A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

At its core, Dear Evan Hansen is a story about the profound weight of silence. We often talk about trauma as a singular, explosive event, but there is a quieter, more corrosive kind: the persistent ache of isolation.

For Evan, loneliness isn’t just a mood - it is a survival state. When a person feels invisible for long enough, the hunger to be seen becomes a desperate, driving force. We see how Evan’s lack of meaningful connection creates a vacuum, one that he tries to fill with a lie that spirals out of control.

This production explores how isolation warps our judgment and perspective. To reflect this, our design team has created a digital world that feels “slightly off,” - a visual representation of Evan’s fractured perspective. We use furniture and props sparingly, offering only glimpses and small pools of light where the story’s action takes placevignettes of people physically close but emotionally miles apart. In this landscape, Evan’s poor decisions are a frantic, clumsy attempt to pull these pieces back into alignment, bridge the gap between those lonely islands of light and ultimately find

connection with someone. He isn’t acting out of malice, but out of a starving need for the groundedness and safety that only strong, honest relationships can provide.

Working on this production, I was constantly reminded of a quote often associated with Robin Williams, “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” As you watch tonight, I invite you to look past the “viral” moments and see the person standing on the outside looking in, and in turn, look for those people in your own day to day lives. We hope this production serves as a reminder that the antidote to Evan’s trauma isn’t perfection - it’s the courage to reach out and the willingness to truly listen.

Luca Boudreau (ensemBLe) is thrilled to be a part of Pittsburgh Musical Theater’s Dear Evan Hansen. Some recent performances with PMT include Conservatory productions of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Gaston), Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Sweeney Todd), Disney’s Newsies (Davey), PMT’s professional production of Jesus Christ Superstar (Apostle). He is currently a senior at Pine-Richland High School and has been attending classes at the PMT Conservatory for the past nine years. He would like to thank the PMT staff, friends, and family for their constant support.

erin cain (Zoe) is very excited to be making her PMT debut as Zoe in one of her favorite musicals, Dear Evan Hansen. Erin recently graduated from NYU Tisch Drama in The New Studio on Broadway and has performed in many theater productions, a few of her favorite roles including, “Anne” in Anne of Green Gables, and “Martha Jefferson” in 1776, for which she won BroadwayWorld’s Best in DC. Similarly, she has performed as a featured vocalist in coveted venues, such as Carnegie Hall and is a Suzuki-trained, advanced violinist. Erin wants to thank her Mom, Dad, Molly, and all her family and friends for their endless love and support!

Jones the Musical, “Puck & Flute U/S” in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf” in Into the Woods, and “Ren McCormack” in Footloose. her feet and doing what she loves. Maya is a proud graduate of Point Park University (BFA Acting, Class of 2023). Some of her favorite past roles include Constance in Ride the Cyclone (Pittsburgh Playhouse), Kili in The Hobbit (Pittsburgh Public Theater), and Maleficent in Descendants (New Hazlett Theater). This story is a reminder of how easy it is to feel disconnected, and how important it is to reach for each other anyway. She hopes audiences leave feeling a little less alone. Maya would like to give a special thank you to her boyfriend, Anthony, for getting to experience this process together, it makes this one extra special. Liam gedris (ensemBLe) has been involved in musical theater productions for 6 years. His previous notable roles include Ensemble in Annie (Professional Production), Race in Disney’s Newsies, Tobias in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Gabey in On The Town. He is very excited to have been cast in Dear Evan Hansen and cannot wait to continue working with Pittsburgh Musical Theater this summer. Brett goodnack* (Larry) is thrilled to be returning to the PMT stage with the wonderful cast of Dear Evan Hansen. He is a lifetime Pittsburgher (where he received his J.D. from Duquesne Law), and now resides in the South Hills. Though he may still (and forevermore) be recognized at PMT as “that guy from Evil Dead The Musical” (Ash), some of his recent favorites include: Dr. Pomatter, Waitress, (PMT); Shakespeare, Something Rotten! (Stage 62); Victor Frankenstein, Frankenstein (Bricolage). Brett spends his days as Associate General Counsel for a state banker’s association, and his nights as a local comedic improviser, writer & performer, and noted “manabout-house.” A special thanks to Caitlin (the best girl in the world), my friends (including Forest, the greatest dog a guy could ask for), and my family - for their love, support, and for reminding me what really matters (...besides money.)

Bre short (cynthia) is thrilled to make her PMT debut in Dear Evan Hansen. Bre is a Pittsburgh-based performer and songwriter with over a decade of experience performing with dance and theater companies throughout Pittsburgh and New York City. Credits include the long-running immersive theater hit Sleep No More (Punchdrunk NYC) and Third Rail Projects’ Bessie Award-winning Then She Fell. She is a resident music and movement artist at The Space Upstairs in Pittsburgh and with SAXYN Dance Works (NYC), where she composes original scores for collaborations that have been presented at Triskelion Arts (Brooklyn), Baryshnikov Arts Center (NYC), RADFest (MI), and more. tayLor terry (ensemBLe, u/s: Zoe) is thrilled to be making her PMT debut in Dear Evan Hansen as a member of the ensemble and understudying Zoe! Some of her favorite roles include Little Red in Into the Woods at The Flea Theater (Off-Broadway) and Wednesday in The Addams Family. She has also performed professionally Off-Broadway in the New York premiere of Aussie Song. Taylor is a Paper Mill Rising Star Award nominee and a Montclair State Theatre Night Award winner for her portrayal of Jo in Little Women. She trains mainly at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. Outside of theater, Taylor works as a software engineer at cultural events startup Rumor and is in her final semester at Stevens Institute of Technology, where she is earning her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and her Master’s in Machine Learning. She is also founding her own startup, Showcase, a networking app for theatre. In her free time, she loves trying new restaurants and DJing as part of her duo, 5Two. scott andrew (visuaL media designer) (b. 1982, Waynesburg, PA) is a multimedia queer-oriented media designer, video, installation, animation and performance artist, educator, and curator. Scott’s works center around queer futurity, divas and gay icons, LGBTQ+ histories and mythologies, and tensions between the celebrity image and the physical body. Recent works have incorporated AI generative animation, video mapping, visual effects and media design for collaborations with Dancers, Drag Queens, and Experimental Musicians. Scott’s works have been exhibited at MoMA’s PopRally Performance Series (NYC), Ballroom Marfa (Marfa, TX), The Hammer Museum (LA), The J. Paul Getty Museum (LA), Whitechapel (London, UK), MIX (NYC), Anthology Film Archives (NYC), and The Andy Warhol Museum (Pittsburgh, PA), among others. Media Design projects include ‘Sum of Y’all’ by PearlArts, ‘Ego’ by Ramin Akhavijou, ‘Dragonfly Dawn’ by Joanna Able, and ‘Underland x Alice by Kontara Morphis in the New Hazlett CSA series, an off-broadway run of ‘The Marthaodyssey’, a 2024 NDP finalist and work by Dance Artist Jesse Factor at the Marjorie S. Dean Little Theater (NYC). ‘The Marthaodyssey’ will be enjoying an upcoming dance festival tour and was also presented at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, where Scott has designed work for a Freshworks presentation of ‘I Am A Haunted House’, ‘Suite Life’ and ‘House Party’. coLLeen doyno (producer, executive director) has been a guiding force at Pittsburgh Musical Theater since 1996, dedicating nearly three decades to advancing the organization’s artistic excellence, educational mission, and community impact. Over the course of her career, she has directed and choreographed countless productions for both PMT’s Professional Company and Conservatory, many of which have been recognized among the “Best of Pittsburgh” in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Year in Review. Notably, PMT’s 2013 Conservatory Theater Company production of Miss Saigon became the first student production ever to receive that distinction. In 2013, Colleen’s leadership and values-driven work were honored with the prestigious Woman of Integrity Award, and her lifelong commitment to mentoring young women into future leaders was further recognized when she was selected as a finalist for the ATHENA Award. At the core of Colleen’s work is a deeply held belief in the power of the arts to nurture confident, compassionate, and resilient young people. This philosophy has shaped the success of the PMT Conservatory, which continues to provide training, meaningful mentorship, and transformative opportunities for hundreds of students each year As Executive Director, Colleen has also led one of the most significant chapters in PMT’s history: the full transformation of its 112-year-old historic home in Pittsburgh’s West End. She is currently spearheading a $22 million, multi-phase renovation project designed to ensure accessibility, sustainability, and an enhanced patron experience for generations to come. The project includes a three-story, six-stop elevator; fully accessible entrances; a reimagined multistory lobby; modernized mechanical systems; and major infrastructure improvements that support both professional productions and year-round educational programming. This bold investment positions PMT not only as a cultural destination, but as a lasting anchor institution for the West End community. A fierce advocate for neighborhood revitalization, Colleen has worked closely with Pittsburgh City Council, Allegheny County leadership, Pennsylvania State officials, and the Mayor’s Office to advance cultural and economic growth in the West End, which PMT proudly calls its forever home. She firmly believes that strong arts organizations are catalysts for

Lucas FedeLe (choreographer) is an artist devoted to the vitalization of theatre. Recently for PMT: Jesus Christ Superstar (Co-Director / Choreographer), Grease! (Associate Director/Choreographer), and A Lyrical Christmas Carol (Choreographer). Earlier this year, Lucas directed and choreographed the world premiere of Agnus Teaches Acting, which he cowrote with Treasure Treasure and Zanny Laird, at the New Hazlett Theater. Other recent local credits: Urinetown (Choreographer) at the PPU Pittsburgh Playhouse and Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women (Polka Consultant) at City Theatre. Lucas is an alumnus of the Richard E. Rauh (PMT) Conservatory and Point Park University’s School of Dance, a member of AEA, SAGAFTRA, SDC, and serves as Assistant Teaching Professor at Carnegie Mellon

avery FerreLL (makeup artist & wig team) graduated from the Tom Savini Special Makeup Effects Program and is a licensed esthetician. Working in the industry for three years doing bridal makeup, photo shoots, films and theater projects. She has done many shows with PMT.

michaeL FitZmaurice (makeup artist & wig team) is a special effects artist who started with PMT four years ago on Evil Dead The Musical. Since then, not only has he done every production of Evil Dead The Musical but has also been a regular on the Hair and Makeup team for such shows as Grease, A Lyrical Christmas Carol, The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition, Sweeney Todd, Carousel, Jersey Boys, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. He was also on the SPFX team of the world premiere of Romero & Juliet for the upcoming horror film The River.

regina kettering (assistant music director) PhD: Regina is a Resident Artist at Pittsburgh Musical Theater. Past credits include Mary Poppins (Chartiers Valley SD), Shrek (West Mifflin SD), and Phantom of the Opera (Blackhawk SD). She has been Organist/Music Director at multiple Pittsburgh churches over the past 15 years. The adaptability and flexibility required for organ translate well to the dialogue between pit and stage. Classically trained by Anne Liva and Michael Popick, Regina started playing piano at 4. She performed publicly at 8, and accompanied choirs by the age of 10. In high school, she memorized the equivalent of a Master’s level recital, playing Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and more. Moving to Pittsburgh allowed her to learn the king of instruments - organ - from Craig Dobbins, Music Director of Sewickley Presbyterian Church. She performed the last public recital at Heinz Chapel, playing music composed by women from 1500-2020 on International Women’s Day. Regina is an active member of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She earned a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in protein crystallography.

kevin kocher (associate technicaL director) has set designed several shows at PMT including Sister Act, Jekyll and Hyde, We Will Rock You, and Disney’s Newsies (2019). He has also worked in various other technical positions at PMT and PMT Conservatory such as sound designs for Evil Dead The Musical (2019), Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame (2019), and A Lyrical Christmas Carol (2019). Over the past several years Kevin has led the Technical Theater & Design Program at PMT Conservatory, helping to educate students in technical theater design and application in full scale productions. Kevin attended Clarion University of PA and earned a B.S. in Education and studied theatrical design and direction.

amBer kocher (props master) hails from Pittsburgh, with her husband, Kevin and son, Brody. She is a graduate of Clarion University and is the Props Master, Set Dresser, Jack-of-all-Trades Resident Artist and theater mom at PMT. Favorite credits with PMT include Evil Dead The Musical, Disney’s Newsies, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Shrek, and more. Amber has been with the company since 2012, and is looking forward to many more seasons with PMT.

kamiLah Lay (intimacy choreographer) Wisconsin-native, Kamilah, is delighted to support this exceptional cast as the Intimacy Choreographer. Previous PMT credits include Once, Jesus Christ Superstar, Waitress, and Evil Dead The Musical. Kamilah is a proud alumna of Illinois Wesleyan University, where she earned her BFA in Music Theatre. She extends endless gratitude to Colleen, Tim, Gemma, and the entire team of dedicated professionals at PMT. christopher patrick (makeup & wig designer) has been designing shows for PMT since 2007, and it is such a joy to continue working with them. Christopher works in film television and theater in the Pittsburgh region and is a member of IATSE local 798.

tim seiB (director) is a freelance stage director who resides in the D.C. Metro area. For PMT: Waitress, Million Dollar Quartet, Once. Tim directed the national tour of Million Dollar Quartet and has worked with notable companies such as Theatre Alliance, Theatre Raleigh, Arrow Rock Lyceum Theater, Totem Pole Playhouse, 5-Star Theatricals, La Mirada Theatre, Heritage Theatre Festival, Casa Manana, The O’Neill Center, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis, Ozark Actor’s Theatre, Storm Theatre, Wings Theatre, Festival 56, The Gorilla Theater, Center Theatre Company, The Universal Theatre Festival, and Emerging Artists Theatre. tucker topeL (set designer) (he/him), originally from Janesville,WI is a current MFA Scenic Design candidate at University of Connecticut. He attended Point Park University in Pittsburgh, where he earned a BFA in Scenic Design. Tucker spent the last decade working in Pittsburgh, where he designed, built, and painted more than 100 productions. dr. Francesca tortoreLLo, d.m.a. (music director) is a music director, conductor, collaborative pianist, arranger and teacher and is currently celebrating her seventh season as Resident Music Director at Pittsburgh Musical Theater. Born in Mount Kisco, New York, Francesca began her musical studies at the age of 4. She received her undergrad and graduate degrees in piano at the Cleveland Institute of Music and then completed her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano and Coaching at The University of Minnesota. Principal teachers include Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Virginia Weckstrom and Timothy Lovelace. Francesca music directs the professional and teen Conservatory shows at PMT, and recent productions include Evil Dead The Musical, Carousel, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Waitress, and Jesus Christ Superstar. She also teaches advanced classes at the PMT Conservatory and regularly creates arrangements and mashups for her students. Francesca is an accomplished classical pianist and regularly collaborates with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and other professional musicians in the city. When not behind the keys, she enjoys crocheting elaborate garments and spending time with her husband and two sons.

andonetta chiarina trageser (andi) (production assistant) is so excited to work with such an amazing cast and crew on Pittsburgh Musical Theater’s regional premiere of Dear Evan Hansen! Andi is a 2020 Musical Theater graduate of Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 as well as PMT Conservatory Alumni. She spent 5 years as a student of the PMT Conservatory and has now returned to the PMT Family as a Resident Artist as well as a Propel Teaching Artist. Previous credits include: Disney’s Newsies (Stage Manager), Beetlejuice JR. (Stage Manager), Guys & Dolls JR. (Stage Manager), Annie (Production Assistant), Waitress (Production Assistant) and Jesus Christ Superstar (Production Assistant). Outside of the company Forrest has worked with multiple shows in the area. Wizard of Oz, Jazz Nutcracker, and Cinderella with Morgantown Dance Studio. gemma wiLLiamson* (production stage manager) is excited to bring this fresh story to the Gargaro Theater. A proud member of the PMT family for seventeen years, she currently serves as Director of Production Operations and is a member of Actors’ Equity Association for both PMT’s Professional Company and Conservatory Productions.
