Let us read and mark in Holy Scripture the tale of the loving purposes of God from the first days of our disobedienceuntothegloriousRedemptionbroughtusbythisHolyChild;andletusmakethisSanctuaryglad withourcarolsofpraise.
Butfirstletusprayfortheneedsofthewholeworld;forpeaceandgoodwilloveralltheearth;forunitywithin the Church Christ came to build, and especially in the dominions of our country, within this state of Pennsylvania,andinthegreatcityofHarrisburg.
AndbecausethisofallthingswouldrejoiceGod’sheart,letusatthistimerememberthepoorandhelpless,the cold,thehungry,theoppressed;thesickinbodyandinmindandthemthatmourn;thelonelyandtheunloved; theagedandthelittlechildren;allwhoknownottheLordJesus,orwholovehimnot,orwhobysinhavegrieved hisheartoflove.
LastlyletusrememberbeforeGodallthosewhorejoicewithus,butuponanothershoreandinagreaterlight, thatmultitudewhichnoonecannumber,whosehopewasintheWordmadeflesh,andwithwhom,inthisLord Jesus,weforevermoreareone.
Theseprayersandpraisesletushumblyofferuptothethroneofheaven,inthewordswhichChristhimselfhath taughtus:
Our Father, who artin heaven, hallowedbe thyname. Thy kingdom come, thywillbe done, on earth asitis in heaven. Give usthisdayourdaily bread; and forgive usourdebts,as weforgiveourdebtors; and lead usnot into temptation, butdeliverus from evil.
