A NOTE FROM PMT’S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Welcome Friends! It is with tremendous joy that we present Waitress — the final production of Pittsburgh Musical Theater’s “Heart and Soul” season, and the Pittsburgh regional premiere of this beloved Broadway hit. There is no better way to close this season than with a story that celebrates resilience, hope, and the courage to step into a new beginning. How fitting that we are sharing this incredible show right here in our forever home — Pittsburgh’s own off-Broadway venue, the Gargaro Theater, in the heart of the West End. Waitress is not only about transformation — it mirrors a very real transformation happening at PMT. We are about to “open up” ourselves, just as Jenna opens her heart to new possibilities. Very soon, we will be breaking down our walls, unveiling an exciting new chapter, and inviting all of Pittsburgh and the West End communities to see what’s inside. This marks the beginning of a new look, a new spirit, and an even stronger bond with the community we love so deeply. Thank you for being a part of this special moment with us. Rayna Akin^ (Ensemble) is delighted New Hazlett CSA Series, PlayMakers to be part of this production, marking her fifth professional engagement. Having dedicated over six years to her training at Pittsburgh Musical Theater Conservatory, Rayna has recently performed as Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Johanna in Sweeney Todd, Eponine in Les Misérables, and Catherine in Pippin. A current senior at Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, Rayna looks forward to continuing her studies in the fall of 2025 at Nazareth University, pursuing a B.F.A. in Musical Theater. Boudreau^ (Ensemble) is thrilled to be part of PMT’s Waitress at the Gargaro Theater. Some recent performances with PMT include Conservatory productions of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Gaston), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Sweeney Todd), and Les Misérables (Javert). Most recently: Jesus Christ Superstar (Apostle, U/S High Priest) with PMT. He is currently a junior at Pine Richland High School and has been attending classes at PMT Conservatory for the past eight years. August Carter (Ensemble, U/S Nurse debut! Laura is a Muhlenberg College Norma) is thrilled to be making their PMT debut in the female ensemble. She is also so grateful to be understudying the iconic Nurse Norma. Lauren Graduated with a BFA in Musical Theater from Penn State University in 2019 (WE ARE!), and some of her other favorite roles include Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Sandy in Grease, Doralee in 9-5, and Hope in Urinetown. Nick Ewanco^ (Ensemble) is in the Male Ensemble and is thrilled to be making his professional debut with such a talented cast. Brett Goodnack* (Dr. Pomatter) is thrilled to be joining the incredible cast of Waitress and to be making his return to the PMT stage, this time with notably less fake blood. He is a lifetime Pittsburgher (where he received his J.D. from Duquesne Law), and now resides in the South Hills. Credits include: Ash, Evil Dead: The Musical (PMT); Shakespeare, Something Rotten! (Stage 62); George Bailey, It’s A Wonderful Life (Bricolage Production Company); Black Stache, Peter and The Starcatcher (Stage 62); Victor Frankenstein, Frankenstein (Bricolage). Brett spends his days as Associate General Counsel for a state banker’s association, and his nights as a local comedic improviser, writer & performer, and Beatles enthusiast. Zanny Laird* (Jenna) is thrilled to be a part of Waitress after appearing as Annie/ Shelly in Evil Dead: The Musical and as Rizzo in Grease! For over twenty years, she has worked in TV, film, and theatre in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. Her resume includes the world premiere productions of August: Osage County (Steppenwolf Theatre) and Trust (Lookingglass Theatre), the off-Broadway production of Kragtar: A Monster Musical (The West End Theatre), and the pre-Broadway workshop of Head Over Heels (Oregon Shakespeare Festival). Other local credits include The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk and The Cherry Orchard (Quantum Theatre), Phantom (PCLO), and Hamlet (Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks). Nick Mitchell (Ensemble, U/S Joe, Cal) has been an active Director/Actor in Western Pennsylvania for almost two decades since relocating here from NYC. He was last seen on PMT’s stage as Norm Waxman in Jersey Boys. Other favorite roles have been Roy Cohn in Angels in America (Elsewhere), Dan Kaffee in A Few Good Men (Academy Theater), and originating the role of Galileo in The Next Galileo (Pittsburgh CLO). His most recent theatre credits include Newsies with Musical Theatre West in Long Beach, CA; Clue with Center Repertory Company in Walnut Creek, CA; and the newest work by veteran, OBIE-winning poet and playwright Murray Mednick, entitled Three Tables, in Los Angeles. TV and film credits include: NCIS: Hawai’i; Magnum P.I.; Banshee; Same Time, Next Christmas, with Lea Michele; and Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale. He recently voiced a role in an audio drama version of the classic tale Treasure Island, with John Goodman and Keith David, hopefully to be released later this year. Shelly We celebrate Adrienne Shelly as the writer of the 2007 film Waitress. An actor (Trust) and director (Waitress, I’ll Take You There, Sudden Manhattan) for almost 20 years, she conceived the film while pregnant with her daughter Sophie (Lulu in the film), for whom she wrote it as a “love letter” in just two weeks. Gemma has spent sixteen years in the PMT Family as the Director of Production Operations and a member of the Actor’s Equity Association for PMT’s Professional Company and PMT Conservatory Productions.
