accelerate product launches worldwide.

OneLock™ also enhances the patient experience. Intuitive usability and visible tamper evidence reinforce confidence in product integrity from production through first use. At the same time, reducing components and process steps supports a lower material and environmental footprint. Fewer materials, fewer steps, and simplified logistics contribute to a more efficient and sustainable packaging approach without compromising performance.

PMG RFID FlagTag

PMG Labels (Booth LU-6622) The PMG RFID FlagTag is innovative because it redefines antenna architecture to overcome electromagnetic interference, the primary barrier to conventional RFID tracking. Standard flat labels fail when applied directly to metal, glass, or liquid-filled containers because the underlying material disrupts signal transmission. PMG’s internal engineering team solved this by developing a unique, flag-shaped label design. Instead of laying flush against the product, the PMG RFID FlagTag extends the RFID antenna laterally away from the application point. This indirect positioning completely eliminates contact with disruptive materials, restoring reliable, flawless read performance on previously incompatible surfaces. The innovation also extends to its physical and functional design:

• High-Density Bulk Detection: The protruding antenna maintains consistent readability even when items are tightly stacked on shelves or in smart cabinets—environments where standard flat labels lose signal. • Dual-Zone Architecture: The white, adhesive-free upper zone allows for clean thermal transfer printing, while the highly transparent lower adhesive zone preserves product branding and packaging aesthetics. • Extreme Durability: Engineered to withstand extreme environments, it maintains full performance in temperatures ranging from -40°F to 185°F (-40°C to +85°C), making it ideal for cold chain logistics and industrial manufacturing. • Delivered on standard PET carriers, the PMG RFID FlagTag integrates seamlessly into existing printer and encoding infrastructure, requiring no new equipment investments while expanding RFID tracking into previously inaccessible verticals. —Continued on page 18

General Packaging & Processing Be-Fill

ZACMI - ZANICHELLI MECCANICA SPA (Booth S-3847) Most manufacturers are forced to choose between flexibility and efficiency. Running oxygen-sensitive beverages, carbonated products, and hot-fill applications often requires separate systems, extensive changeovers, or compromises in production capabilities. The Zacmi BE-FILL eliminates those tradeoffs. Rather than relying on a single valve design, the BE-FILL uses three purpose-built valve families optimized for different beverage categories. This allows manufacturers to support a broader range of beverages from a single platform while maintaining

product quality and operational performance. The dual-channel flushing valve helps minimize dissolved oxygen and reduce CO2 consumption. The internal recirculation valve enables both hot-fill and carbonated production on the same platform,

helping manufacturers avoid the cost and complexity associated with separate filling lines. The platform also addresses downtime caused by compressed air interruptions. A mechanical emergency cam allows production to continue during these events, helping protect productivity. The bowless design eliminates the product bowl found on traditional fillers, directly minimizing the volume of product lost during recipe changes without relying on additional process steps or operator intervention. When paired with the Zacmi seamer, the BEFILL becomes a fully integrated fill-and-seal solution supported by a single supplier. Unified controls, one warranty, and one service organization simplify ownership and support across the entire system.

Food/Beverage CUBO with Click In Sealing Lid

DX-Series Digital Printing

Hinterkopf GmbH (Booth W-38056) The DX Series addresses a core limitation in the industrial decoration of cylindrical packaging: The economic constraints of producing highly customized containers in environments with increasing SKU variation, regional differentiation, and short-run demand. The system enables 360-degree digital printing at up to 1,500 dpi on cylindrical containers made of aluminum, steel, and plastic. It covers diameters from 9 to 165 mm and container lengths from 60 to 240 mm. A key technical differentiator is its formatindependent production approach. The system operates without format-specific tooling. All printheads run simultaneously regardless of container geometry, and automatic format adaptation supports

Greiner Packaging Corporation (Booth W-46052) The innovation of the combined CUBO and Click In sealing lid solution lies in its system-level approach, rethinking both packaging geometry and closure design to deliver tangible improvements across the value chain. CUBO introduces a fundamental shift from round to square cup design. While round cups are the established industry standard, they inherently create unused space when stacked or transported. CUBO eliminates this inefficiency by enabling tighter packing, allowing up to 35% more cups per pallet compared to a standard round cup of the same size and volume. This demonstrates that innovation in food packaging can be achieved not by adding complexity, but by optimizing geometry to improve system performance.

The Click In sealing lid complements this concept by simplifying conventional closure systems. Traditional packaging relies on three components—container, sealing foil, and lid—whereas Click In reduces this to just two. This redesign streamlines production, reduces handling steps, and minimizes potential sources of error. At the same time, the lid introduces a distinctive engagement mechanism: it sits inside the rim and provides a tactile and audible “click” when securely closed, ensuring reliable sealing and enabling repeated use without compromising performance. Instead of optimizing individual components, CUBO and Click In sealing lid create a unified system that integrates logistics efficiency, operational simplicity, and consumer functionality. This holistic approach sets a new benchmark for food packaging design, demonstrating how coordinated innovations can deliver measurable benefits across production, distribution, retail, and consumption.

rapid changeovers between different container sizes and designs. This architecture removes tooling-related setup steps and reduces downtime between production jobs. It enables economically viable short-run and variable-data production within an industrial packaging environment. The DX Series is designed for applications requiring high variability rather than maximum volume efficiency. These include personalized packaging, limited editions, regional campaigns, product launches, and test market executions. It enables can makers, tube producers, fillers, and brand owners to execute frequent design changes and market-specific packaging strategies within existing production workflows. The system supports a shift toward demand-driven packaging production, where output is defined by

market requirements rather than tooling constraints or long-run economics. In addition, the fully digital workflow changes operational requirements from process-specific printing expertise toward digital skills, data management, and workflow control, supporting the next generation of manufacturing talent. —Continued on page 20

By fusing a decorated film layer directly onto an extruded polyethylene tube, the decorative layer becomes part of the tube structure during manufacturing—enabling highend graphics, material reduction and streamlined production without added layers or secondary processes. The impact is clear and measurable. With potential to reduce sidewall thickness by more than 30%, DecoFusion™ achieves up to 27% weight savings compared to standard tubes. In a typical 6” polyethylene tube, this could equate to a 4.4-gram reduction per unit. At scale—20 million units—this translates to an annual reduction of up to 167 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, demonstrating meaningful lifecycle impact through lower material usage and transportation emissions. DecoFusion™ also supports circularity by enabling up to 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content while maintaining a premium appearance. The fused decorative layer helps conceal visual variation associated with recycled materials, allowing brands to increase PCR usage without compromising shelf appeal. When paired with an HDPE closure, DecoFusion™ creates an all-polyethylene package that improves compatibility with existing recycling streams, reduces contamination and supports higher-quality recycled outputs. The technology preserves the tactile feel, durability and resilience expected from extruded polyethylene tubes while enabling advanced decoration, including high-end flexography, foiling and specialty finishes. DecoFusion™ gives brands one solution to reduce material, increase circularity and maintain premium design—delivering environmental impact at scale without sacrificing performance, efficiency or visual quality. —Continued on page 22

Sustainability ECO LITE Drums

CurTec USA, LLC (Booth W-25056) The innovation behind ECO LITE drums lies in solving a long-standing engineering challenge: how to significantly reduce the environmental impact of industrial packaging without compromising the mechanical performance required for pharmaceutical and specialty chemical applications. Instead of simply reducing wall thickness, CurTec completely redesigned the drum architecture using Design for Sustainability principles. Two major technical breakthroughs made this possible. The first was replacing the conventional EPDM gasket with a newly developed integrated HDPE gasket produced during the injection molding process. Using in-house finite element analysis (FEA) and extensive prototyping, CurTec developed a sealing geometry that maintains acceptable closing forces, sealing performance and moisture protection while enabling a 100% mono-material construction. The second breakthrough was achieving a 25% weight reduction while maintaining UN-certified stacking and drop-test performance. This was accomplished through FEA-driven geometry optimization and the introduction of PWDS blow-molding technology, enabling a much more uniform wall thickness distribution and eliminating unnecessary material without reducing strength. Together, these innovations created a new platform for sustainable industrial packaging. ECO LITE drums combine 30% biobased material, 25% weight reduction and improved pallet efficiency, leading to a 30% lower CO₂ footprint, while maintaining the performance, reliability and regulatory compliance required in pharmaceutical supply chains. The integrated gasket design also provides a technology platform for future CurTec product developments.

Intelligent Sustainable Fish Transport System with PetriTag®

Embalagem do Futuro® (Booth LL-9304) This solution is innovative because it integrates sustainability, intelligent monitoring, and biological sensing into a single packaging system, something not currently achieved in conventional cold chain logistics. First, it replaces single-use packaging with a reusable isothermal EPP box made partially from recycled fishing industry waste, transforming by-products into highvalue insulation while significantly reducing environmental impact. Second, it introduces PetriTag®, a breakthrough in smart packaging: a paper-based, biodegradable label that detects bacterial contamination in real time through visible color changes. Unlike traditional expiration dates or digital sensors, it provides direct biological insight, enabling detection of spoilage up to two days in advance and allowing better decision-making on product usability. Third, the system combines this biological layer with IoT-enabled traceability, capturing temperature, geolocation, and logistics data. This creates a multi-dimensional monitoring approach where physical, digital, and biological parameters are tracked simultaneously. The innovation lies not only in each component but in their seamless integration into a circular, scalable system. By merging reusable materials, waste valorization, realtime sensing, and digital traceability, it enables a smarter, safer, and more sustainable seafood supply chain.

A Cleaner Tear for MonoMaterial MDO-PE Packaging How Official Sustainability Sponsor Dow addressed a widespread consumer challenge with recyclable mono-material packaging.

As brands work to comply with emerging extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulations and respond to consumer preferences for recycle-ready packaging, many are looking to replace traditional multi-material structures with simpler, allpolyethylene alternatives that comply with existing design guidelines and recycling infrastructure. For consumer packaging, those alternatives still need to look good, feel sturdy and perform reliably. Consumers expect packages that open easily and tear cleanly from edge to edge, creating a simple, smooth, and satisfying experience. Meeting this expectation has been difficult to achieve with a mono-material PE film. Machine direction orientation (MDO) has emerged as a technology that allows polyethylene (PE) films to deliver the clarity, strength and print quality brands expect, while supporting a simpler material structure that can align with packaging and sustainability goals. To date, conventional MDO-PE films can tear unevenly, require more force to open or leave jagged edges, creating a frustrating experience for consumers. In some cases, scissors are needed to open the package cleanly. For brand owners, that usability challenge has become a key barrier to broader adoption of mono-material polyethylene packaging. Dow customer American Packaging Corporation (APC) heard this challenge directly from brand owners. Brand owners wanted packaging designed for recyclability without compromising the intuitive, frustration-free opening experience consumers expect. APC shared this market need with Dow, and the teams worked together to develop an MDO-PE film that delivers the same clean, controlled tear associated with conventional polyester laminate packaging.

Solution

Dow brought the challenge to its Pack Studios, where customers collaborate with Dow specialists to accelerate packaging innovation through commercial-scale development and testing. There, the team set out to solve a problem that had limited broader adoption of mono-material polyethylene packaging. Using the Pack Studios MDO line, Dow’s scientists developed a proprietary film formulation that builds easy-tear functionality directly into the film itself. Rather than relying on costly and labor-intensive laser scoring or perforation after production, the film is engineered to offer a clean, controlled tear while maintaining the strength and performance required for flexible packaging. By eliminating the need for laser scoring or perforation, the technology can simplify converting and reduce manufacturing complexity, making it easier to integrate into existing production workflows. “For years, the industry has been working to make flexible packaging more

29 sustainable, but consumers were often asked to accept a less satisfying opening experience,” said Michelle Sauder, Dow marketing director, food and specialty packaging. “APC brought us a challenge they were hearing directly from customers, and together we found a promising approach to solve it. As policies like extended producer responsibility and California SB 54 continue to accelerate demand for packaging designed for recyclability, collaborations like this can help the industry create innovations that work for brands, consumers and the broader packaging value chain.” To validate the technology, Dow produced a roll of the easy-tear MDO-PE film for APC to evaluate. APC laminated the film, converted it into representative packaging and evaluated its performance after lamination. The laminated film offers a clean, controlled tear with performance comparable to conventional PET laminate structures, while offering the clarity, dimensional stability and package durability required by most product applications. The collaboration demonstrates how long-standing collaborations can help address industry-wide challenges and create new opportunities for packaging innovation. By combining Dow’s materials science and application development capabilities with APC’s converting capabilities and customer insight, the teams have created a promising pathway for film manufacturers, converters and brand owners to advance packaging designed for recyclability while offering the easy-open experience consumers expect. “While innovations in PE materials have significantly improved performance, challenges remain in some packaging applications, particularly around package opening,” said Jeff Travis, senior manager of innovation and sustainability, APC. “Working with APC, Dow analyzed existing solutions and developed a cost-effective, drop-in film manufacturing enhancement that delivers the desired performance without requiring more expensive, specialty materials.”

ProMach Pharma Showcases Solid Dose Packaging Line ProMach Pharma (Booth S-3852) showcases a complete oral solid dose packaging line, integrating specialized equipment while providing manufacturers with a single partner for line integration, support and service.

ProMach’s Pharma (Booth S-3852) business line is showcasing an oral solid dose packaging line, bringing together technologies from NJM (Booths S-3852, W-24010), Shuttleworth (Booth S-3650), WLS (Booths S-3854, W-24010) and Serpa (Booths S-3856, W-24010). The line counts tablets into bottles, caps and labels the bottles, loads them into cartons, and then case packs and palletizes. By taking responsibility for the complete line, ProMach Pharma gives manufacturers and contract packers one partner and point of contact for the entire packaging operation. “Customers want proven equipment at every stage of the line without the logistical burden and uncertainty that can come with managing multiple suppliers,” said Adam Rosenthal, Director of Pharma Marketing at ProMach. “ProMach brings together brands that built their reputations as specialists in their respective technologies, then gives manufacturers and packers a single organization to manage the complete project. This lowers the cost and complexity of doing business, and it provides clear accountability if something needs attention anywhere along the line.”

NJM CFE

41 ProMach Pharma focuses on packaging lines that handle liquids, powders and solid doses in formats including vials, syringes, bottles and blister packs, delivering systems for smaller-scale operations, high-speed production and highly customized applications. Depending on the project scope, the company manages pre-engineering, line design, controls integration, factory acceptance testing, installation, site acceptance testing, startup and training. The ProMach Pharma line on exhibit at PACK EXPO represents one of the most common packaging configurations for oral solid dose pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. Each machine will demonstrate its specific stage of the packaging process using samples prepared at preceding steps. The line begins with NJM’s CFE tablet counter, which integrates NJM bottle handling and controls with Cremer counting technology. This compact, economical system fills a wide variety of coated and uncoated tablets, capsules and softgels into plastic or glass bottles with 100% counting accuracy. Next, NJM’s beltorque® capper applies closures at speeds up to 250 bottles per minute. The capper combines precise torque control with gentle container handling to support consistent closure application without damaging bottles or caps. Shuttleworth’s new RallyTrak™ Rx accumulation table provides buffering between packaging machines operating at different speeds. Its plastic chain surface creates low-pressure accumulation while maintaining container orientation, allowing bottles to circulate until downstream equipment is ready to receive them. RallyTrak Rx expands ProMach Pharma’s in-house capabilities for product transport and accumulation. WLS’ RL-420 rotary labeler applies pressure-sensitive labels to bottles and more. Designed for accurate, repeatable label placement, the RL-420 supports integration with serialization, coding and track-and-trace technologies to help pharmaceutical and nutraceutical manufacturers meet application and regulatory requirements. Serpa’s P100 horizontal cartoner loads the bottles and accompanying inserts into cartons. This compact system reaches speeds up to 330 cartons per minute

WLS RL-420

and features a balcony design that provides access to drive components from one side of the machine. Its fall-through construction supports sanitary operation and pharmaceutical validation requirements. A new Serpa combination case packer and palletizer completes the line, packing cartoned bottles into cases and palletizing them for shipment within a single unit. ProMach Pharma supports customers throughout the equipment life cycle with warranty coverage, recommended spare parts, preventive maintenance programs, onsite service and ongoing technical assistance.
