MEETING OF THE CONGREGATION, JUNE 6, 2021

The Session of Pine Street Presbyterian Church has called a congregational meeting, following the worship service this morning, to act upon the request of the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Russell C. Sullivan, Jr., to the Presbytery of Carlisle that the pastoral relationship between Pine Street and the pastor be dissolved upon the occasion of his retirement effective July 1, 2021. The terms of dissolution of the call will be presented at that meeting.

June 9: The Pilgrimage: Hiking the Camino de Santiago

Presenter: The Rev. Doug Brouwer

A year after his retirement, Doug walked the Camino across northern Spain, a 500mile pilgrimage dating back to the ninth century. Doug will tell about his experience (with slides) and explore the meaning of pilgrimage today, the inner and the outer journeys.

June 16: The Art of the Memoir (or Why You Shouldn’t Write a Memoir)

One of the most popular literary forms today has its roots in Christian faith. St. Augustine wrote a memoir—The Confessions—which continues to be the model on which memoirs are written. Doug will explore the history of the memoir, sample a few of the best, and offer encouragement to anyone who wants to write a personal story.

Rev. Douglas J. Brouwer was ordained to the ministry of word and sacrament at Pine Street in September 1980 and was an associate pastor for five years. He then served churches in Illinois, Michigan, and Florida, and retired in 2018 from the International Protestant Church in Zürich, Switzerland. A memoir about his 40 years of ministry, Chasing After Wind: A Pastor’s Life, will be published later this year.
