The 400-acre low-density community is designed to appeal to wellness and nature enthusiasts, and includes residential, retail, hospitality, entertainment, and education offerings, the project’s developer, Jubail Island Investment Company (JIIC). The project has been designated as an Abu Dhabi investment zone and features six investment zone villages - Marafaa Al Jubail, Nad Al Dhabi, Seef Al Jubail, Ain Al Maha, Souk Al Jubail and Bed’a Al Jubail. The 13-kilometre waterfront project would comprise a mix of serviced plots, high-end and midrange properties that would cater to nationals and the rental market, and would house a resident population of 5,000-6,000 people after completion. Shumookh Investment and Services (SIS), the investment arm of the wholly Omani governmentowned Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), is exploring plans to establish a world-scale refinery and petrochemicals complex in Sur Industrial City in Oman’s South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The proposed refinery and petrochemical complex is expected to have a processing capacity of 300,000 barrels per day, surpassing that of the 230,000 bpd Duqm Refinery project currently in the early stages of implementation in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Duqm on Oman’s Wusta coast. Shumookh is considering a 6.5 per cent stake in the refinery and petrochemicals project, which is proposed to be established on a build-own-operate (BOT) basis. Its proposed location in Sur Industrial City, which is already home to some of Oman’s biggest industrial and petrochemical schemes, notably the 3-train Oman LNG plant and ammonia-urea complex of Oman-India Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO), is set to position Sur as an industrial powerhouse in its own right.

Construction work has started on the 1.1ha Snow Park within Abu Dhabi’s Reem Mall, a $1.2 billion (AED4.4 billion) project at Reem Island’s Najmat District that will comprise 450 shops when it opens in late-2020. UK practice Pascall + Watson, which has delivered architectural design services for Snow Park, informed site works have started for the unusual leisure destination. According to the design firm, Snow Park’s design is themed on a snow-covered enchanted forest, and delivers experiences such as sledging, zorbing, and zip-lining across several distinct zones. Reem Mall revealed earlier this year that a 2,140m2 e-commerce logistics hub will be developed within the retail facility to make it the world’s first fully digitally enabled smart shopping centre.

A major road project will soon improve the connectivity of Mina Zayed area to its surroundings. From then on, the project should take 42 months to be completed. As part of the project, a tunnel will be built to connect the Shaikh Khalifa Highway to the Shaikh Zayed Tunnel and the Corniche Road. The tunnel will have five lanes in each direction, and will be able to accommodate 10,000 vehicles per hour per direction. Dutch development bank FMO supports the development of a utility-scale solar park (50 MW) in Jordan that will supply 42,000 households with affordable, clean energy and avoid 100,000 tonnes in annual CO2 emissions. The project, located in the Ma’an Governorate (200 km south of Amman), will be the first internationally financed utility-scale solar park in Jordan that deploys locally manufactured PV modules. FMO is acting as lead arranger for the $59.2 million senior financing package to Al Husainiyah Power Generation Company. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Municipality and Rural Affairs is expected to release the main tender of 213.7 million Saudi riyals ($57 million) Jeddah Corridor Highway by the second quarter of 2019. The detailed design work has been completed. The tender for infrastructure contract is expected to be released by second week of April 2019. The construction is expected to commence by August 2019 with the project completion scheduled for June 2021. The project’s scope of work involves construction of the 49-km East Jeddah Corridor Highway with four major grade separated interchanges. elcoming over 13,000 participants from 10 -13 March at the Jeddah Centre for Forums & Events, the 9th edition of The Big 5 Saudi marked the renaissance of Saudi Arabia’s building industry. Not only did The Big 5 Saudi feature a record number of international country pavilions this year, confirming a growing interest in KSA’s building business: it also hosted several world leading manufacturers of construction products that took part in the exhibition for the first time ever. “This was our first time at The Big 5 Saudi and it has been very positive,” said Alex O’Byrne from Colt International. “We’ve picked up some good leads so we plan to come back to the exhibition next year. In Saudi there are a lot of growth opportunities; it’s been quiet for a couple of years, but the market is back on the way up.” With the value of planned and un-awarded projects exceeding USD 1.2 trillion, the Kingdom is set to be the largest GCC construction market in the coming years. Italian Flair Adds Exciting Touch to Automechanika Dubai 2019’s Powerful European Presence
T
he powerful European presence at this year’s Automechanika Dubai exhibition will have a big boost of turbo-charged Italian flair, with a host of companies from Italy revving their engines ahead of the Middle East and Africa’s largest automotive aftermarket trade fair. More than 1,800 exhibitors from 60-plus countries will partake in the 17th edition of Automechanika Dubai in June 2019, with more than 350 of that figure hailing from Europe. Italy, known worldwide for its reputation as a producer of high-end sports cars, is also a major aftermarket player, exporting US$15.3 billion worth of auto parts and components in 2018 according to data aggregator World’s Top Exports -12 percent up on the previous year. The UAE is among the top ten markets for high quality and genuine Italian auto parts, and now major players are gearing up for more growth targeting trade buyers, distributors, and importers from throughout the wider Middle East, Africa, and Western Asia. The Italian presence at Automechanika Dubai 2019 highlights the Southern European country’s prominence, and when the threeday event opens from 10-12 June 2019 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, more than 70 Italian manufacturers

will assume their positions across 2,000sqm of exhibition space. “The Middle East and Africa is a key developing market for European auto parts and accessories, which is why the presence of manufacturers from the Old Continent at Automechanika Dubai has always been strong,” said Mahmut Gazi Bilikozen, Show Director for Automechanika Dubai. “Italy, Germany, UK, Belgium, Spain, France, and Poland will all have dedicated country pavilions at the show in 2019. There’ll also be more than 25 European exhibiting countries overall, with some of the biggest names in the business set to take part this year.” The Italian Pavilion is one of seven European country pavilions at Automechanika Dubai 2019, with others coming from Germany, UK, Belgium, Spain, France, and Poland. A total of 23 country pavilions will be on show at the annual three-day event, further underlining its global appeal. Almost half of the entire European continent is covered this year, with other exhibiting countries coming from Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Record bauma Attracts more than 620,000 Visitors
W
ith more than 620,000 visitors from over 200 countries, bauma 2019, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment, generated the best results in the exhibition’s 65-year history. The number of visitors rose by about 40,000 over the total produced during the previous event in 2016. More than 250,000 visitors came from countries outside Germany. The top 10 visitor countries after Germany were: Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Poland and Great Britain. The trade fair also experienced a strong increase in attendance from overseas visitors. Significant gains in this group were produced by China, Australia and Japan. More than 5,500 visitors came from China alone. The number of exhibitors totaled about 3,700 from 63 countries – likewise a record. With its unprecedented 614,000 square meters of space, the largest bauma ever held was once again a bauma filled with records. to the trade fair’s global visitors. Zeppelin/ Caterpillar, for instance, introduced more than 20 world premieres. Business conducted at the exhibition was correspondingly good. Many exhibitors spoke of a high willingness to invest. The record-setting bauma also had a strong impact on order books as exhibitors generated the highest sales in the history of their participation at the trade fair. Innovation platform and economic engine Thanks to the smooth operation of the exhibition and the consistently positive feedback by exhibitors, Klaus Dittrich, Chairman and CEO of Messe München, was more than satisfied with the results of bauma 2019: “For the industry, bauma is by far the world’s most important innovation platform and economic engine, something that we clearly saw this year. Particularly in these times of sweeping technological change that is being triggered by digitalization, bauma provides the industry with security and confidence. Franz-Josef Paus, Managing Director of Hermann Paus Maschinenfabrik and Chairman of the bauma Advisory Council, described the trade fair’s unique character this way: “With exhibitors from more than 60 countries and visitors from over 200 nations, bauma is an industry platform where technological variety, ingenuity and performance can be demonstrated to an immense international business audience.” Exhibitors: “The most-successful bauma of all times” For exhibitors, bauma 2019 was a complete success, as occasionally euphoric statements about it showed. Masa Managing Director Frank W. Reschke described it as “the most successful bauma of all times.” Martin Herrenknecht agreed: “Every bauma is something special. But 2019 topped everything for Herrenknecht.” Domenic G. Ruccolo, CEO of the Wirtgen Group, rated bauma 2019 as “the most successful in the history of the Wirtgen Group.” Many exhibitors of bauma’s partner country, Canada, were enthused as well. Melinda Zimmerman Smith of Serious Labs said bauma created “exciting opportunities that we didn’t even know existed.” What’s more, bauma was “simply a whole lot of fun,” she said. Megatrend digitalization The clear focal point of this year’s bauma was sustainable and digital solutions. All exhibitors agreed that digitalization is a “megatrend” in the construction machinery industry, said Andreas Klauser, the CEO of PALFINGER AG. Sensors and communication interfaces that collect and analyze data have become standard equipment. Overall, machines and vehicles are becoming cleaner, quieter and more efficient. Many now have electric and hybrid drive systems. “Customers’ interest in electric drive systems has never been so high as it was this year,” said Dr. Frank Hiller, Chairman of the Board of Management at DEUTZ AG. “It was a dominant issue at bauma 2019.” Some of the most interesting innovations were honored with the bauma Innovation Award on the evening before the trade fair opened. Political leaders: “bauma is a showcase for Germany” The visit by many high-ranking political leaders underscored bauma’s exceptional importance, a reputation that extends far beyond the industry itself. “This trade fair is a showcase for Germany,” Peter Altmaier, the German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, said at the opening of bauma. life.” Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs, State Development and Energy, Deputy Minister President, also took an extended tour of the trade fair. bauma’s partner country, Canada, was represented in part by Stéphane Dion, the Ambassador and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Jonatan Julien, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Bavarian partner province Quebec. The Chinese delegation was led by Wang Bingnan, Vice Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. “The place to be” for seven days bauma’s visitors added a strong new accent to Munich during the seven-day trade fair. There were people from all parts of the world everywhere you looked – this was the defining feature of the fairgrounds in Riem, both in the halls and on the outdoor exhibition area. Visitors massed at the trade fair’s hot spots, the impressive vehicle and machine displays set up by major exhibitors. In addition to its industrial focus, bauma was also a huge world of experience and adventure with a selfie tower and Ferris wheel. Jorge Cuartero, Managing Director of the Spanish manufacturer association Anmopyc, summed things up this way: for a full week, bauma was “the place to be.” The next bauma will be held from April 4 to 10, 2022, at the Messe München Exhibition Center.

Volvo CE Unveils Electric Compact Excavator and Wheel Loader at bauma Volvo Construction Equipment has unveiled two zero-emissions machines - the ECR25 excavator and L25 wheel loader - from its new range of electric compact machines. Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is delivering on its commitment of ‘Building Tomorrow’ with the unveiling of its first commercial zero-emissions electric compact excavator and wheel loader at bauma Munich. The machines, which are the first to be shown from a new electric range of Volvo branded compact excavators and compact wheel loaders, deliver zero exhaust emissions, significantly lower noise levels, reduced energy costs, improved efficiency and less maintenance requirements, compared to their conventional counterparts. From mid-2020, Volvo CE will begin to launch its range of electric compact excavators (EC15 to EC27) and wheel loaders (L20 to L28), stopping new diesel engine-based development of these models. ELECTRIC OPERATION To make the ECR25 and L25 electric, the combustion engines have been replaced with lithium-ion batteries. The ECR25 is fitted 26 PlantAndEquipment.com | May 2019
with lithium-ion batteries and one electric motor which powers the hydraulics in order to move the machine and the attachment. The machine’s batteries store enough electric energy to power the ECR25 for eight hours in its most common applications, such as utility work. The L25 incorporates lithium-ion batteries which allow for eight hours of operation in the machine’s regular applications, including light infrastructure work, gardening, landscaping and agriculture. The L25 also incorporates two dedicated electric motors, one for the drivetrain and one for the hydraulics. Decoupling the subsystems has led to higher efficiency in both the systems and the entire machine. Both the ECR25 and L25 have onboard chargers that enable overnight charging via a regular household plug socket. A fast charging option, requiring more powerful grid access, will also be available. “The ECR25 and L25 are revolutionary machines that demonstrate Volvo CE’s commitment to future technology,” says Scott Young, Director Electromobility and Automation. “As the machines are electric, no particulate matter, nitrogen oxide or carbon dioxide are released into the environment. This,
latest NEWS // VOLVO together with the fact that they have extremely low noise levels, makes them ideal for use in cities and densely populated areas.” FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY The launch of the ECR25 and L25 follow positive reactions to Volvo CE’s concept machines over the last few years. This includes the prototype EX2 fully electric compact excavator and the prototype LX2 electric compact wheel loader. “While the ECR25 and L25 are different machines, the learnings from these research projects have helped to build the foundations for the new range of electric compact machines,” explains Young. “The technology we have been developing is now sufficiently robust and this, together with changes in customer behavior and a heightened regulatory environment, makes now the right time to launch our electric compact machines.” Now that the first electric compact machines have been unveiled, a number of machines
will be used and tested by customer’s in pilot projects before production begins mid-2020. t bauma 2019 Manitowoc launched an impressive new unit in the fiveaxle category and two new three-axle models. Andreas Cremer, global product director for all-terrain cranes at Manitowoc, said the launch of the new models underlines the company’s increased speed of product development under The Manitowoc Way and its ongoing commitment to building cranes that offer outstanding return on investment. “We believe in developing cranes our customers can use in a wider variety of projects for better return on investment,” he said. “The GMK5250XL-1 is a great example of how we do that. It’s an update to our existing GMK5250L but we’ve added 8.5 m of boom for more reach, so it can take on more jobs. Rule of Three In the three-axle category, the GMK3060L sets new standards of excellence and includes a powerful, seven-section MEGAFORM boom with 48 m of main boom and a maximum tip height of 65 m when working with its full jib. For consistency and control, the 60 t crane features Manitowoc’s Crane Control System with boom configurator for fast and efficient set-up. With its compact carrier, the GMK3060L can squeeze into tight locations, again making it a great option for downtown job sites or congested projects. Next to the GMK3060L is the new GMK3050-2, an update of Grove’s long-running three-axle offering, the GMK3050-1. It offers a 40 m main boom, fast operating speeds and a single counterweight configuration for ease of use. It’s engine and design have also been updated to meet the latest requirements of Euromot 5 (which also covers both Tier 4 Final and Tier 3 regulations in the U.S. and the rest of the world).
The GMK4090 highlights Grove’s leadership in the design of ‘taxi cranes’ - lightweight and flexible cranes which can be optimized for both travel and lifting depending on user needs. It has a maximum capacity of 90 t, a main boom of 51 m and a maximum tip height of 75 m. The GMK4090 can travel with up to 18.3 t of counterweight or can transport up to 9.1 t as a single vehicle while configured to less than 12 t per axle. The GMK6300L-1 is the successor to the hugely-popular GMK6300L. It has a 300-t maximum capacity and a maximum tip height of 120 m when working with its 80 m boom and 37 m of jib. When working with the main boom, it can lift up to 14 t at full height and can handle this from 14 m out to a 28 m radius, making it perfect for tower crane assembly. Power comes from a 430 kW Mercedes Benz (Euromot4/EPA Tier 4 final) engine which features improved fuel economy over its predecessor. “Grove all-terrain cranes deliver powerful lifting performance, superior off-road mobility and fast highway speeds,” concluded Cremer. “They are manufactured using the industry’s most stringent lean manufacturing techniques and this delivers a class-leading line-up from 60 t to 450 t.”

Following the initial announcement of the concept, Mammoet has altered the design to further enhance its value to project execution. In the improved design, the crane’s upper structure is placed on a pedestal, enhancing the crane’s stability and lowering ground bearing pressures to less than 10 tons per square meter. The second improvement is in the assembly of the crane. The Focus utilizes a climbing frame to build itself vertically, as opposed to the initial principle of an extension ladder. This is similar to the proven concept of a tower crane. ‘Sterilizing’ larger parts of a plant area for crane assembly is no longer needed and there is no need to build over live pipe racks in a plant. All in all, the assembly process is less complex, safer and more efficient, and significantly reduces the costly downtime of assembling a crane. The new design will also include a variable superlift system, with a radius that can be adjusted under load from 16 to 30 meters. This will increase the crane’s flexibility, delivering a larger operational window, especially in congested areas. “Mammoet is excited to commence the development of the Focus as we see it as a cost saving solution for many of our customers within the power, petrochemical and civil sectors,” says Mammoet Innovations Director Jacques Stoof. “We have worked closely with these customers to listen and understand their current and future challenges. Caterpillar Signs Agreement to Sell its PurposeBuilt Forestry Business Caterpillar Inc. announced it has entered into a definitive agreement with Weiler Forestry, Inc. to sell Caterpillar’s purpose-built forestry business. The closing is expected to occur in the third quarter of 2019. This agreement follows the preliminary agreement between the two companies, which was previously announced on August 29, 2018. “We remain committed to supporting our forestry customers and the forestry industry,” said Ramin Younessi, Caterpillar Construction Industries Group President. “Caterpillar and our dealers have an established relationship with Weiler that spans many years. The process of developing this binding agreement has further enhanced our confidence in Weiler’s ability to deliver purpose-built forestry machines, while Caterpillar continues to offer forestry excavators and other core equipment, allowing the dealers to provide a complete product
portfolio and the optimal solution for forestry customers.” The sale of the purpose-built forestry business enables Caterpillar to further align its resources to deliver products that meet customer needs across a broad variety of applications. The company will continue to provide forestry excavators designed for log loading, processing and other forestry applications, in addition to supplying core Caterpillar equipment to the forestry industry. With this agreement, Weiler will acquire Caterpillar’s purpose-built forestry product line consisting of wheel skidders, track feller bunchers, wheel feller bunchers and knuckleboom loaders, and operations facilities in LaGrange, Georgia; Auburn, Alabama; and Smithfield, North Carolina.

Skyjack Reaches New Heights with New Rough Terrain Scissor Lifts

kyjack has announced the release of its largest rough terrain scissor lift to date, while an even larger model is already in the works. In February, the Guelph, Ontario-based company brought their newest rough terrain scissor lift to The ARA Show in Anaheim. The SJ9253 RT is Skyjack’s largest scissor lift with a working height of 17.98 metres and is the first model in its new full size rough terrain range. This new range replaces Skyjack’s existing SJ9233, SJ9243, SJ9253, and SJ9263 RT models. “The decision to move forward with a new larger rough terrain range is twofold – improve the specifications and performance of our existing models, while also mitigating the cost impact of the new ANSI/CSA standards,” said Corey Connolly, product manager at Skyjack. “We’ve enhanced our full-size models, but kept Skyjack’s philosophy of simple reliability in the design. Features like our AxlDrive four-wheel drive system and easily accessible service components are still standard in our new rough terrain models.” Skyjack plans larger lift Skyjack also has plans for an even larger rough terrain scissor lift that would make work at six stories possible, increasing the number of applications these machines could be used for. Also, the new rough terrain lifts feature an enhanced control system – maintaining Skyjack’s proven colour coded and numbered wiring system, while further improving the ease of troubleshooting and integration with the company’s Elevate telematics solution. “A key improvement to this range is Skyjack’s SmarTorque technology, which provides the machines with excellent torque and hydraulic performance, but with less engine horsepower,” explained Barry Greenaway, product manager at Skyjack. “This system has been used on our TH series since 2015 and the fact that it doesn’t require diesel particulate filter, diesel exhaust and no other active exhaust after treatment is extremely beneficial to rental companies.” Skyjack’s redesigned full-size rough terrain scissor lifts will be available in the third quarter of 2019.

SDLG Wheel Loader Delivers Strong ROI for Indonesian Quarry PT Gorip Nanda Guna purchased an L956F wheel loader to boost operations at its quarry in East Java, Indonesia.
O
n a 40-hectare quarry in East Java, Indonesia, an SDLG L956F wheel loader is hard at work moving large quantities of material for road contractor PT Gorip Nanda Guna. The reliable and fuel-efficient wheel loader is helping reduce operating costs at the quarry. “We have a huge quarry and our project will take at least 10 years to complete. Therefore, it is very important for us to choose the best and most efficient machines to work on site which is why we chose SDLG’s L956F wheel loader,” said Gorip, owner of PT Gorip Nanda Guna, which also owns the quarry. “The heavy-duty L956F is powerful and features a large bucket that makes moving materials easy.” At the quarry in Cukurguling, East Java, the L956F works about eight hours per day and loads between 150 to 200 tons of material hourly, with average cycle times of about two to three minutes. The 5 t-rated L956F has a 3.0 m3 bucket capacity and is the smallest of the three

F-series wheel loaders. Powered by sixcylinder Weichai engines, the L956F is one of the newest wheel loaders in SDLG’s F-series and features updated frame, chassis, transmission, cabin, engine hood and counterweight. Onsite since October 2017, PT Gorip Nanda Guna, a Surabaya-based road building contractor, purchased the wheel loader from PT Indotruck Utama, SDLG’s distribution partner in Indonesia. In addition to the L956F, PT Gorip Nanda Guna also owns a SDLG LG938L wheel loader. The 3 t LG938L features a 1.8 m3 bucket capacity and maximum breakout force of 73 kN.

HCME and ABAX Connect Mini Excavators to Global e-Service
T
he latest Zaxis-6 range of Hitachi mini excavators can now be connected to Hitachi Construction Machinery’s remote monitoring system, Global e-Service. This allows owners access to operational data on their machines, which in turn helps to increase productivity, enhance efficiency, maximise availability and reduce running costs. Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) has teamed up with European telematics company ABAX for this new development. Its market-leading software platform enables Hitachi mini excavators to communicate with Global e-Service, simplifying fleet management and maintenance for machine owners. The software is available for all current Hitachi mini and compact machinery. It can also be retrofitted to previous generation models by the authorised Hitachi European dealer network. This development perfectly epitomises the ‘Connect with Hitachi’ theme of the HCME stand (FN/718) at bauma. It not only illustrates how customers access a world of connectivity when they purchase a Hitachi machine, but

تم تصميم هذا المجتمع ذو الكثافة المنخفضة والذي تبلغ مساحته 400فدان ليجذب عشاق الصحة والمتحمسون للطبيعة ، ويشمل عروض سكنية وبيع التجزئة والضيافة والترفيه والتعليم ،مع مطور المشروع شركة جزيرة الجبيل لالستثمار (،)JIIC تم تصنيف المشروع كمنطقة استثمارية في أبو ظبي ويضم ست قرى منطقة استثمارية وهي مرفأ الجبيل ،وناد الذهبي، وسيف الجبيل ،وعين المها ،وسوق الجبيل وبدع الجبيل. سيتألف مشروع الواجهة البحرية الذي يبلغ طوله 13كيلومت اًر من مزيج من قطع األراضي المخدومة ،والممتلكات الراقية والمتوسطة المدى التي تلبي احتياجات المواطنين وسوق اإليجار ،ومن المتوقع بعد االنتهاء أن يضم سكان مقيمين يتراوح عددهم بين 5000و 6000شخص ،من المقرر االنتهاء من المشروع في الربع الرابع من عام 2022مع البدء في تسليم قطع األراضي في الربع األول من عام .2021 تشمل العناصر األخرى للمشروع مركز تاون سنتر الذي يضم شققًا وحديقة مكتبية وفيالت مكتبية وفندقًا باإلضافة إلى منافذ بيع األطعمة والمشروبات ونادي شاطئي ومركز أعمال ومركز رياضي ومدارس ومحالت سوبر ماركت ودور حضانة و نادي مجتمع وعيادات متخصصة ومؤسسات تجارية أخرى. 95
