Rosetti Superyacht’s first model wowed the audience on its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, its beautiful lines inspiring thoughts of long voyages in Mediterranean villa interiors with a modern, unconventional touch by Désirée Sormani- ph. Alberto Cocchi

mocean has finally arrived. Making her debut at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival, the RSY 38m EXP is the first model by Rosetti Superyachts and reflects the tastes and requirements of experienced owners who wanted a yacht on board which they can spend long periods in complete comfort and safety, in all sea conditions. The design was initially conceived and developed by the owners in collaboration with Sergio Cutolo and Hydro Tec. “After their experience on a 26-metre fibreglass yacht the owners really wanted a robust vessel with a steel hull that would enable them to sail in all the world’s seas, even in challenging weather conditions”, says Andrea Giora, Sales Director and Board Member of RSY. “They specified large interior volumes, a 5,000-mile range and systems that are easily accessible for maintenance. These features are typical requirements for an Explorer yacht, but the owners also wanted a design that was closer to look of a normal yacht, especially the navette type. They also asked for large windows that can be opened where possible, providing natural light and fresh air”. The owners relied heavily on the expertise of the shipyard and its parent company Rosetti Marino Group, a solid organisation that is proudly approaching its 100th anniversary and is also listed on the Milan Stock Exchange. They wanted to be closely involved in all aspects of the yacht’s design and construction, so they immediately established a relationship with the builder and suppliers, selecting the best contractor for each element to be installed. “Emocean is the fulfilment of their dream, a yacht they’ve developed and refined over years of study of existing models. Every space has been designed and optimised to host the systems and facilities that are vital for safe sailing and on-board comfort”, says Giora. The lines of the RSY 38m EXP are bold and elegant. The exterior design reflects the yacht’s functionality and reliability, key requirements for the owners. Although at first glance the lines are not exactly those of an explorer yacht, the specifications leave no doubt - extensive stowage facilities ensuring prolonged independence from ports, palatial internal and external volumes, 3,000 litres of refrigerator and freezer capacity and no less than 700 square meters of floor space in the interiors and exteriors. Guests board the yacht via the aft cockpit, which blends seamlessly into the main lounge boasting a pair of Moroso Gogan sofas forward of the ventilation trunks. This reduces the beam and creates a transitional area between the main deck lobby and the dining room. “This solution was shaped by the owner’s desire that the aft section of the saloon should be entirely open”, says Sergio Cutolo, who also handled the layout and general arrangement. “The owner intended this as a social area, mainly used for bathing and acting as a spacious swim platform. The partition that usually separates the dining area from the main lobby amidships has been eliminated”. Although this may at first seem to impose limitations, in fact it provided a significant design stimulus. The owners chose this as the location, close to the dining area, for a spectacular 150-bottle glass and steel wine cellar. Attention then shifts to the lobby, the focal architectural element of the main deck. Here a bespoke sculpture by Giacinto Bosco stands in a central position in the stairwell, just below the skylight which sheds light from the sundeck onto the lower deck. The stairs lead to a bright upper deck lounge that acts as the main saloon. The interior design, created by BurdissoCapponi Yachts&Design, is modern and contemporary, resembling a comfortable home. The interior style is based on the use of light Creta oak, dark smoked oak and materials with a 3-dimensional presence. The open-plan layout is divided into a succession of spaces, each with a distinctive emotional impact created by pieces of furniture with clean, essential lines, part of the yacht’s architecture. The furniture’s character is expressed through the details. The spacious master stateroom is on the main deck. It has a clever lay-out and a fixed side balcony accessible through a sliding glass door. The owners chose this solution because it can be used without requiring help from the crew, thus ensuring greater privacy. It includes a private office, a walk-in wardrobe and a large his & her bathroom. Here the surfaces are finished in raw and brushed silk Georgette marble. There are also two double and two twin guest cabins on the lower deck, on the same level as the beach area. Of course, the yacht also offers many cosy, relaxing open-air areas where guests can enjoy the sea and experience the emotions suggested by the yacht’s name. https://rosettisuperyachts.it

he project grew from the owners’ desire for a motoryacht providing convenience, versatility and the seafaring qualities and range of a true Explorer, a crossover combining a luxury yacht that respects the environment and is compatible with the modern lifestyle of a young couple and their family with a pocket-size ship that can cope with long voyages and spend long periods of time out of port. It would be a yacht made to measure for the owner who inspired it, guiding and directing every layout choice. Of course, we handled the engineering and the stylistic aspects. The owner accepted our initial style concept, and only intervened in shaping the external spaces. The equilibrium achieved by the external spaces is not the typical of an explorer yacht, or at least the type of explorer we’re used to, with volumes placed more centrally along the length. Two features to note are the size and extent of the glazed surfaces – guests moving around on board never loses contact with the external environment. The hull is a development of our typical displacement hull with optimal bow section and flat, relatively dry stern. This type enables the yacht to achieve exceptionally high efficiency values and excellent sea holding performance. The main deck saloon has been designed in collaboration with the owner, who wanted the main deck to be devoted mainly to formal dining and access to the bathing platform. On board life largely takes place on the upper decks, especially the upper deck saloon and spacious sun deck sheltered by the hard top. Emocean is our first collaboration with RSY and it’s also the yard’s first yacht. Working with such a large, versatile company with exceptional project management skills was a huge challenge for Hydro Tec, one that was successfully overcome alongside the yard, as the commercial success achieved at Cannes clearly shows.

mocean is a yacht designed to sail in all conditions, and as a result it was necessary to pay particular attention to the functional use of space. However, we wanted to develop a style that recalls a Mediterranean villa with large windows and sea terraces. We sought to combine the more nautical element with the informal yet elegant domestic environment. That’s why we chose to take a modern, unconventional, stylistic approach, breaking down the layout of the volumes and creating a diverse perception of space. The 3-dimensional impact of these volumes is enhanced by the materials used. Some ceiling sections are lowered to emphasise the areas below in a more expressive compositional equilibrium. The resulting spaces lend themselves to decorative furnishing, especially the display of works of art that in this way helps define the architecture. Lighting plays a significant role in the project. Here the choice was to differentiate the homogeneous, diffuse general lighting from the more focussed lighting in the areas defined by the lowered ceilings. The initial meetings immediately made it clear that the staircase would become the fulcrum of the project, the functional core. The owners had expressly specified that staircase should be visible from the living area, so we chose to use the vertical partitions as spatial but not visible separation screen from the lobby. The partitions give the interiors an elegant vertical thrust. As for the materials, in line with the owners’ taste and preference we went for materials with emphatically simple, natural colours to create a fresh style with Mediterranean accents, like the Creta Oak in the partitions and walls, with a counterpoint being provided by the vertical Smoked Oak strips emphasising some architectural elements, the stairwell and lobbies.

ince its foundation, we at Rosetti Superyachts have presented ourselves as builders of Explorer-type yachts. It didn’t matter whether the first sale resulted from a concept developed in-house or was developed from project entirely conceived by a client. Emocean adopted the latter strategy – after working several years with engineer Sergio Cutolo of Hydro Tec to develop the general arrangements and technical specifications, the owners investigated the market to find the right yard for them and eventually chose Rosetti Superyachts. Our experience in engineering and building supply vessels up to 85 metres long, the Rosetti Marino group’s financial clout and the opportunity to be involved in the choice of suppliers and the finest materials to use in building their yacht were crucial elements that persuaded the

owners to give us the commission. We also involved architects Francesca Burdisso and Emiliano Capponi for the interior design and construction. Following their long experience with one of the leading yachting groups they had recently opened their studio in Ravenna. We met a series of tough challenges during the build. We constantly sought to optimise the living and technical spaces. For the first time we found ourselves engineering, acquiring and building a yacht, but above all providing a level of interior and exterior finishes that exceeded those required in a commercial vessel. Building the first yacht in Rosetti Marino’s history is exciting

for the whole group. The investment of resources, including finance, was made with great conviction and the recognition we’ve received from the business and in the international media is a great source of pride for the entire group. Following the Cannes Festival, where two letters of intent were signed for a similar 38-metre build and a 40-metre based on the same platform, we are delighted to announce the signing of the sales contract for another RSY 38m EXP. This second boat will enhance our growth. We want to carve out a space as a yard that builds sturdy, reliable craft and develop a reputation for construction quality.
