ear Readers, on 3rd June, as THE ONE Yacht & Design we held an event at the Milan site of the IED – Istituto Europeo di Design (European Design School) entitled “The Human Heart of the Creative Process the encounter between yachting and interior design”. The aim of the event was to provide a platform for dialogue between the world of design and furnishing as well as shipyards, designers and architects. Alongside an exhibition of iconic design objects from the companies taking part we organised two talks entitled “The Circularity of Space” and “The Benefit of Lights”. Involving illustrious designers, architecture studios and shipyards, we promoted fascinating discussions on how the participants visualise the present and future of furnishings and lighting in modern megayachts. More and more furnishing and design companies have been asking us to enable interaction among the various sectors, using THE ONE Yacht & Design as a bridge between shipyards, naval designers and architecture studios, encouraging dialogue on subjects linked to interior and exterior furnishings on board yachts and megayachts. The IED’s degree course offer now includes one in yacht design, and THE ONE Yacht & Design is honoured to sit on the examination board for this qualification. Now, thanks to the partnership we have forged with the IED we have decided to act on the increasing demand for dialogue and interaction. Encouraged by the success enjoyed by this first event, we have scheduled a second conference to be held by the end of this year. You will find a review in this issue of THE ONE Yacht & Design. Now we’re looking forward to the summer, and the various boat shows around the Mediterranean, where we can admire the new developments presented by the shipyards. Enjoy your reading!

[ SHARED WORLDS ]

PAY ATTENTION TO THESE TWO. CULTURE AND DESIGN INFORMED BY GOOD TASTE

by Giacomo Bertolazzi, Head of the IED (Istituto Europeo di Design), Milan

S

ome design world encounters seem to have been written in the stars. The individuals involved in the partnership I’d like to talk about, Davide Oldani and Attila Veress, come from different worlds - haute cuisine and design – but their work is based on the same principles – rigour, dedication, an ability to observe and responding to necessity. Above all, a simple idea that’s also extremely powerful – food is a basis for culture and design. Michelin-starred chef Oldani, a relentless perfectionist, is known for having revolutionised haute cuisine with his POP cuisine philosophy – accessible, elegant and balanced. He doesn’t like the spotlight, preferring to let his dishes speak for themselves. However, when he turns his talent to the world of design he does so with the clear-sighted vision of one who knows that every detail counts. Veress was born Transylvania in 1990 but grew up in the UAE. He chose to train as a designer at the IED in Milan, Italy, where – after a brilliant career – he is now a lecturer. From the very beginning the IED (Istituto Europeo di Design, Milan - European Institute of Design) has believed in the design value of food and the dialogue between aesthetics and function, emotion and discipline, forming the conceptual basis for this encounter. The year was 2012. Veress, then a student, rolled up at Cornaredo in the pouring rain after cycling from Milan on his legendary fixed-gear Garibaldi 71 bike in order to meet the great chef. This simple yet defining action made a deep impression on Oldani, and a great friendship was born, one nurtured by mutual respect and inspiration. This friendship soon

14

gave rise to a series of projects, including dishes, furnishings and objects intended for the restaurant world. Davide was a volcano of ideas, but he understood that the transformation into reality must follow strict aesthetic and functional rules – in Attila he found the perfect partner for skilfully translating ideas into products. Cooking, designing and teaching are activities that require not just method, but vision, too. Just as Bruno Munari takes the recipe for green rice as a starting point for a narration of design, Oldani and Veress construct form and function through the experience of flavour. Behind the products that have brought success for brands like Cassina, Artemide, Panboo, Kartell, Luce di Carrara, Knindustrie, S.Pellegrino and Aran Cucine there lies a shared idea – design serves if it’s beautiful, but especially it it’s right. Students at the IED have often been able to share the fruits of this special encounter, feeling that being at the IED makes them part of the terrain on which this synergy developed. In last May’s talk Gusto Formale this story came to life again in the words of its two main characters - Oldani provided hints on the value of intuition, time and care, while Veress brought to the school the practical approach of a designer who constantly dialogues with the impalpable and transforms it into objects. In the worlds of luxury and yachting, where every experience must be authentic and memorable, this story shows that the line between cooking and design are becoming increasingly blurred. What’s important is to start from the substance – and transform it into emotion.

[ THE VOICE OF THE ARCHITECT ]

MY IDEA OF A YACHT by Simone Micheli co-founder of Simone Micheli Architectural Hero

I

t was during the ‘Shared Worlds’ event organised by Platinum Experience at the IED in Milan, an afternoon brimming with the scintillating debate of differing viewpoints, that I had the pleasure of discussing my idea of envisioning a yacht as a work of art. I have always lived on the fringes of social convention and, naturally, I shared my own experience in the world of yacht design, which began with the Permare shipyard. On a 95-footer I was able to work on the waterlines and leave my signature on the interior design. It was more than just an assignment: it represented my own story. In this particular approach, every project is autobiographical. Every sign, every detail, every object within the space stems from a vision that “comes from above” and is translated into quick, instinctive sketches that my team transforms into reality. I do not design to please, but to express. And I only do so when the client grants me the freedom to construct a personal narrative, one inspired by dream, obsession, and authenticity. My recent experience as Ambassador for The ONE Yacht & Design allowed me to interact with a world quite different from my own, one of luxury, power and desire. Yet even here, I believe I was able to transform the concept of a yacht into an intimate narrative: the boat should not tell the owner’s story but the person’s. Their passions – their boots, pen, car, ever the same and ever different - are reflected in the aesthetic choices, the spaces, the materials. Today, luxury is no longer measured in metres or materials, but in time. Time is the true privilege of the contemporary age.

16

And designing means creating spaces where time can be experienced, listened to, savoured. Speaking out from among the chorus, I would also like to highlight the contradictions of an industry often driven by money rather than culture. Too many boats are born from the whims of owners lacking aesthetic culture. I take this opportunity to encourage a moment of reflection, responsibility, and the courage to build authentic beauty, even within limits and constraints. Because, as Castiglioni would say, “senza vincoli si fa la marmellata” (without constraints, all you get is a mess – or, more literally, something as sweet but as shapeless as “jam”). Yet architecture - like boating, like design - is made of obstacles destined to be transformed into opportunities. And those who design, those who actually create, cannot be satisfied with just a beautiful rendering: they must know how to make a dream come true. In an afternoon spent in the midst of many different ideas at IED, I brought my own: a profound, personal, passionate idea. I listened, moved, recognising in the passion of the other speakers that same strength that has always guided me. And the incredible thing is that I did not run for the hills as soon as I exited the conference. I stayed, because in that room I felt something that resembled something of my own: a stubborn desire to never stop dreaming. I thank the CEO Platinum Media Lab, Matteo Galbiati, for his passion and willingness to grow and continue on this magical path.

[ DESIGN DISTRICT ] NICOLA COROPULIS CEO POLTRONA FRAU by Veronica Lempi

For the first time Poltrona Frau introduces wardrobe and walk-in closet systems. How did you imagine them? The DressCove Night System (design Dante Bonuccelli) is Poltrona Frau’s first modular closet and walk-in wardrobe system. Extremely personalisable, it fulfils contemporary functional requirements while retaining a focus on elegance. Distinctive and versatile, it is available in an open or closed configuration with specially developed accessories in the context of bespoke spaces. The unusual system of upright elements replaces the traditional sides and creates visibly lighter but equally stable structures. The integrated, invisible electrification system provides discreet, elegant illumination for the interiors. The tactile and visual experience has a great emotional impact and brings the same sartorial approach that characterises the brand. From objets d’art to new creations – what is Poltrona Frau’s vision for the future? Limited editions or re-editions of iconic products - as Vanity Fair XC Imagine Edition with Fornasetti - are precious opportunities to enhance the brand’s heritage. Going forward, we’ll continue to expand and redefine the contemporary way of living. In 2025 we’ve introduced the night area DUO Collection in collaboration with Ceccotti Collezioni, company acquired by Poltrona Frau and designed by Roberto Lazzeroni. It was presented for the first time in 2023 with the living area and already expanded in 2024 to the dining area. We’ll also be continuing our collaborations with lifestyle brands, like the capsule collection created with Fornasetti or our collaboration with the digital artist Six N. Five (Ezequiel Pini), who has designed the Moonbeam table lamp and floor lamp Foliage for us.

Since 1912 Poltrona Frau has been a byword for Italian excellence throughout the world. Superb furnishings and sartorial approach are the hallmarks of the iconic Pelle Frau. One of the most iconic brand’ products is the Dezza armchair by Gio Ponti, which in 2025 celebrated its 60th anniversary with a limited edition of 60 examples. The new Five Season collection pays tribute to the essence of the four annual cycles, linking them with colours and shapes, with the addition of a fifth season that finds expression in the intimate balance. Recently, Poltrona Frau has worked closely with its tanneries to offer customers a new low-impact leather: Pelle Frau® Impact Less. Launched in 2022 is now used for 90% of the leather collection as of 2024, with the aim of reaching 100% by 2030.

18

Pelle Frau Impact Less reflects your commitment to environmental responsibility. Since the brand was founded, we’ve followed a path towards sustainability, with the unswerving aim of reducing our environmental footprint. One of our hallmarks is durability – nothing is more sustainable than a product designed to last for generations. Then there’s our commitment to using more responsible materials - Pelle Frau® Impact Less is the innovative leather and tanning that brings something new to design, showing that luxury and sustainability can co-exist. This unique tanning process does not involve the use of chrome (Cr3) and, compared with classic tanning methods it cuts the use of chemical agents to 15% and adopts technologies that minimise environmental impact. The tanning process enables a 10% reduction in water use through innovative wastewater recovery technology. Quality standards remain extremely high, maintaining aesthetic and tactile qualities like colour, finish, durability and performance. What’s your relationship with the ship-building industry and yachting? As far back as the 1930s Poltrona Frau was creating interiors for the most famous luxury transatlantic liners, like the Rex. Nowadays we design and create bespoke furnishings for the world’s most prestigious superyachts, building on our expertise in managing complex extra-residential projects intended for a demanding international and multicultural clientele. Our timeless furnishings harmoniously integrate with the on-board architectures, reflecting the owner’s personality. We collaborate with the world’s most important yards and architectural studios, developing specific solutions.

[ FIVE QUESTIONS TO... ]

SEBASTIANO FANIZZA CEO NEXT YACHT GROUP by Paola Bertelli

You’ve recently been appointed CEO of Next Yacht Group - what’s your strategic vision for the next few years and what are your priorities? Our objective is to transform the group into a global reference point, for build quality and for our ability to anticipate the requirements of future owners. Being CEO of Next Yacht Group in this historic period is especially exciting but it enables me to operate with a medium to long term vision, focussing on identity of our brands, AB Yachts and Maiora, in terms of the product and client experience. At the operational level, in the short term we’ve concentrated on the two main Viareggio sites – the headquarters, where we fit out our yachts, and that has enabled us to to triple our production capacity, and the ‘AB Yachts & Maiora Deck Lounge’, an iconic site and the ideal place to welcome guests and host up to up to seven craft from the two lines in the water. On the product front, we’re working on AB Yachts and Maiora with two distinct development teams. Finally, we’re intensifying research and development activities to consolidate our reputation as an innovative, forward-looking company. Next Yacht Group has presented four new models in the space of just a few months. What’s the strategy driving this novel approach? The launch of the new models is the result of a clear strategy – to define with great precision the positioning of the two brands, Maiora and AB Yachts. We intend to build on the work launched by the brand through a collaboration with the in-house team, which comprises high-profile professionals and a pool of extremely talented international designers. These models are only the first stages in a course of action designed to offer solutions in line with the requirements for power, agility and extereme comfort of AB Yachts and the intelligent management of spaces deriving from the experience of Maiora. All with respect for our artisanal tradition and high level of personalisation, something that’s now rare in our industry. Innovation and sustainability are key themes in today’s superyacht market. How does your production reflect this? Innovation and sustainablility are at the heart of our vision. As a company we’re building up our internal processes, intensifying research and 20

development and launching strategic collaborations to improve energy efficiency. We’re operating on the basis of raw materials to reduce our environmental footprint, promote welfare and enhance the positive impact on people and the environment with the aim of achieving the levels that are appropriate for a luxury brand with environmental, social and governance certification. As for the product, the course we’ve undertaken focusses on innovating construction methods. This will enable us to achieve cuts of up 30% in production waste, introduce effective elements of a circular economy and offsetting what we have not yet succeeded in managing. We aim to use structural and design materials from certified sources. In a constantly evolving market, what do you think are the main challenges and opportunities for Next Yacht Group? The global situation demands constant adaptation – stringent environmental standards, constantly developing geopolitical scenarios requiring nimble changes in strategy, international competiton driving innovation and improved processes and constant attention to efficient production. There’s no lack of opportunities, though – global demand for personalised yachts keeps growing, and Italian flair and expertise is highly regarded. Our aim is to create a space where the client’s experience starts with the first encounter, continues during construction, takes tangible form with the yacht and continues with the future generations, ours and theirs. How are owners of the future and how are their requirements changing? Future owners aren’t seeking a status symbol, they want an all-round bespoke experience that fits their and their family’s needs. Their lifestyle, with an increasing use of technology, their previous experiences, the way their work develops, the destinations they want to enjoy and the way they use their yacht. Above all they want to have confidence in the people who design, sell, build and provide assistance for their yacht. Luxury isn’t just the yacht as an object, it’s also a unique experience in marine settings that only a yacht enables you to explore.

IN CRITICAL MOMENTS, SHIPYARDS AND THE BIGGEST PLAYERS IN THE MARKET CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

by Andrea Pezzini, CEO & Co-Founder of Floating Life

W

e are living through one of the most critical moments in the global pleasure sailing industry. The conjunction of an immediate crisis in the new-build market, especially in the small and medium yacht sectors, an environmental crisis resulting in meteorological instability and unpredictability and the immense difficulty in finding skilled mariners who want to make the sea their career is generating an unprecedented general sluggishness in the sector. New builds: the market is experiencing a post-Covid blip - we could think of this as natural, because in 2019 the market had already begun a downward trend caused by market saturation - Covid simply generated an anomalous boom (which I’ve already talked about in another article) that has now run its course. As always, we can look forward to five years of decline and five years of growth – nothing new so far. Environmental crisis: I’ll not get into the whys and wherefores, I’ll just note that with the rising temperature of the sea and land, the parameters forming the basis of the forecasts have totally changed and the extreme phenomena that at first didn’t affect the Mediterranean, except in infrequent cases, have now assumed an unprecedented

frequency and violence that’s hard to predict. Mariners: we’d need pages and pages to do full justice to the situation but I’ll provide a quick summary. Work at sea is hard and demands much passion and dedication. Orders are given and must be carried out, and the hours in high season are punishing. All this is the opposite of what today’s kids are looking for and what we’d like for them. As a result, finding new crew has become a nightmare for owners and management companies. At this point you will, of course, be asking what can be done. I think that shipyards and the biggest players in the market should overcome the diffidence, arrogance and tightfistedness they are known for (except for a few honourable exceptions) and fund high-level schools and academies to train future crew members. When this problem has been solved the other two will sort themselves out because clients will regain confidence in the market and new captains will learn how to handle the new climate changes, following the example of those seamen who found themselves plying waters whose meteorology was, until the early 19th century, “half unknown”.

But I’m also sure that this time, too, my words will be lost in the wind!

W

ater Revolution Foundation is announcing the Roadmap 2050 towards Regenerative Yachting. This roadmap represents a collective, yachting sector-wide effort to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 latest. Developed through collaboration, following the Life Cycle Approach and based on a unique data exercise, the Roadmap covers every stage of a yacht’s life cycle -design, build, operation and refit - with clear, measurable targets set in five-year increments. The Roadmap provides a path towards net zero for both product and process. With overwhelming support for the Roadmap 2050 from the great mix of business leaders present at the 3rd edition of the foundation’s strategic platform for top 60 industry CEOs, held last May in Lerici, Italy and hosted by Sanlorenzo,

The way it is set up engages all yachting sector stakeholders and follows the approach of a yacht’s life cycle of Design, Build, Operation and Refit the foundation calls upon all industry stakeholders to embark on this collective journey together. “The Roadmap 2050 is a compass to navigate together through what are, undeniably, unchartered waters”, Robert van Tol, executive director of the foundation explains. “Yachting can and should be pro-active and openly commit to net zero, by latest 2050. Coordination and collaboration are the keys to accomplishing this.” After two previous events, in Hamburg (2023) and Amsterdam (2024), this year’s edition marked a significant shift

from awareness to implementation. The focus turned to embedding regenerative principles into operations, investment decisions and lifecycle strategies across the entire yachting value chain. Renowned environmental advocate Céline Cousteau emphasised that “Regenerative practices in the yachting industry are essential for the health of our oceans and the well-being of future generations. This industry possesses the power, influence, and resources to lead by example. If yachting can transform, no other sector will have an excuse not to follow.” 25

L

ily is a 101-metre (331ft) yacht designed by Vripack for Oceanco. Its asymmetrical, split-level design optimises sight

lines, air flow and owner experience. “The key requirement from Oceanco was to conceive a yacht for the change makers who wants to leave a mark,” says Vripack’s co-creative director, Marnix Hoekstra. The premise of the design is inspired by a water lily - a flower that emerges from the water and symbolises resurrection and purity. Viewing the yacht from aft reveals an exterior that wraps around like the curving leaves of a protective cocoon. An asymmetrical bow features a unique walkway starboard side and a helicopter landing pad portside. The elegant steel hull and aluminium superstructure mimics the shape of a sailing yacht with uninterrupted lines. The omission of side walkways and terraces gives the outward appearance of a smooth impenetrable surface, yet one-way glass windows that flank the profile maintain guests’ uninterrupted relationship with the ocean from within. The top deck is dedicated to the 450msq (4840ftsq) owner’s split-level quarters. It’s complemented by a vast 315msq (3390sq) private sundeck terrace.

amber Yacht Design, conceived for Moorwins, a young Italian clothing brand, is a concept of a multihull yacht. “The shapes and

volumes recall the octagonal logo and the customization of the details takes inspiration from the brand’s most glamorous collections,” explains the yacht designer Carmelo Marco Bernardi, founder of Camber Yacht Design. It is 88 metres long, has a 36-metre beam and its three masts tower over seventy meters in height. Inside, the Owner’s Penthouse spans the full beam of the bow area, offering an extraordinary forward view toward the horizon where this megayacht is headed. On the upper deck, an outdoor amphitheatre is set at the centre of the vessel. This area is designed as a strategic space for onboard fashion shows and performances by artists. At the stern, on one side, there is an external garage with an overhanging heliport, while on the other side there is an octagonal shaped store, typical of the logo, where guests and clients can explore the latest collections. Guests can cool down in one of the three swimming pools. The largest, filled with saltwater, ends with a continuous waterfall flowing directly into the sea. At the top of the main mast an innovative sky-deck dominates the scene. The yachting lifestyle has always been an integral part of the brand, alongside other glamorous passions, in the pursuit of life’s pleasures. “With this project, we want to offer the brand’s admirers a vision, our idea of hedonism, the emotion of a dream,” explain the Maison’s representatives. The project will lead to a series of events and dedicated collections in the fashion world. camberyachtdesigncom

TWO WORLDS, LIMITLESS CONNECTIONS

The worlds of luxury yachts, architecture and interior design are engaged in a flourishing interchange of ideas. “Shared Worlds”, a conference held by THE ONE Yacht & Design at the Spazio Teatro IED Milano, highlighted all the synergies this dialogue can generate by Marta Bernasconi - ph. yachting and interior design” was the title of the conference, which aimed to encourage design furnishings companies to interface with the most illustrious Italian and international shipbuilders, yacht designers and architects. The event, which also included a display of iconic objects by the companies taking part, included two round tables on key themes in designing on-board spaces, their interaction and the importance of light and lighting design. Both round tables featured a shipyard representative, a yacht designer, a residential architect and representatives from the furnishings sector. The focus of the first talk was “The circularity of space”, discussing the application of the rules of residential and hotel furnishing to the most prestigious yachts. Appearing on the IED platform were architect Francesca Muzio, founder of FM Architettura, the architect Alessandra Massarani, partner in ACPV Architects - Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, Guido Orsi, sales and marketing manager of of Tankoa

he SD132 belongs to the tradition of navetta-style yachts, telling a compelling story in which time and a sense of romance play a central role. Its exterior lines are designed to evoke a timeless elegance, aimed at a refined and experienced owner who seeks a yacht with a gentle, never aggressive, presence. The forms draw inspiration from a stylistic past – not to replicate it, but to reinterpret it through a contemporary lens, in dialogue with current design trends. It’s a balance between memory and innovation: a modern rewriting of a classic language that celebrates harmony and understated style. The exteriors are designed to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior. to conviviality at all times, perfectly integrated into the natural surroundings. The flybridge is also designed to encourage a fully open experience, offering unobstructed views and a spacious, fluid, and natural use of the outdoor areas. One of the most important innovations of the SD132 is undoubtedly the asymmetric layout – an architectural choice that breaks away from traditional norms to offer new perspectives and enhanced functionality on board. This innovative approach is most clearly expressed in the beach club configuration. By fully opening the hull side, the boundary between interior and exterior vanishes. From the cockpit, the view extends seamlessly to the sea, eliminating visual and physical barriers and bringing the ocean directly into the onboard experience. This creates a direct, immersive connection with the surrounding environment, maximising the liveability of the exterior spaces and redefining the very concept of life at sea.

ith this project, we weren’t aiming for an impressive effect – the goal was to create authentic and ‘humble’ spaces in the noblest sense of the word: honest, coherent, and essential environments that make the onboard experience less decorative and more genuine. The design philosophy was to create a material and sensory narrative, where every stylistic choice responds to a sensory need, and every space conveys a quiet elegance, rooted in materiality and the authenticity of the project. I always suggest that people come aboard and close their eyes – it’s through touch that the soul of the project is truly perceived. Raw wood, linen and natural textures create an aesthetic that speaks softly yet powerfully. Moreover, the absence of glossy surfaces serves a functional purpose: on a yacht intended for charter use, ease of maintenance is an essential aspect of comfort. The result is a harmonious experience, elegant in its sobriety, deeply rooted in

70

materiality, where each space possesses its own expressive identity – free from decorative excess yet rich in substance. We worked on an “earthy” palette inspired by natural tones – composed of natural woods, earthy hues, and tactile finishes – and materials chosen for their sensory value and their ability to evoke emotions and build a narrative that is experienced through the senses. The colour palette combines visual restraint with perceptual depth, creating harmonious, coherent environments free from excess. Each material plays a specific narrative role: from the antique oak of the low cabinets, to the bleached walnut on the walls, and the brushed European oak flooring. All are in dialogue with one another to deliver a stylistically consistent and tactilely engaging experience. In this way, the palette is not merely a stylistic choice, but a tool to convey an authentic experience, deeply rooted in materiality.

The SD132 marks a key moment in the evolution of Sanlorenzo’s semi-displacement range. Here, the concept of asymmetry reaches its highest expression, with an asymmetric main deck to starboard and an asymmetric upper deck to port. This solution has allowed Sanlorenzo to maximize space usability without compromising the overall elegance. It was also an engineering challenge, as achieving balance and stability without disrupting the visual harmony required meticulous planning

he new flagship of Sanlorenzo’s Yacht Business Unit, the SD132 represents a significant evolution within Sanlorenzo’s semi-displacement line, refining the key concepts that have defined the SD range and elevating them to a higher level of maturity. This model embodies the philosophy that has guided the shipyard’s success – crafting yachts for experienced owners who prioritise the pleasure of navigation without sacrificing performance. The SD132 has generated significant interest even before its official launch. I believe its success stems from a combination of strategic and stylistic factors that perfectly align with the expectations of today’s yacht owners. As a matured evolution of the SD range, the SD132 is built on solid foundations while introducing distinctive innovations. One key factor is its asymmetry, which has been taken to the next level. The enhanced liveability of spaces strengthens the connection with the sea in a way previously unseen within this range. Beyond aesthetics, one of the biggest innovations on the SD132 is the way we’ve approached space. Thanks to the asymmetric layout, we’ve been able to maximise interior ergonomics, creating an impressive sub-420gt yacht within just 40 metres – a configuration that is rarely achieved with such elegance and architectural balance. This doesn’t just enhance comfort and liveability – it also gives the SD132 a clear advantage over competitors of the same length, offering owners more generous, functional and immersive spaces that blend effortlessly with the sea. Lastly, an often overlooked but crucial aspect is the strong family feeling across Sanlorenzo models. Owners appreciate the brand’s consistency and the fact that, despite its innovations, the SD132 retains a stylistic continuity that makes it instantly recognisable. This not only reinforces the prestige of the model but ensures it remains timeless for years to come.

The SD132’s layout is designed to maximize liveability while avoiding unnecessary volume waste. The connection between indoor and outdoor spaces has been strategically planned to reduce reliance on artificial lighting and climate control systems

ioia is the sixth in the Vintage 43 metre series, a line launched in 2011 with the intention of offering custom superyachts displacing less than 500 GT with a classic, timeless charm and where the spatial architecture creates generous interiors and roomy outdoor lounges. Its construction began “on spec” in 2021, and about a year later the yacht was bought by owners who were captivated by its clean, balanced lines. The reputation for excellence that Codecasa has built up over its two-century history also played an important role in their decision. The yard, in fact, celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2025. The owners are a dynamic couple, connoisseurs of architecture and design. They are lovers of the sea – they have owned other yachts – and they actively followed the entirely construction process, making an intensely personal mark on the project. The interiors were developed by Codecasa’s style office in collaboration with Zepeda Design, enabling close integration of the yard’s vision and the owner’s aesthetics. Like the other yachts in the Vintage 43 series the exterior profile features a distinctive vertical bow. The hull and superstructure livery is personalised with soft colours, a discreet white and pastel grey respectively. White and grey also create a theme for the furnishings and upholstery on the open-air terraces. The yacht is laid out over three decks plus a sun deck in a traditional configuration, with the sleeping area - four guest cabins - on the lower deck. The owner’s suite is on the forward main deck. The day areas are distributed across the upper decks. Notable among these are the forward lounge, enlarged at the owners’ request, and the sun deck, the social heart of the yacht with sun and shade areas, freestanding furniture, structural bar unit with BBQ and a pool. Large windows surround the two lounges and on the main and upper decks, blurring the distinction between inside and out. The interior spaces retain a close harmony with the exteriors with similar colours, modern furnishings, a relaxed atmosphere and discreet luxury. The eventual decision to make Gioia available for charter influenced the choice of materials, which combine elegance, durability and ease of maintenance. Functionality was another crucial consideration for the owners, who requested some modifications – in the aft guest cabins and owner’s dressing room, for example – with the aim of increasing storage capacity and optimising spaces. The dominant material for the interior panelling is bleached oak. The flooring is brushed American walnut by Cadorin with “tatami texture” American walnut for the owner’s suite and stairs. Some panels are embellished with eco-leather in neutral tones. Clear and bronzed mirrors and windows amplify visual depth throughout the interiors. The guest bathrooms are clad in Taj Mahal marble, while white quartzite is the choice for the day heads. Calacatta marble adds sculptural elegance to the owners’ bathrooms. Gioa’s architecture is closely integrated with every yacht’s main purpose – sailing. The yacht’s displacement hull favours efficiency and comfort, offering a relaxed marine experience. Style becomes functional and aesthetics inform the sailing experience. www.codecasayachts.com

ioia reinterprets the Vintage line, enabling it to evolve, transcend its classic layout and respond to the requirements of a modern, sophisticated client base. This makes us very proud. Its exterior design is a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic lines of the Vintage series. The use of extensive windows and a sophisticated colour palette with pastel shades for the hull and superstructure give the yacht a timeless elegance. Intense attention to detail has shaped distinctive solutions like the layout of the conversation areas on the bridge deck and sun deck. One of the owner’s specifications for the exteriors involved the forward area. He wanted to expand this, creating a comfortable, sociable area. The yard presented a number of proposals, and from these he chose a configuration with two structural sofas, one facing the other, creating a refined, welcoming interior. The sun bridge, with its BBQ area and comfy shaded sofa, is without doubt the beating heart of the yacht. It’s also my favourite area. I think the owners especially liked the sofas of the aft section of the bridge deck with their rounded, embracing shape. Free-standing elements by Minotti provide a touch of exclusivity and refinement for the outdoor spaces. The link between interiors and exteriors is enhanced by a careful selection of neutral tones for the fabrics and coherent furnishing style linking the spaces, creating a perfect visual and sensory continuity.

106

This aerial view highlights the extent of the exterior areas - the forward upper deck lounge was extended on the owners’ request. On the sun deck (opposite page) the shaded central section with sofa, bar counter and BBQ, separates the forward and aft sun areas with hydromassage pool and sunpads

ioia’s owner is a dynamic individual, accustomed to travelling around the world, with an exceptional awareness of architectural detail. The interiors feature a clean, contemporary aesthetic, a perfect reflection of the owner’s tastes. The client followed every detail of the build closely – the result is tailor-made yacht that embodies his aesthetic and functional vision. The interior design was developed by the collaboration between Zepeda Design and Codecasa’s own interior designers. Gioia has a unique identity and is a distinctive presence in the luxury yacht market. One notable feature is the main deck saloon, which hosts guests in a sophisticated setting with furniture by the most prestigious international brands. The Minotti sofas, armchairs and chairs, together with the dining table with bronzed finish by Gallotti & Radice, display a timeless elegance, enhancing the style of the entire yacht. One detail is the metal mesh cladding by Sophie Mallebranche in the technical spaces of the saloon, a design touch that embellishes the space with a sophisticated elegance. The sliding doors in the two owners’ dressing rooms, made of glass with a metal mesh, have a very striking visual impact. The client showed considerable sensitivity, not only in the aesthetics but also in the context of functionality, making it easier to find a balance between design and practicality. The materials selection has led to high quality solutions that provide durability without compromising on elegance. Special attention has been given to the use of “tatami texture” American walnut by Cadorin for the guest stairs and the floor in the owner’s cabin. Several samples of these were made to obtain the best balance between aesthetics and durability.

he construction of the M/Y Gioia began “on spec” in 2021. The owners arrived a year after the start of the build, in July 2022. They were new clients for the yard and came to us on the advice of their captain, Alberto Batani, who knows our yachts well. The owners took an active role in the yacht build and were always present during the work, from construction to installing the furnishings, which were specially chosen for materials, colours, fabrics and so on. Unlike the other yachts in our Vintage series, the yacht’s interiors are totally customised. The choice of extremely modern furnishings and personalised interiors clearly reflect the owners’ influence. Gioia is the sixth craft in the Vintage line. The most important of its successful features is without doubt the guarantee of safe, comfortable sailing. The yacht has a GT just below 500 GT. The outdoor spaces on the Vintage line series have sober, elegant lines that provide great liveability and privacy throughout. Consumption levels are reasonable and quality standards are stellar. It’s a safe yacht, visually appealing and well-suited to long cruises. In contrast to the previous yachts in this series, the engines are CAT C32 Acert units, a choice made to ensure conformation with environmental standards, making sailing more sustainable. The M/Y Gioia is the first yacht of this size where we’ve installed SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) filters in the engines, reducing NOx emissions from the diesels.

Gioia is a displacement yacht below 500 GT with steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Its cruising speed is around 11 knots, with a top speed of 16 knots. Range 4,000 miles

hen I was invited to visit the 122-meter Kismet at the last Monaco Yacht Show, I honestly didn’t expect that what I was about to see was beyond the limits of my imagination, although I’m well aware of the high standard of production achieved by the German shipyard Lürssen, which, by the way, this year celebrates its 150th Anniversary. Kismet is not simply a giga-yacht, it’s a palace, somewhere that the owner intended as a means of being taken on a journey. This time capsule takes guests from the glorious parties of Versailles in the time of the Roi Soleil, Louis XIV, in the Hall of Mirrors, to the matinee theatres of the roaring Twenties in Hollywood’s Art Deco era! It is the result of a combination of Lürssen’s technical expertise and the design mastery of Nuvolari Lenard for the exterior and Reymond Langton Design for the interiors. Kismet is truly a work of art, a spectacular design showcase where many concepts, ideas and a sense of history join together and work beautifully in harmony. Behind this project stands an owner with technical knowledge and deep passion whose contribution has made the collaboration very enriching for all the team. Every detail of this yacht has been designed as a unique piece. Kismet is a boat featuring a wealth of shapes and materials like marbles, crystal glass, leathers and bronze. Laid out over five decks, the exterior lines are sleek and sporty despite the big internal volumes with lots of comfy and luxurious exteriors areas. The heart of the interior project is the grand staircase, adorned with a six-metre Murano glass chandelier that throws light onto the three side walls and ceiling in such a way that it transforms the space into an immersive, multi-dimensional experience. Its task is to connect the various levels and lead guests from the Grand Venetian staircase to the spaceship-style engine room corridor, a ‘Tron’ style corridor like a time travel tunnel through space. In the main lobby guests can view the chandelier from a different level as it spans the atrium. The side decks mirror the interior with an exterior atrium effect, featuring three levels of empty space alongside the windows, flooding the lobby and staircase with natural light. The lobby also boasts a particularly ornate day head with bronze marble and bronzed fluted glass walls. Kismet features two double-height video walls, made possible by two atriums and glass floors stretching from to the main deck below. These video walls, positioned at opposite sides of the saloon entrance, can be individually controlled to display television stations or the outside environment. Centre stage in the saloon is a grand piano designed by Boganyi, a futuristic self-playing piece that draws on automotive design cues. Two large floor-to-ceiling ethanol-fuelled fireplaces in polished French limestone with impressively complex sculptural details flank the entrance to the saloon, creating distinct areas that have no need for closed doors. In contrast to the curves elsewhere on board, this area features comfortable sofas and armchairs arranged in a rectangular formation. The ceiling, an impressive 2.35 metres high, features a Renaissance-style De Gournay fresco complete with historical and mythical heroes. The area is bathed in natural light, thanks to additional windows cut into the bulwarks, providing an unobstructed view even when seated. Two large Crystal Caviar chandeliers contain 15,000 LED lights each. These can be individually controlled to set any mood and interact with the environment by reacting to music. The master cabin, located on the deck above, occupies more than half of the interior guest space on this deck. Adjacent to the master cabin is a recessed exterior space featuring a Jacuzzi along with ample private sunbathing and dining areas. The touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck is certified for a Eurocopter 155. This area can also be converted into an NBA-certified basketball court. A private access leads up to the owner’s office forward of the pool deck, designed to be dual-purpose, with convertible sofas that enable it to be used as an extra guest cabin. The guest accommodation starts on the main deck below, with four stunning guest cabins, each furnished and decorated in its own unique theme. There are seven cabins in total, including the master suite, as well as a third flexible cabin on the lower deck and the owner’s study, so the yacht can host to sleep 18 guests in total. Besides the private beauty room on the upper deck designed to provide space for hair, nail, and skincare routines, the lower deck boasts a full-service wellness centre with a complete Technogym, dive store, yoga lounge and juice bar, a relaxation room with lounging chairs and a waterfall shower, bathtub for mud baths, massage and reflexology area, firepit, dry ice room, plunge pool with waterfall, sauna, hammam, shaving station, an ice and snow room and a cryogenic chamber. All this, together with the Nemo room for observing the underwater wonders and the “Tron” corridor—a futuristic passageway through the engine room via a glass walkway, complete this incredible journey. www.lurssen.com

Kismet has a length of 122 metres. W

e received the brief directly from the owner, who chose us as designers for his new yacht. Generally speaking, the request was for a yacht that would turn heads. It wasn’t easy to start from a blank sheet of paper but I believe we achieved the objective. We didn’t draw inspiration from existing lines, Kismet has its own unique personality. The development of Kismet’s style was particularly challenging. We were asked to create a yacht that would somehow recall the owner’s previous boat while delivering a completely new design with its own unique style and personality. This inevitably placed limits on our creative freedom. That said, we succeeded perfectly in striking that balance, crafting a yacht that feels familiar and introduces a distinctive new design language. Kismet has a sporty, fluid character that conceals an exceptionally voluminous interior. One standout feature is the generous use of natural light, made possible by some of the largest hull windows ever built. The mast, with its unmistakable lines, is a key design element that we carefully refined, making the yacht instantly recognizable, even from a distance. Another iconic detail is the polished steel figurehead at the bow, a stylized jaguar we designed entirely in 3D. Kismet offers a lot of enjoyable spaces and each one inspires different emotions. There’s no doubt that taking in the surrounding seascape from the crow’s nest is something very special. Kismet was a particularly rewarding project. Both the owner and the yard are highly satisfied with the final delivered boat. Seeing the yacht come to life and even exceed expectations was a proud moment for everyone involved. The result even impresses us at NL, and we knew it down to every detail. The owner was genuinely impressed and happy - he thanked us warmly for creating the yacht he wanted, just the way he wanted it.

K

ismet is the third yacht we have designed for this remarkable owner, a relationship that spans over 20 years. With each iteration Mr. K has challenged us to surpass our previous accomplishments, pushing the boundaries of innovation and creativity. Mr. K sought a yacht that was not just an extension of his previous vessels but something entirely new - avant-garde, yet timeless. Despite the constraints of the COVID-19 lockdown, which made in-person meetings impossible, we embraced this challenge. The design phase, from January to December 2020, took place entirely remotely. However, through perseverance and dedication, we were able to realise his and his family’s vision, creating a masterpiece that harmoniously blends history, innovation, and artistry. Every area is meticulously designed to evoke a sense of discovery and wonder - the transition between these contrasting environments is seamless, achieved with thoughtful design elements that connect spaces without jarring shifts in style or ambiance. The main grand staircase, adorned with a sixmetre Murano glass chandelier, reflects light onto the three side walls and ceiling in such a way that it transforms the space into an immersive, multi-dimensional experience. The architecture is very pure, with a contemporary black Corian stringer and a light stone step over. This black and white effect is needed to carry the very complex three-dimensional wall around it. Despite its grand scale, Kismet retains an intimate and cosy atmosphere, particularly in the Owner’s and guest suites, where haute couture elegance is evident in every detail. The challenge of integrating diverse design themes was resolved by blending modern touches that prevent pastiche and maintain cohesiveness throughout. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Andy, Jason and I found inspiration in the serene, empty streets of Venice and the timeless beauty of Versailles. Kismet represents our greatest achievement yet, requiring us to redefine our approach and elevate our design vision to new heights.

Kismet can cruise at speeds of up to 18 knots thanks to her Diesel engines, with a range of 6,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots. The yacht features a Diesel-Electric Hybrid Propulsion Concept developed by Lürssen’s own engineering. Additionally, she can cruise for up to 15 minutes on electrical power alone

W

e delivered Kismet, formerly known as project JAG, to her Owner in May 2024. She is the third yacht we have built for a very experienced and long-standing Lürssen client. Each time it was a great challenge to follow in the footsteps of an iconic yacht like the previous one, but with the technical expertise of our engineers and the distinguished design mastery from Nuvolari Lenard on the exterior and Reymond Langton Design on the interior, the yacht has exceeded all expectations. She represents the pinnacle of engineering with many pioneering features, including an innovative propulsion system that allows for short-time cruising on electrical power alone. She also features a single 4.9 x 1.3 metre pane of glass – by far the largest single piece of structural glazing ever fitted on a yacht’s transom. Given that this area is an integral part of the hull, regulations typically restrict such windows to a maximum of 60 x 40 centimetres. To overcome this limitation, Lürssen invested a year and a half in rigorous stress and pressure testing with the classification organisation and the manufacturer. An excellent team is necessary to execute such a comprehensive project. We are very proud of Kismet as yet another statement of Lürssen’s ability and desire to build yachts that meet all of our exacting Owners’ requirements, guided by our core focus of expert engineering, beautiful design and being at the forefront in developing sustainable technologies.

From the very start, the aim has been to create beautiful objects, and this aspiration still guides us today. We are lucky, because we live in a region where there are master craftsmen who can share and keep our vision alive.” Each piece is made using Italian-sourced raw materials and by local craftsmen, and it is precisely this artisanal soul that makes this company competitive in the sphere of bespoke production. Over the years, Cantori has structured itself specifically to respond to this type of demand, which, as Federica Cantori points out, is quite challenging. “Our

Custom designs occupy a large part of the company’s production. “We work with industry-leading yards so a high level of quality is demanded of us with a healthy dose of problem-solving skills and flexibility”. This may be a challenging production method but, for Federica Cantori, it is also a source of great satisfaction: “I am proud of our capacity to produce beautiful items for beautiful places.”

CANTORI DESIGN CHALLENGE: FROM LAND TO SEA Last May 2025, Cantori’s Milan showroom hosted the launch of the “Cantori Design Challenge: dalla terra al mare” (“from land to sea”), an innovative project linking home design to the maritime world, stimulating in-depth reflections on the crossovers that can exist between interior design and mobile architecture. In collaboration with Cantiere delle Marche, a well-known builder of luxury Explorer Yachts, Cantori has selected ten Italian architecture and interior design studios, all taking their first steps into the yachting sector, to reinterpret the interiors of three symbolic areas of a Cantiere delle Marche yacht: the Owner’s Cabin, the Main Saloon and the Terrace. The studios involved are: Barreca & La Varra, Fabric, Flaviano Capriotti Architetti, Lombardini22, Nick Maltese, Monica Gasperini + Ambra Piccin, Progetto CMR, Spagnulo & Partners, Studio Marco Piva, and WIP Architetti. The teams have until mid-July 2025 to deliver an interior concept inspired by one of four iconic couples proposed as hypothetical owners. A technical jury will choose three winning projects, the creators of which will be awarded at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, taking place from 24th to 27th September 2025.

This 58-metre yacht by Tankoa embodies a new concept of tailor-made luxury, with innovative engineering, sculptural interiors and a close connection to the sea. Exterior design is the work of Francesco Paszkowski, who also developed the interiors in collaboration with Margherita Casprini by Paola Bertelli ph. photography by Josh Breed Media

149

iamond Binta, the latest expression of the Tankoa Yachts vision, is an entirely custom 58-metre yacht inspired by a dialogue with an exceptional client, an engineer with an intense passion for the sea, technology, cars and helicopters. He is already owner of the 50-metre Binta D’Or, launched by Tankoa in 2019. With Diamond Binta the relationship between yard and owner has evolved into an even more ambitious project - a yacht that as well as reflecting the owner’s personal taste and sailing preferences surprises with its technological innovations, elegance, attention to detail and qualitative perfection. The design team comprises the same individuals who were responsible for the Binta D’Or - Francesco Paszkowski Design developed the exterior design and collaborated with Margherita Casprini for the interiors, while the naval architecture is by the Francesco Rogantin studio. Together with Tankoa, this seasoned team has created a coherent narration of form and materials, designed for long cruises and a deep connection with the sea. The iconic element of this yacht, launched in 2024, is the glazed corridor that crosses the engine room, showcasing the machinery as if in a display window. This powerful, spectacular architectural solution optimises on-board flows, creating a direct link between the lower deck cabins with the beach club and the treatment room aft, so that guests can avoid the traditional route across the main deck. Diamond Binta is laid out over three decks plus a sun deck. The sinuous, athletic exterior recalls the Binta D’Or but goes beyond with new proportions and more expansive vertical windows. The hull and superstructure livery is intense white and deep black, deliberately disrupted by the grey triangle in the centre of the sundeck, defining the interior area of the scenic gym. The open-air lounges, all surrounded by large windows that open up the view of the sea, occupy the aft sections of the decks, while the vast upper foredeck, an expanse of teak with the yacht’s logo of two back-to-back Bs, serves as a touch-and-go heliport capable of handling commercial helicopters. Furnishing elements with soft, rounded shapes - often asymmetrical and with bevelled angles – feature inside and out, creating an extreme stylistic coherence throughout. There are many specially-made pieces as well as freestanding design objects. Softness and an absence of sharp edges can also be seen in Francesco Paszkowski’s interiors. The spaces gain a dynamic impact through curved panelling and ceilings with integrated LED strips that create diverse, irregular shapes, focussing attention on specific elements and creating partitions that subtly define the spaces. The colour palate comprises grey, black and white, creating refined contrasts. There is extensive use of wood, mainly oak, and materials like metal, glass, marble and leather with a variety of finishes. The leather, for example, smooth and cream coloured on the owner’s desk, worked and in wet sand tones for the corridors, decorated on the stairwell walls and rigid on the bedheads and bases. Diamond Binta can accommodate up to 12 guests in four cabins on the lower deck. The owner’s suite on the forward main deck includes a lounge area, study and drop-down terrace. The main deck is also the location of the main saloon and kitchen. The kitchen is for the use of crew, owners and guests. This dual role is emphasised, for example, by the Poltrona Frau stools. A lounge and informal TV area, captain’s cabin (as large as a VIP cabin) and a wheelhouse with dark brown leather and red LEDs can be found on the upper deck. Diamond Binta is successful synthesis of a yacht that reflects the vision of a passionate owner and the sensitivity of a yard capable of interpreting the bespoke concept with real depth. www.tankoa.it

T

he yard’s expertise and experience with the owner enabled us to develop a new creative process where shape plays a central role and guides a new synthesis of exteriors and interiors. For us, every project begins with a precious and indispensable meeting with the owner, giving us an idea of his lifestyle and how he intends using the yacht. In this case, the experience gained with Binta D’Or became a starting point for the development of a 58-metre yacht that is almost a continuing narrative, a coherent evolution taking in the new requirements that have emerged for the owner and his family. The yard’s know-how and awareness of production dynamics enabled us to offer the owner solutions that met his requirements with the expectation of an uncompromising build. This also helped accelerate the development of the project. This 58-metre build features soft, flowing shapes that transcend the rigidity of conventional geometries that have until now dominated in the yachting world. Examples of this new approach are the vertical side elements, the overhanging structures of the decks and the furnishing integrated into the generous open-air areas. The dialogue with nature and the surrounding seascape is intensified by the large social spaces. The flydeck with pool, gym, large sunpads and bar area is designed to provide a versatile relaxation and well-being experience. The aft main and upper deck terraces have clearlydefined functions, with a spacious dining area on the upper deck and a lounge area on the main deck. The lower deck enhances the direct relationship with the sea – the drop-down sides increase usable space while the spa with massage area is designed as an immersive well-being centre. The corridor, decorated with a metal insert, also provides access to this area from the lower deck guest cabins, providing an unusual degree of functional connection.

Interior Design Francesco Paszkowski

T

he interiors, developed in collaboration with Margherita Casprini, comprise soft, rounded shapes that segue smoothly into one another. Vertical surfaces, custom furnishings created by the studio, free standing furniture items, illuminating light strips – everything on board is expressed through sinuous lines. We’ve used curved walls in the open-space areas to articulate the space into functionally distinct yet visually connected areas. The owner’s suite is an example of this – it’s a unique space where the sleeping, day, vanity and study areas are defined in a totally natural way. The interiors feature an extensive use of wood, in a variety of finishes – brushed, polished, striped – and a combination of neutral colours, from pearl grey to darker shades of grey. The result is a sober, refined atmosphere. Details in leather, metal and glass complete the aesthetics with controlled notes of materiality. One very interesting element is the ceilings with integrated LED strips around the edges, designed to accentuate and evoke the shapes of the spaces where they are located. The sculptural staircase between the main and upper decks has metal and leather surfaces. Marble surfaces – Cappuccino for the coffee tables, Calacatta for the lobby, Botticino in the dining area and Fior di Bosco in the bathrooms - add a sumptuous feel to the décor. The VIP cabin doors and the owner’s suite cupboards in grey smoked glass provide a touch of contemporary sobriety. The helm station, the technological heart of the yacht, is inspired by the world of automobile design. Dark brown leather and red accents create a more masculine feel, a perfect balance of functional elegance and decisive character.

156

The search for new soft, asymmetrical forms is reflected in all the spaces. In the owner’s suite, rounded walls define the spaces in the night area (top) the vanity and the study areas (left). Opposite page, the large conversation area on the aft main deck. The sofas are custom made

F

or Tankoa it was an honour to build a second made-to-measure yacht for this client. It was sign of confidence in us and of appreciation for our work. The owner had a clearly-defined vision of the project. Three features are the main results of his direct input – direct access to the engine room, a spacious beach club with two large drop-down balconies and the choice of a shaft alternator propulsion system. Direct access to the engine room is a feature usually seen on larger yachts, and Diamond Binta is probably the only 58-metre model to include it. Designing it took several months – the aim was to fit all the engine components into spaces that were now made smaller by the presence of the traversing corridor. Climatised and finished with select materials, this walkway makes it possible to observe the engines and systems from up close, a unique visual experience. This ambitious solution involved a number of engineering challenges, especially regarding cooling and ventilating the spaces. It was crucial to ensure everything was in line with all regulations and standards, providing comfortable cruising and a pleasing aesthetic impact. The Diamond Binta project’s second engineering challenge was the shaft alternator propulsion. The yacht is powered by a pair of 1,350 kW Caterpillar engines linked to two electric motors that enable sailing in shaft alternator mode. During long runs the main engines charge the electric motors, while the alternators produce the energy required by on-board services, leaving the generators turned off. This system optimises energy use, concentrating savings where really necessary – in other words, on-board services during long cruises. Like all our builds, Diamond Binta is the product of intense commitment and passion. One of my favourite areas on the yacht is the beach area – when the transom and two side balconies are open, this creates an extremely evocative space. The view from the beach club is incomparable. This space can also be used while sailing, thanks to a skylight that allows natural light from the main deck, making it a pleasant environment at all times.

INVISIBLE ENGINEERING When designing lifts for superyachts, aesthetics and functionality must come together, say the CEOs of ICM Lift Marine and Bertazzoni Lift Marine. Thanks to advanced engineering they create bespoke products like the lift on the Codecasa F80 Pleiades, which is concealed under a sofa

by Samuela Urbini - ph. courtesy by ICM Lift Marine and Bertazzoni Lift Marine

T

he complexity of a design doesn’t always depend on how big a yacht is – the specific requirements of those who are to experience it also play a crucial

role. Massimo Bezzi and Gianluca Bertazzoni, CEO of ICM Lift Marine and Bertazzoni Lift Marine respectively, are well aware of this. These two Italian companies have been collaborating for over twenty years in the design, construction and installation of tailor-made lifts for superyachts. The most striking recent example is the lift created for the F80 Pleiades, a 33-metre Codecasa yacht (used as a tender for a megayacht over 100 metres in length). The owner, who had special mobility requirements, needed a vertical connection between the beach club and main deck. There was, however, only a minimum of space, and the aesthetics had to remain immaculate. “The client wanted nothing to be visible on the deck”, says Bezzi, “but the lift shaft had been sunk to the limit of the keel”. The only possibility was to develop a new system from zero. The result was a lift whose cabin – self-supporting and perfectly stable – emerges beneath a sun lounger. When it’s hidden there’s nothing

to betray its presence. When it’s in operation it transports guests discreetly and in comfort. It was a complex engineering challenge, one that was solved by the synergy between the two teams - ICM for the design and construction of the product, Bertazzoni for the installation. Extreme projects with unusual specifications are just business as usual for these two companies. Take, for example, requests for special aesthetic personalisation where the engineering aspect of the system must also reflect the finish required by the client, like project 596 by the Italian Sea Group – the first yacht by Armani – where the use of special laminated glass with an integrated metal mesh for the lift shaft and doors demanded a special effort

The Yacht Club Porto Rotondo is celebrating its 40th anniversary. A benchmark in the Mediterranean yachting scene, its unique location on Sardinia’s north-east coast has long attracted sports enthusiasts and lovers of the sea with its balance of seclusion, welcome and charm. Each piece is a technical feat, a dialogue between form and substance, a perfect balance between dream and reality. That dialogue continues beyond the jewel, within the halls of London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, where A Century of Style and Influence marks the largest Cartier retrospective in the UK in over thirty years. Through more than 350 works, the exhibition, open until 16 November, retraces the journey of “the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers” from a Parisian workshop to a global symbol of luxury. In this dreamscape, art and science intertwine like a flawless necklace, reminding us that beauty is never merely decorative, it is memory, symbol, language. Like En Équilibre, it is a gesture of grace, poised perfectly on the edge between the visible and the unseen. www.cartier.com
