As a young child, I was captivated by the “strange and unusual”, and grew up holding onto those interests and memories. At the age of the youngest members of our cast, I was introduced to the world of Beetlejuice through the work of the iconic film cast. It was funny, silly, ridiculous, larger than life, and sometimes a little scary. That is the vision that I wished to bring to life through this production. Furthermore, I wanted it to have a life of its own outside the original tale and Broadway production. It is something special; uniquely crafted by the incredible cast and our team.
I have had the privilege of seeing so many of these students grow over the years. They have entered every space with professionalism and abilities beyond their years, especially in the last three weeks. Every day our team was met with intelligent questions from our cast; whether it be related to their characters, specific moments shared with other characters, or where
they need to be and when they need to be there. They were given specific and direct scenework elements, choreography fit for the highest professionals, and music that would give anyone a challenge. These blossoming professionals never wavered in the face of those challenges. Each day we were forced to add more details because they conquered what was given to them the day prior. It was inspiring to everyone involved.
Thank you for trusting me and our team to lead these talented young artists. I am honored to have been a part of their journey.
Enjoy your trip into the strange and unusual.
“It’s showtime!”
