God of shining splendor, your voice makes the earth tremble in wonder. Overshadow us with your Spirit so that we may hear your Word and live as faithful disciples and covenant people, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

One: We are salt for the earth.
Many: We are a light for the world.
One: Just as no one hides a lamp away,
Many: we will offer the world what only we can give.
One: In shining our lights, we will remember:
Many: We are not the only ones with vital wisdom.
One: In worship, community, and common life, God calls us to mutual enlightenment.
Many: So let us listen, share, and join in the light of God’s revelation. Let us worship God!
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Patient God, it is easy for us to miss the point. We think we know how to perform righteousness, but still, we care more about how we are seen than our faithfulness to you. We show off our piousness, instead of sharing what we have with those in the most need. Have mercy on us for the ways we serve ourselves, and teach us your way that leads to justice and peace.
† ASSURANCE OF PARDON
One: Hear the good news: when we cry for help, God grants it freely, longing for a closer walk with us.
Many: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Alleluia!

In life and in death, we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed, and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent

and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
