there are so many ways to be involved with music here at the church, from singing, to ringing, to playing, and more. Whether you are a true beginner or a seasoned professional, there’s a place for you in the music ministries of Pine street.
The Choir
We’re going to have a fun year of really spectacular music from a wide variety of styles. the choir practices at 7:00 on thursday evenings and sings in the 11:00 sunday services, as well as for special occasions like Christmas eve. In addition to working on repertoire, we also spend time working on our singing voices, finding all the depth and beauty god gave each one of us. there’s no audition, and you can
come try us out and see how you like it – no commitment required! our first rehearsal is september 10.
The Handbells
Would you like to make music, but feel like maybe singing in the choir isn’t for you? Come give handbells a try! (or try both!) If you can count to four, there is a place for you in our handbell choir. You may see people juggling several bells at once, and if you’re ready for that, we’ll help you learn how. But maybe you would like to start off with just one bell. We can do that too! We can even pair you up with an experienced player who can show you the ropes and help you feel comfortable. the handbells

The Instruments
Do you play an instrument? I’d love to know about your gift! No matter what your level of experience, we can find a place to use your god-given talents in the worship and praise of god. this could be anything from joining in the playing of the prelude, to playing on a hymn, to playing along with the choir, and more. Whatever it is, I’ll always make sure it’s something you’re comfortable and happy doing. Lord,
I looked in the mirror today and saw my age. It startled me. The face I saw is not the face I hold in my mind or feel in my heart. I've always assumed I had so much time. Now I'm not so sure. The number of my years is in Your hands, but I intensely feel their speed.
I want to retain the vigor of my youth. (Fewer wrinkles would be wonderful too.) Enable me to be the best I can be, but not try to be someone or some age I am not. Establish in me the knowledge that what I see in the mirror is influenced by how I live and who I am inside. Remind me that even age is softened by beauty of heart and soul. Show me the best way to take care of my body, for it is Your temple, but work in me so I care more about my character than how I look.
Kerygma: the Bible in Depth
Kerygma is an exciting course of study for adults who are ready to reflect deeply on the scriptures, faith, and life. Classes will be taught by Pastor sullivan and begin on Monday, September 14, at 10:00am, at a home (still to be determined) and at the church at 6:00pm. It requires no previous Bible knowledge. the cost of the resource book is $25.

We are midway through the year, which is an appropriate time to give you an update on the finances of the church. as of June 30, the general fund of the church is running a deficit of about $3,400. Historically, this is a fairly good situation to be in in June. our pledged giving is behind by about $17,000, which is also typical for this time of year. on the expense side, we are doing quite well, though there will be some significant administrative

there have been three separate floods in memorial Hallway from the overflowing drain in the alcove behind the door to the window well. over a year ago we had the drain line scoped and reamed to maintain a flow of water to the city sewer. We were told that the drain line had collapsed and we were basically pushing the water through the dirt. the first flood this time was after one of the worst storms we have had in a while. the second flood occurred after a small rain and this made us take action. We had the drain line scoped and again they ran into mud after only going six feet into the drain line. We had the line reamed again and there is a 20 gallon per minute flow established. We are meeting with engineers to see if we can come up with a permanent repair. the vinyl baseboard had to be removed from the hall and will not be replaced until the flooding stops and the carpet is dried out.
Brad has an idea for relocating the drain line for the several downspouts into the catacombs and then sending it out of the church. We are in contact with the City of Harrisburg because we will have to connect the new drain line to the sewer.
the mini-splits and baseboard hot water heating units have been installed in the exterior rooms of the main level of the Boyd Building. We replaced an old system and now have energy efficient heating and cooling in those rooms.

I encourage all of you to keep your pledges up to date. While you may be away during the summer months, the church is always here and its financial obligations do not take a vacation! If everyone was current on their pledge, we would not be in a deficit situation, and if we continue to keep expenses under control,
we could end the year at a breakeven point.
the budget process for 2016 is about to begin, and the stewardship campaign will follow. Please keep Pine street in your thoughts and prayers as we begin to study our financial situation and its impact on the programs of the church for the coming year. as always, thank you for your generosity to Pine street.
