Where Spring Blooms
A GETAWAY FOR ALL

Spring doesn’t rush into Temple, Texas. It arrives the way the city prefers unhurried, intentional, and grounded in a rhythm that feels both welcoming and familiar.
One day, the air turns lighter as visitors slow down to admire wildflowers edging the roads and lining open fields. Then next, patios are full, trails are active, and Temple has settled comfortably into its most inviting season.
Positioned between Austin and Waco, this Central Texas city wears spring especially well. Mild temperatures encourage wandering, whether that looks like a leisurely stroll through downtown or a longer ramble along shaded trails that wind through natural areas.
Days unfold naturally here, leaving room for exploration, connection, and discovery. Temple rewards planning without overplanning, making it easy to build an itinerary that feels thoughtfully curated rather than overstuffed.
Downtown is a natural starting point. Historic brick buildings house local shops, coffee counters, and gathering spots that feel more like neighborhood favorites than fleeting novelties. Murals splash color across alleyways and corners, and First Friday events turn the streets into an inviting block party, with live music drifting between open doors and conversations carrying from table to table.
It’s the kind of downtown where people still make eye contact, where bartenders remember your order, where the evening stretches on because no one’s rushing it along.
Spring is also when Temple’s event calendar comes into full bloom. Petals & Pints, the seasonal celebration blending craft brews and wildflowers, fills downtown with live music, food vendors, family-friendly activities, and arts and culture that feel both vibrant and approachable.
Later in the season, food-forward events like salsa and queso competitions invite locals and visitors to gather over shared opinions and second helpings. These moments feel communitycentered and easy to love, offering connection without pretense.

When the weather is right, Temple leans outdoors. Miller Springs Nature Center offers shaded trails that wind through prairie and woodland, opening to views of Belton Lake that feel unexpectedly expansive.

Belton Lake itself becomes a centerpiece this time of year. Kayaking, fishing, and shoreline picnics draw visitors looking for water without the crowds.
Temple’s arts and culture scene also comes alive in spring. The Cultural Activities Center rotates exhibitions that spotlight both regional and national artists, offering fresh reasons to return throughout the season, while performances and concerts pop up across the destination. Pepper Creek Trail provides a more urban escape, connecting neighborhoods with green space and quiet moments that feel removed from the roadways just beyond the trees. In spring, wildflowers line the paths and birdsong becomes part of the city everyday soundtrack.

Music has a steady presence here, from jazz jams and college showcases to local bands playing intimate sets at various venues across the destination. The sound is varied, but the feeling is consistent: accessible, experiential, and rooted in culture.
Food and drink follow the same philosophy. Craft breweries offer seasonal releases and shaded patios, while locally owned restaurants embrace spring menus and outdoor dining. It’s easy to build a day around eating here, from a leisurely brunch to a late dinner that turns into one more round because the night is still young.
Nearby wineries and tasting rooms add to the mix, making Temple a well-rounded stop for those who like their travel experiences paired with a glass in hand.

What defines Temple in spring isn’t

You can fill your days with festivals, hikes, music, and meals, or choose just one or two and let the rest unfold on its own.
Spring is also a reminder of Temple’s position as a connector city and a travel hub. Its location makes it an easy weekend destination, but its character encourages you to linger. Visitors arrive curious and leave a little surprised, having found something warmer and more personal than expected.
In Temple, spring doesn’t announce itself loudly. It invites you in and turns first visits into return plans.

Our Guide to Temple’s Kolaches
GET YOUR DOUGH FIX
Move over, donuts—there’s a new breakfast royalty in town, and it’s wrapped in a pillowy cloud of sweet (or savory) perfection! That’s right, March 1 is National Kolache Day, and we’re here to help you celebrate the best way possible by indulging in these delightful Czech treats right here in Temple, Texas.
But before you take a big, delicious bite, let’s settle a little Texas debate: What’s the difference between a kolache and a klobasnek?
KOLACHE VS. KLOBASNEK: A TEXAS-SIZED IDENTITY CRISIS
We need to talk if you’ve ever grabbed a “sausage kolache” from a Texas bakery. Technically, that’s a klobasnek (plural: klobasniky)—a savory pastry stuffed with sausage, cheese, or jalapeños. A true kolache is a sweet pastry filled with fruit, cream cheese, or poppy seeds, hailing from Czech tradition. But let’s be honest—we love them both, and we’re not about to start correcting anyone while stuffing our faces.
Now that we’ve settled that, let’s get to the good stuff—where to find the best kolaches and klobasniky in Temple!
CELEBRATE LIKE A TEXAN
However you like your kolache (or klobasnek), grab a dozen and share the love! Support our local bakeries, treat yourself to something delicious, and most importantly don’t start any pastry-related arguments at breakfast.
WHERE TO FIND KOLACHES
BUC-EE’S
If you're road-tripping through Temple, a pit stop at Buc-ee’s for their legendary sausage and cheese klobasniky is a must. Snacks are essential for a road trip.

KOLACHE KITCHEN
A local go-to for fresh-baked kolaches that melt in your mouth. Whether you're craving a traditional apricot kolache or a cheesy jalapeño sausage klobasnek (we won’t judge), this spot has you covered. They are known for their award-winning dough. This location was even featured on The Day Tripper!
SHIPLEYS DO-NUTS
Famous for donuts, but also home to some delicious kolaches. Swing by for a quick grab-and-go breakfast that pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee.
