MATRIX THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS SHOWING: MAY 16TH - JUNE 1 In a hard-hearted world riddled by prejudice and privilege, lowly bureaucrat and outsider, Aksentii Poprishchin, is intent on climbing the greasy pole to success. Alone and sequestered in an attic, he tries to escape the hopelessness of his existence by making entries in a diary lampooning those who have made his life a misery. He acts these out to his maid and audience via a series of hilarious vignettes and imaginative flights of fancy. It slowly emerges however that the outside world is one he can’t keep up with, where people with a “difference” are not tolerated and mental illness is shunned. As he becomes increasingly alienated by his fellow workers, Poprishchin deteriorates into delusion, paranoia and finally, tragically, into insanity. DIARY OF A MADMAN is a hilarious and heart-wrenching classic about alienation, unrequited love and the descent into madness.

PROSPECT TERRACE BY ANGELA MURPHY SHOWING: 6TH-22ND OF JUNE Set in a Queenslander in Queensland, Prospect Terrace is a funny, bitter and quirky take on the dynamics of a dysfunctional family. Pepper’s once normal life is falling apart. Her fractious father Jack has taken nasty to a new level, her spoilt younger sister Bunny dishes out unwanted social-worker advice and her far-away floundering brother Rob has continued his romance with the bottle. To top it off her estranged teenage daughter Megan has publicly blanked her.

When 80-year-old Jack ends up is hospital, decisions need to be made about his future and the much-loved family home on Prospect Terrace. We watch as the family grapples with the past, as they rediscover forgotten truths, hidden treasures, and lost love.

First performed and then speedily banned in 1664, Molière’s Tartuffe is a side-splitting satirical exploration of greed, seduction, piety, and deception.

The one thing getting in her way, however, is her unfortunate tendency towards multiple personalities … and her most dangerous alter ego — voracious vixen Ann Bowman — has nothing less than world domination on her mind!

In cabaret style, Queen Bette follows her incredible life and references many of her most famous screen roles – in particular her fascination with Queen Elizabeth I (whom she played twice in two different movies).

The narrative highlights the challenges faced by individuals, particularly Chinese migrants and 23 the elderly, as they grapple with their identities and sense of place in a rapidly changing world.
