Holy God, we confess that we think that expansive life is about power. We think that expansive life is about material wealth. We think that expansive life is about control. Teach us a new way. Please teach us to live as you live and to love as you love, and forgive us when we don’t.

Putting Away the Alleluia

One: We heard an angel speak to Mary, and we sang Alleluia.

Many: We saw Jesus heal a leper, and his gasp was Alleluia.

One: We have seen grace. We have seen good. We have shouted Alleluia!

Many: But Alleluia cannot always be our song.

One: We see Jesus betrayed and broken, and we hear no Alleluia.

Many: We see ourselves betrayed and broken, and we have no Alleluia.

One: We know suffering. We see sadness. We shout out in silence.

Many: Alleluia cannot always be our song.

One: In Lent, we journey towards the cross, and we leave behind our Alleluia.

Many: Today, we put away our Alleluia, and silence fills its place. (Silence)

One: Silence will not always be our song.

Many: On Easter, we will once again claim our Alleluia!

One: We will hear that the tomb is empty, and we will shout Alleluia!

Many: We will see our risen Lord, and he will look like Alleluia.

Pine Street Presbyterian Church will follow CDC guidelines to ease masking requirements and allow in-person gatherings, including food. While Dauphin and Cumberland Counties are in the low or medium community levels (according to the CDC’s “COVID-19 by County” pagefound at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/covid-bycounty.html), masks will be optional for all Pine Street events, including worship. Session and staff will monitor the community levels and change health and safety guidelines if the local counties are high. Worshipers are welcome to wear masks if that helps them feel comfortable in worship.
