Lord, we confess that we do not live as those worthy to be entrusted with the good news of your grace. We relate to others callously as though we do not the gospel ourselves. We seek to please and manipulate, using flattery to gain praise and distinction. Our motives are mixed and impure. Lord, reassure and cleanse us, in Jesus’ name. We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving himself for the life of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. Amen.

Donated books can be placed in Pine Street's Giving Barrel through Sunday August, 28. If you are interested in helping prepare part of the meal, please come to the meeting in Fellowship Hall directly following today's worship service or contact Stevi Sharp or the church office by next Sunday, August 21.
