You are not only our biggest advocates, but also our loyal volunteers and generous supporters. Your unwavering commitment and support are essential as we work to provide girls with educational programs and opportunities that challenge and empower

them, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make a meaningful difference in the world. This report offers us the chance to express our deep gratitude for the impact you’ve made on our girls and our community over the past year. Our focus during this period has been on the Joan Montgomery Centre, and we are thrilled to share the progress and generosity that has been at the heart of this project. In August 2024, the PLC Foundation and PLC Council hosted the Go For Gold Winter Ball, raising an impressive $100,000 which has provided the digital screen in the JMC. In mid-March 2025, the Foundation presented two cheques totaling $1.1M on behalf of Foundation members in support of the Centre.

This marks the largest single donation the Foundation has made since its founding in 1990. The Foundation has been instrumental in developing modern learning and sports facilities at the College, playing a key role in significant building projects such as the Junior School (2003), the Learning Resource Centre (2012), and the Performing Arts Centre (2017), each of which has benefited generations of PLC girls. In December 2024, the Trustees of the Estate of Annie Murray Fortune pledged a transformational gift to the Joan Montgomery Centre. Having dedicated more than six decades of her life to our College and the Old Collegians’ Association, Annie Murray Fortune selflessly contributed time, energy, and philanthropic support to help others.

Additionally, our community has demonstrated incredible generosity in other ways. In early December, families, staff, and Old Collegians united to support our sister school, Neno Girls’ Secondary School. Together, they raised $13,277 to repair the school’s boarding house roof and purchase a secondhand vehicle to ensure students and staff could be transported to the hospital in case of an emergency. We extend our sincere thanks for your continued support of our College and our girls. As we celebrate our 150th anniversary, it’s clear that the culture of philanthropy remains alive and well at PLC.

It Took a Village: Community Support Powers the Joan Montgomery Centre PLC community support played an important role in the development of the Joan Montgomery Centre. Foundation President Diana Bevington and Vice President Li-Leen Tan handed over cheques totalling $1.1M at the official opening of the Centre. This is the Foundation’s largest ever donation to the College. These funds came from all corners of our community; Foundation members, families, staff, Old Collegians, College Council, grandparents, friends and sponsors - and were raised through Foundation memberships, annual giving appeals, events including the 2024 Go For Gold Winter Ball and recent initiatives including the 150 Years Donor Wall and the 150 Circle. James Teh and wife Suki Xie recently joined the PLC Foundation to show their support for the school. “As Chloe starts her journey in Year 1 at PLC, we feel privileged to support a school that will shape her next 12 years. Contributing to the Joan Montgomery Centre is our way of saying thank you—not only for the opportunities Chloe will experience, but for the lasting impact this space will have on generations of students.”

Dr Deborah Seifert AM is an Old Collegian (1970), Council member, and member of the Foundation Board. She showed her support by adding her name to the Celebrating 150 Years Donor Wall in the Centre. “PLC has always been an outstanding school for girls. I’m proud to give back and support the school and future generations of students.” Pamela Buxton is also an Old Collegian (1960) and Trustee of the Estate of Annie Murray Fortune. “Miss Fortune was a dear friend and supporter of Joan Montgomery throughout her life. It’s very fitting to support the Centre and celebrate this enduring connection. The Joan Montgomery Centre is extraordinary and will provide superb facilities for the students at PLC for years to come.” The generosity of our community was driven by a shared belief in the health and wellbeing of PLC girls and recognition of the transformative power of sport—not just as a physical pursuit, but as a foundation for character, leadership, and community. Their support laid the groundwork, but it’s the voices of those who use the facility every day that truly bring its impact to life. Jaeleen, our Junior School Sports Captain, is excited to use the new Centre. “The new Joan Montgomery Centre is an amazing place where girls can stay active and healthy. There are so many fun activities to choose from, like basketball, gymnastics, swimming, and more. It is such a wonderful opportunity for girls to strive in physical education, bond with each other and most importantly, have fun in this new centre of ours!” Shelly Hawkins, who leads the Aquatic Program in the Centre, loves the sense of space and the quality of the facilities, which she describes as Olympic standard. “From a teaching

perspective, there are also more opportunities to use different spaces within the pools, meaning we can run multiple programs at the same time.”

Friendship, Fun and Generosity In August 2024, the PLC Foundation and the PLC Council hosted the highly anticipated Go for Gold Winter Ball, raising more than $98,000 in support of the Joan Montgomery Centre. This event marked the return of the PLC ball after nearly a decade, welcoming more than 260 guests. It was truly a memorable evening that brought together our supportive and dedicated community. The evening included auctions and a raffle with a wide range of prizes generously donated by local and PLC family businesses. The generous support of our event sponsors also contributed significantly to the success of the evening; thanks to platinum sponsor ADCO Construction, silver sponsors K2 Asset Management and RP Infrastructure, bronze sponsors Wilde & Woollard, Dumpling Chef, T.D. Noone Pty Ltd, OnTrack Sportswear, KS Environmental, and Bloom Studio of Dance, and floral sponsor Saison de Floraison. A heartfelt thank you to Quayclean who sponsored the online auction app and also donated a corporate hospitality package for use during the Boxing Day Test. This prize raised an outstanding $9,610, adding significantly to the overall funds raised from the event.

The Power of Opportunity and Education Davron Lu (2005) is an accomplished professional breaking new ground in the mining industry. Her journey at PLC is a testament to the transformative power of philanthropy and education in helping students unlock their full potential. “When I moved to Australia in 2002, I had heard of PLC, but it wasn’t until my piano teacher encouraged me to apply for a scholarship that I realised it could be a real opportunity. I joined PLC in Year 10 and received the Rae Leeming Scholarship. That scholarship was

a pivotal moment in my life—it made my dream of studying at PLC possible and allowed me to become part of a community that would shape my future in ways I never expected. At first, I studied Law and Commerce at university, but my passion for geotechnical engineering grew as I saw the mining industry booming. I shifted my focus to Law and Geotechnical Engineering, combining my legal background with engineering, especially as both fields were in high demand. It was clear to me that I could make a meaningful impact in the industry, particularly on the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) front, which was becoming more important as the industry expanded globally. Today, I manage global contracts, mergers, acquisitions, and oversee the China office of Mining One Consultancy, a company providing services to mining businesses around the world. I travel frequently to places like Africa, South America, and Ghana, but no matter where I go, I can’t forget where it all began—the scholarship that gave me access to education at PLC. Receiving the scholarship was life changing. It not only made it easier for my family to afford my education, but it also gave me the chance to be part of a close-knit community at PLC where I could grow, learn, and form friendships that have lasted a lifetime. The opportunities the school gave me were endless and I felt empowered to explore my interests and talents. My time at PLC wasn’t just about academic achievement, though. It was about being encouraged to take on challenges. The teachers fostered a ‘say yes’ attitude— encouraging us to go out into the world and embrace new experiences, even if they seemed daunting. For me, this mindset was incredibly empowering, especially when I entered the male-dominated mining industry.

The confidence I gained at PLC helped me step up when my company suggested we open a new office in China. I volunteered to take on the challenge of setting up the office, and it was an experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone and showed me how much I could handle. Looking back on my education at PLC I realise it gave me the courage to tackle any challenge and the belief that there are no limits to what women, or anyone, can achieve. The scholarship I received wasn’t just about financial assistance; it was about being given the chance to grow into the person I am today. And for that, I will always be grateful. This year marks the 20th anniversary of my time at PLC. I reflect on how far I’ve come.

I’m proud of the journey I’ve taken and thankful for the opportunities PLC provided me. The impact of philanthropy and education is real— those doors that opened for me helped me become my best self, and I hope to pass that on to others in the future.” The Rae Leeming Scholarship was established by Maisie Leeming (1937) in memory of her younger sister, Ilma Rae Leeming. An outstanding pianist, Rae received several major scholarships in recognition of her talents, including the Henderson scholarships to study at the Royal Academy of Music London. Scholarship provides vital support for Old Collegian Eden van Twest (2023) is the 2025 recipient of the Lamont Scholarship. Eden, who is in her second year of a Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging (Honours) degree at Monash University, will use the scholarship to help fund a two-month placement which is a key requirement for her course. Half of the placement will be completed in Ballarat. This scholarship will also help alleviate some financial pressures. “I am currently working three part time jobs so this will allow me to spend more time focusing on study and my academic and professional goals.” A PLC student for 14 years, Eden says PLC’s Science Department played a key role in determining her career choice. “The PLC Science Department inspired me to pursue my passion for science as a career, in particular my Year 7 Science teacher Mrs Speedy and my year 12 Physics teacher Mr Vander Pal. I hope to inspire other girls to pursue their passion and grow into women in STEM, just like so many other amazing PLC graduates before me.” The Lamont scholarship was established in 1994 through a bequest from Annie Elizabeth Lamont who, along with her sister Jean and cousin Doris, were former students of PLC Perth. The scholarship is designed to support PLC Melbourne Old Collegians in continuing their post-secondary studies and advancing their academic education.

Honouring a Legacy: A Family’s Gift to encourage young musicians Philanthropy is often driven by a desire to honour the past while enriching the future. For the Adams family, this involved establishing a perpetual prize for PLC’s Pipe Band as a tribute to their mother, Gwenneth Mary Adams (Cocks).

Gwen, who matriculated in 1946, was one of the few women admitted to the Pharmacy College, Melbourne. She later retrained as an early drug and alcohol educator with the Health Department of Victoria. Gwen became the first in her family to have a tertiary education and was a great advocate for education.

The family was present to witness the inaugural presentation of the award in late 2024, marking a meaningful moment in the band’s history.

Gwen passed away in March 2024. To celebrate her legacy, the Adams family (sons Robert and Andrew, and daughters Catherine and Janet – also Old Collegians) established the Gwen Adams Memorial Award to recognise a student who proudly represents the PLC Pipe Band and serves as an outstanding

Through their generosity, the Adams family has created a lasting tribute that will inspire future musicians to not only excel in performance but also uplift those around them. Their philanthropy ensures that Gwen’s legacy lives on in the rhythm and spirit of the PLC Pipe Band. Stronger together: our community rallies to support Neno girls

In a powerful response to urgent need, the PLC community united with extraordinary generosity, raising $13,227 through a dedicated giving initiative at the end of 2024. These vital funds have already made a significant impact on the lives of the entire Neno community. Most notably, they have supported the 80 girls residing in the Boarding House at Neno Girls’ Secondary School in Malawi—PLC’s sister school since 2007—after their living facilities were severely damaged by storms. At PLC, our commitment to Neno is strongly embedded in our mission to empower young women through education and to support them on their journeys through creating opportunities that will transform their lives. This ongoing partnership with Neno continues to reflect and support the heart of our PLC values, Delight, Empathy, Integrity, Service, and Courage. Moses Kasitomu (pictured on the right), Education Secretary of the CCAP Blantyre Synod, shared the following:

“This gesture is about more than financial support. It shows these girls they are not alone—that they are valued and supported by people across the world. This message of love and solidarity will inspire them for years to come.” In 2025, our dedication to the wellbeing and future of the girls at Neno remains unwavering. We are excited to share that we will be hosting a Trivia Night on Saturday 28 June 2025 in support of Neno. This community event will raise funds for solar power and other meaningful projects designed to enhance daily life and educational opportunities in the Neno community. Every gift, no matter the size, helps create lasting change. Thank you to those who have supported this continuous journey.

Friends of Junior School: building community… and playgrounds!

The volunteers who make up the Friends of Junior School have a strong track record when it comes to building community within the Junior School, running bake sales and organising key events including the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day breakfasts. Fundraising is also an important role for the group. Every year the FJS works with the Junior School leadership team to identify a project to support. In 2024, the group contributed $40,000 to support the creation of a dry riverbed playground for the girls. The playground has become a much-loved play area for our Junior girls. 13

Celebrating Our Volunteers: The Heart of Our School Community At the very heart of our school’s spirit and success are our incredible volunteers—parents, Old Collegians, friends, and staff who give their time, talents, and hearts to create a richer, more connected experience for all our daughters. Their dedication is seen and felt every day. Whether helping at events, planning new initiatives, or leading groups, their efforts bring our community to life and ensure every student’s journey is filled with opportunities, friendships, and joy. Our volunteers aren’t just helpers—they are community builders. They forge bonds around shared values and a deep commitment to supporting our students and our College. Through their passion, lasting friendships are formed, and a true sense of belonging thrives. Our volunteers also set a powerful example for our students. By stepping up and giving back, they show that leadership, teamwork, and service matter. They teach, by example, that one person’s contributions can ripple outward, making a difference in ways big and small.
