London’s Tate Modern celebrates British artist Tracey Emin with the largest ever retrospective of her work in an exhibition showcasing forty years of creative effort by Micaela Zucconi

racey Emin (Margate, 1963) is regarded as one of contemporary art’s most influential figures – and also one of the most controversial and “shameless”. She was appointed Dame Commander of the British Empire
(DBE) by King Charles III in recognition of her exceptional contribution to contemporary art. The exhibition A Second Life (until August 31st 2026), developed in close collaboration with the artist, gives visitors an insight into the artist’s philosophy through over 100 works (some famous, some on display for the first time) including paintings, videos, textiles, neons, sculptures and installations. After studying at the Royal College of Art, in the 1990s she became one of the Young British Artists (YBA), and since then her career has been distinguished by a raw, strongly autobiographical and intimate approach through which she explores themes like sex, trauma, love and solitude. Emin has broken with convention by combining art and private life through the prism of confessional revelation. 109
