Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name and what our hearts can no longer bear. Set us free from a past we cannot change and guide us to a future in which we are changed. Grant us grace to grow more and more in the likeness of your son, Jesus Christ, the light of the world. GUEST PASTOR REV. J. PAUL BURKHART II

A graduate of Dickinson College, Paul received his Master of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a PhD in Speech from the Pennsylvania State University.

Ordained by the Presbytery of New Brunswick in 1960, he served four years as Director of Youth Work and Leadership Education for the Pennsylvania Council of Churches, two years as Assistant Pastor of Paxton Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, PA, and the following thirty years as Professor of Speech, with eight of those years as Chair of the Department of Speech and Theatre Arts, at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. At Chautauqua, New York, he serves on the Board of the Presbyterian Association.

An active Rotarian, Paul is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Carlisle and a Past District Governor of Rotary District 7390. A singer since high school days, Paul is currently a baritone in the Susquehanna Chorale and has served on the Chorale Board. Retired since 1996, Paul is widowed and lives in Carlisle, PA. He has four children, fourteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

On the first Sunday of Advent, we will gather for a delicious breakfast prepared by our favorite chefs, Suzanne and Michael Hogarth. There will be no Church School classes that morning. Children join their families for breakfast and an Intergenerational Advent program.

Email the church office at office@pinestreet.org or sign up at the Welcome Center so we can better estimate attendance. An offering will be received to cover the cost of the meal.
