Anew new chapter in Caribbean yachting has begun with the opening of Biras Marina in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda, one of the most iconic bays in the British Virgin Islands. Officially launched in early 2026, the marina represents the first milestone in a broader redevelopment project designed to transform the historic Biras Creek property into a refined luxury destination that blends contemporary comfort with the natural beauty of the Caribbean.
Set on a secluded peninsula and accessible only by boat or helicopter, the revamped Biras Marina & Resort aims to position itself as a strategic hub for high-end yachting in the region. The property itself carries a long legacy: the former Biras Creek Resort had been a landmark in the North Sound for decades before sustaining major damage during Hurricanes Irma and Maria
in 2017, remaining closed for several years before its complete reimagining. The newly unveiled marina has been purpose-built to welcome superyachts, offering berths for vessels exceeding 150 feet with a draft of up to 20 feet. This infrastructure is complemented by twenty mooring buoys available for yachts up to 60 feet, ensuring flexibility for both large vessels and smaller boats exploring the British Virgin Islands.
According to owner Guillermo Houwer, the marina has been conceived as a key Caribbean reference point for the superyacht community. “Our Marina represents a strategic hub in the Caribbean, being the only marina in the region specifically designed for superyachts, combining modern infrastructure and excellent services,” he explains. The facility offers a complete range of services for captains and crews, including electricity, fresh water, high-
speed internet, boat cleaning and dedicated guest support. Beyond its nautical infrastructure, Biras Marina has been designed as an integrated lifestyle destination. Guests arriving by sea can enjoy a café and bakery close to the docks, while a complimentary hourly shuttle connects the marina to Gun Creek, an important transport hub on Virgin Gorda. A provisioning store is also scheduled to open soon, offering a curated selection of high-end European products and dockside service to simplify onboard supplies for visiting yachts.
Dining plays a central role in the experience. Ikigai, a Japanese-Caribbean omakase restaurant, introduces a refined fusion concept, while The Mangrove offers Mediterranean-inspired cuisine in a relaxed open-air setting overlooking the surrounding mangroves and turquoise waters. Together they reflect the resort’s philosophy of combining international
culinary influences with the relaxed atmosphere of the Caribbean.
The marina’s opening represents only the first phase of a wider development plan for Biras Marina & Resort. Future stages will introduce a limited collection of private villas, a working farm, additional dining venues, a rooftop lounge, private event spaces and a high-end multi-brand boutique – the first of its kind in the British Virgin Islands.
