Lord, we want you to come into this world with displays of overt power, but you will not perform according to our wants and whims. Instead, you come like the sound of sheer silence. Instead, you are born among us as an infant. Instead, you show us how love is made perfect in weakness. Amen.

One: In God’s house, we can be honest about our joy and about our weariness. We can be honest when we are hopeful and when we are not. Today, we light the candle of hope.

Many: With God’s help, may we bring hope to a weary world.

Gracious God, we are weary. Forgive us for pushing ourselves too hard. Remind us that you call us to Sabbath rest. Forgive us for creating so many distractions. Remind us that we can hear you in the quiet. Forgive us for being impatient with ourselves. Remind us that healing takes time and that joy and grief can coexist. Forgive us, Lord, and make us whole.
